I think Von saving Wyatt he believed he is going to make the world a better place and save his family, first and foremost. I also believe he wanted to live in a better world himself, but he wasn't actually thinking about himself, he willingly refused of his own personal happiness time and time again due to save his loving ones, he Lost the Liebe of his life, he risked his life plenty of times and ended up "dying", because he was too selfless...
