the make up of the vampires changes all the time, i think he looks better pale, it makes his other features stand out more

Put David in black leather, give him an edge and he couldn't not look better. I think he looked paler but it could also be the costumes and the way they shot him - cooler and darker as opposed to the warm tones when he was with Buffy.
