I actually have two copies of this movie, both in separate Balto Double Features. But I rarely watch it simply because I Liebe the original the most because everything about it is physically better. BUT after watching wolf Quest again for the first time in quite a while, I will say this is one of the best Direct-To-Store sequels I've ever watched right up there with The Lion King: Simba's Pride.
What I like the most is the message it wants to convey which is actually very unique for a straight-to-store movie that one would assume is aimed completely at young children. It's a story about Balto and Jenna's young hybrid daughter Aleu who learns about her wolf heritage and is not exactly happy about it because it's the reason why nobody will adopt her because she physically looks like a wolf, Mehr than her father. So she runs away to figure out on her own who she is and that's the message. It's a journey to find oneself, a message that is rarely picked on and the writers actually do a pretty good job with it.
Of course there are flaws in the movie, most of them nitpicks for me. The Animation certainly has dropped because in 2002, they no longer did cell animation. The supporting characters from the original movie have also been limited due to this being Balto and Aleu's story but when they're there, they're not wasted as useless characters. Finally it takes a little time getting used to Aleu as a character but as the story progresses into her journey, you're able to follow her along and understand where her character's going.
Overall, this is a good sequel. It has it's ups and downs but in the long run, I'd say it's up there with the original but a little less. Balto 2: wolf Quest gets a 7.5 out of 10.
