Humphrey woke up. It was a fresh morning. Him and Kate were sleeping nose to nose, like they aways did. He yawned. One of Kate's eyes opened. "You're up early." she said.
"Well, I promised to go logboarding with Shakey and Mooch."
"But it's our honeymoon! And what about Saltey?"
"Saltey's... busy. And Du can come too." He laughed. "Do Du think i'd leave Du alone for Mehr than a Sekunde after our wedding night?"
Kate smiled at him. "No. Of course not. But I was hoping for a quiet day. With you."
"It's okay. We'll only do one hill." He smiled back at her. "You don't have to hunt for a few weeks. Garth has a new rationing system worked out. And we have loads of alphas ready anyway."
"Are Du sure, humphrey? The pile's getting quite small. And we haven't seen any carabou down there for ages."
"Stop worrying, Kate! Du need to losen up!" He nudged her.
"You're right." she said. Humphrey took her paw.
"So," he said. "You wanna go now oder turn up late?"
Kate laughed. "I think we'll turn up late. Breakfast is important."
"Well, i'll be up here. Bring some for me." Kate set off. "I Liebe you!" Humphrey yelled after her. "I Liebe Du too." she smiled.


"ROM, have Du got everything?"
"Yep."
"Food?"
"Yep."
"Drink?"
"Yep."
"MotorGun?"
"Yep."
"Dandy?"
"Yep."
"And my electronic equipment?"
"Yes! Can we go?"
"Good. And if this doesn't work out and Du end up in a cage, Du owe me 20 quid when I bust Du out."
The idea of hiding in a national park for the rest of his life seemed stupid, but chris had nowhere else to go. They arrived on the boarder of the park in Chris's van. Chris got out and smelled the fresh air. Then he noticed somthing. This cliff, where his transporter, van would probably stay until someone towed it away, was where his brother had died. The animal that had jumped out onto the road was from this park. There was a barbed wire fence to get over. Easy. Chris jumped onto the transporter, van and then over the fence. He was carying a backpack that contained his MotorGun and the note, as well as all of his tools, equipment and parts that he'd found at the dump. As he walked closer to the herz of the park, it began to rain. The Tag had started out fresh, but gone downhill from there for chris. Then, suddenly, there was an explosion in the distance. A tropical storm. Great. Chris put down his rucksack and rested on a rock.

So much had happened in the last few days. Chris felt cold, lonely and unable to trust anyone. ROMbot had gone back to the transporter, van at the first sign of rain, saying he'd find Chris as soon as it stopped. But it showed no sign of stopping. Quite the opposite. The thunder was very near, according to Chris's calculations. But chris didn't want to seek shelter. He might find somthing horrible that would tear his eyes out and stick them down his throat so that he could see them tear his carcass open.

The lightning bolt should have killed him, but it didn't. As he saw it surge towards him, he muttered one single, umprintable word, which turned into a scream as the energy surged through his body. He fell over. Everything went a blinding white.

It wasn't the end of Chris, but it certainly was the end of Chris Dent.


Humphrey was Lying in Kate's arms in the family den. It had been a tiring day, and he was stressed from all the logboarding, so when he heard the scream, he was probably bound to yelp like a frightened animal. Suddenly, he was hiding behind a very confused Kate. "What was that?!"
"I.. I don't know. I've never heard anything like that. It sounds horrible."
