Just wondering if people agree with this concept from Sex and the City. I think it's true. There are many characters that this works for on TV.

I think it counts, for instance thinking of my OTP, Gormes, Alex Eames was in Liebe with her husband Joe Dutton who died a couple of years before the series began and then in the series although they never actually sealed the deal on screen, she had Bobby.
