Chapter 6 
Chapter VI  
PERCY 

When I was looking for Annabeth I walked past the Field of Mars and you would not believe what I saw. 
I saw Connor spying on Reyna. 
I had forgotten he like her. 
I snuck up behind him. 
"What'cha looking at?" I said really loudly. 
He jumped. 
"Um....looking for Travis." he said. 
"Look here he comes!" I said and pointed to where Travis was walking up with an arm around Katie. 
"Hey Connor, hey Percy." said Travis 
"Hey Travis," I said "Hey Katie." 
She waved hello. 
"What are you looking at Connor?" asked Travis "Um....nothing" lied Connor
"Uh huh." like me, he didn't believe him. 
He looked through the bushes by where Connor was spying Reyna. 
"Oh." said Travis with a sly smile when he saw Reyna. "Dude why don't you just asks her out?" I asked him. 
"Who?" asked Katie. 
"Connor has a crush on Reyna." said Travis. 
"Dude!" exclaimed Connor "Not cool!"  
"Percy is right," said Katie "just ask her out. She'll say yes."  
"How do you know?" asked Connor suspiciously. 
"Because I'm a girl, and if I was her I'd say yes."  
"Maybe," Connor finally said "I'll think about it"  
"Okay, see you later guys, I gotta go find Annabeth." I replied. 
 Annabeth was still mad  after this morning when I called her jealous, so I had to think. 
Okay, Percy, I thought How can you make Annabeth not mad at you anymore, and hook Connor up with Reyna? 
Then, I got an idea so genius, you would've thought Athena herself came up with it.  

Two hours later, my plan was going into play. 
And what is my genius plan? 
Easy: 
A double date.  
So simple, so easy, so genius that no one would even suspect that it was a plan.  
I was feeling pretty good about myself when all of the sudden my dreams came crashing down. 
"No." said Connor 
"Please?!?" I asked him "I need a way to make things between Annabeth and me cool again, and if we went on a single date there would be too many awkward silences! Please Connor?" 
He sat there for a while, thinking things over 
"Fine," he said "But only this once!!!" 
"Thanks man! Now you go ask Reyna and I'll go ask Annabeth" 
He glared at me for a second and then said "I'm gonna get you for this Percy!" 
But I wasn't scared. 
I could get protection from his brother. They always do their pranks together. 
They tried doing them apart once, to prank each other and...well, lets just say it didn't work out very well. 


On my was to look for Annabeth, I ran into that one new kid...What's his name? Oh yeah, Leo. 
"Hey Leo!" I called out. 
He turned to look at me "Oh! Hey, Percy! What's up?" 
We started walking towards each other. 
"Looking for Annabeth. Have you seen her?" 
"Nope, but Jason or Piper might have, if you want to ask them." he said 
"Okay. Do you know where they are?"  
"Yeah, they're aboard the Argo ll." 
"Okay, thanks!" 
"No problem" he said "Oh, forgot to mention, be careful when you're looking for Piper and Jason, you might walk in on one of their make out parties." 
I laughed. 
"Thanks for the warning!" 
"No problem, and don't forget, Piper's a charm speaker. She can make you do some crazy stuff. Trust me, I speak from experience!" 
I laughed again. 
"I know where your coming from, I had a few bad experiences with Drew. Lets just say shes lucky Annabeth didn't kill her." 
Leo laughed at that image and I did too. 
Annabeth fighting Drew was one of the highlights of last summer, after the war was over. 
"Well see ya!" I said 
"Yeah, see you later!"  


When I got to the Argo ll, I set out to find Jason and Piper. 
It wasn't very hard, I heard them in the middle of a screaming match. 
"I TOLD YOU THERE IS NOTHING GOING ON BETWEEN ME AND REYNA!" said Jason 
"THEN PROVE IT!" yelled Piper. 
I walked into the room just in time to see Jason go in for a kiss. 
I let them hold it for a second then cleared my throat. 
They looked at me, embarrassed. 
"That may be the most entertaining thing I've seen all day!" I said with a bit of smugness in my voice. "It's like you guys are a soap opera or something." I said while trying not to laugh. 
Piper started to glare at me. 
Finally I couldn't help it. 
I started laughing. 
Piper stared at me for a second then said "I wouldn't be laughing Percy, I'm a charm speaker." she said it kinda proud like. 
"You know, I've gotten really good at resisting charm speak." I said 
"Oh, really?" asked Jason with a bit of wonder in his voice. They shared a glance and I quickly focused on the wall behind them. 
I discovered that if you don't pay attention to what the charm speaker is saying then you can resist it. 
"Percy, punch yourself in the stomach." 
At least, that's what I think she said. 
I'm really good at tuning people out after my first year at Goode. 
I looked at Jason's face, he looked impressed. 
Piper looked flustered. 
I think she really layered on the charm speak for that one. "Before this gets out of hand, do you guys know where Annabeth is?" I asked 
"I think she went down to New Rome to look at the architecture." said Jason 
"Thanks." I said 
"Anytime." he said and waved good bye. 
"See you guys later." I said, then I saw the glare Piper was giving Jason.
Or maybe I'll just see Piper!, I thought as I walked away.  

When I got to New Rome, I started to look for Annabeth. 
I found her by the forum. 
I walked up behind her and put my arms around her and turned her around then trapped her in a hug. I smiled. 
"Hi!" I said 
"Hello." she said. 
I frowned, then I smiled again. 
She probably was thinking I was bi-polar. 
"So, I have an idea. Why don't you and I go on a double date tonight?" I asked 
"With who?" she said. 
I could hear the curiosity in her voice. 
"Connor." I said vaguely. 
"And?" she pressed. 
"Well, it depends who he asks." I said 
"Who do you think he will ask?" she said 
"Probably Reyna" I said. 
For some reason I thought she would get mad, but she didn't. 
She actually seemed kind of excited that Reyna was coming. 
Weird. 
"Okay!" she exclaimed "Where we're you planning on going?" she asked 
"I was thinking the beach. There's this nice little ice cream shop right there and then we could watch the sunset." "Sounds good," she said "Did you tell Connor that?" "Uh....no I don't believe I did. Is that a bad thing?" I wondered out loud. 
"Maybe." said Annabeth. 
"Alrighty then!" I said as I took her hand. 
"Should we go find Connor and tell him or walk around New Rome?" I asked. 
She weighed the possibilities in her head. 
"I like the New Rome idea better." she said. 
"Me too." I said and we walked off.  


A couple hours later, I went to go talk to Connor to see if he asked Reyna. 
"Yep." he said. 
"Really?" I asked, I didn't think the kid had it in him 
"Yep" 
"Okay good," I said "Then I need to talk to her." 
"Okay, have fun with that." he said then he walked off. 
I asked a few people then headed off the praetor houses to see Reyna.  
I knocked on her door. 
I heard her ask who it was and I said it was Percy. 
She opened the door and yanked me inside. 
"Whoa!" I said 
"Sorry, I don't usually let people in." she said 
"It's cool, it's cool." I said "So about tonight," I started 
"Who is going to watch the camp while we're gone?" she asked me. 
"I was thinking we could ask Jason to. The people already know him and he's a good fighter, I figured he would be our best bet." I said 
"Good idea, did you talk to him about it yet?" 
"That's why I came to see you, I didn't want to go ask him by myself so I thought, maybe, you could come with me?" I asked 
"Sure, do you want to go now?" she asked 
"Sure, why not?" 
We left the praetor house and started walking to the Argo ll. When we got there I yelled loudly "JASON!!! WE NEED TO TALK TO YOU!!!" 
I figured if the guy was making out with Piper, he would appreciate the warning. 
He came out from what I assumed was the kitchen with a sandwich in hand, "What's up?" he asked. 
"We need you to watch the camp tonight." said Reyna. 
I felt like we were asking him to babysit or something. 
"Why?" he asked suspiciously. 
"We're going into town." was all I said. 
He looked like he wanted to ask more questions but didn't. "Okay," he said "Is that all?" 
"Yes." said Reyna 
"Well, actually" I said kind of slowly, "We need to discuss this praetor deal-" 
"We can discuss it later," said Jason "Let's just figure out this quest first okay?" 
"Sounds good, thanks." 
"Oh and Percy?" 
I turned around. 
"Yeah?" 
Thanks," he said "For protecting my camp while I was gone..." 
"No problem, thanks for protecting mine." I said 
"It wasn't that hard, Camp Half-blood can take care of its self. They're good warriors, all of them. Besides its not like they had any major battles while you were gone, not like here." he said. 
I nodded. 
"Still, thanks, for being there for them." I said. 
He nodded. 
"Your a good guy Jason, I want us to be friends" I stuck out my hand. 
"Yeah same for you." he shook my hand and Reyna and I left while Jason went back to his sandwich.

Had to do corrections on new message because I ran out of room.
2 hours ago
Around 8:30 that night, after evening mess, we left camp in the hands of Jason and went off into the big bad world. 
We all had our weapons on us just in case. 
As we left the city boarder and went pass Terminus, we watched the valley disappear. 
"Well alright, you guys ready to have some fun?" I asked, Reyna smiled Connor whooped and Annabeth just laughed. 
I took her hand and lead them to this ice cream shop I saw when I was going on the quest with Hazel and Frank. 
I asked them about it later and neither of them knew so I decided to find out. 
We walked inside and immediately I was attacked by the smell of candy and sugar. 
We went up to order and decided to get what they called "The Tub". 
Its a sink full of tons of ice cream and toppings. 
We ordered one of those and went to go sit down. 
"So..." I said "How have things been at Camp Half-Blood?" "Pretty good," said Annabeth, "We have more campers then we know what to do with and were running out of space to put them all. The Athena cabin has been working on designing a new wing of cabins and rooms to put them all." "Another one?" I asked incredulously 
"Mhmm. The flow of campers coming in has slowed down a little bit though, so hopefully we will have enough to build it before we have a problem." she finished 
"Wow." I said "That's insane! I can't believe I've been gone long enough for that to happen." 
I started to feel sad inside but I didn't show it. 
"How is my mom?" I asked 
"Shes really good. She is almost done with her novel and hopes to send it out to a publisher by the end of the month." said Annabeth 
"How is Chiron?" I asked
"Chiron?" asked Reyna 
"He's our trainer at Camp Half-Blood." explained Connor. "Oh." she said 
"He is also a centaur." I said. 
I saw her tense. 
"Not all centaurs are bad," I said "Especially the Party Ponies." 
"He's been pretty good. He's been worried about you, we all have. Even Mr. D even though he won't admit it." 
I felt bad, I didn't think about how worried everyone would be. 
"Who's Mr. D?" asked Reyna 
"Dionysus. He's the camp director." I said 
"You have a god as a camp director?" she asked incredulously 
"Yep," I said popping the "p". 
I couldn't believe I was about to ask my girlfriend this, but I had to know, "And....how is....Rachel?" I asked Annabeth. She actually didn't get a sour expression or a sour tone. "She's awesome. She is getting used to the whole oracle thing while at prep school and showed up at camp about a month ago." 
"Who's Rachel?" asked Reyna 
"Our oracle." 
She didn't seem to believe us. 
"No, really who is she?" 
"Our oracle," I said again "Why didn't she come?" I asked "Chiron didn't want her to spout a prophecy in front of the Romans. He thought it would just creep them out. Jason agreed he thought the Romans might attack her. Rachel didn't take the news of being left behind very well." Connor said 
I thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye. 
I nudged Annabeth and turned slowly to look and see what was there. 
What I saw, absolutely terrified me. 
It was Kelly the empousa. 
"Hey Annabeth?" I whispered 
"Yeah?" she whispered back 
"Didn't I just barely kill her last summer?" 
"I think so." 
"Great, thanks." 
I nudged Connor and Reyna under the table and gestured towards Kelly. 
"Oh great" I heard Connor grumble. 
"o 
"Okay, let's split up and take her from all sides. There's no way she can take on all four of us." said Annabeth 
"Yeah, but she and three others can." I said. 
Just as I said this, 3 other empousa walked in and sat with Kelly. 
"Percy!" Annabeth said accusingly, then punched my arm. "What?!" 
"You have the worst luck ever!" 
"You think I don't know that?!" 
"Okay guys, let's stay calm." said Reyna "Let's just all take one okay?" 
"I'll take Kelly." I said 
"I'll take the one on Kelly's left." said Annabeth 
"I'll take the one on Kelly's right" said Conner 
"I guess that means I'll take the last one." said Reyna 
"Good luck guys!" I whispered, then left the booth where we were sitting and headed towards Kelly. 
She heard me coming and stood up to meet me. 


"Well," she said "I haven't seen you in a while." 
"Same here." I said as I put my hand on Riptide. 
I didn't pull it out yet. 
"How have you been?" she asked with fake interest. 
"I'm still alive. I consider that to be a good sign." I said "How've you been?" I asked. 
We started to circle each other. 
"Same." she said "Come now Percy, we both know we're just toying with each other. Let's just get this over with." she said "I couldn't agree more" I said as I pulled out Riptide and the second I pulled it out, I made a slash towards Kelly. 
All I managed was a cut on the arm. 
She hissed. 
"You've gotten faster." she said through clenched teeth "Either that, or you've gotten slower," I said as I made another attack. 
I heard the others fighting behind me. 
I slashed at her while avoiding her hits. 
The fighting behind me stopped, so I figured the others had killed their empousa. 
This just made Kelly mad. 
She attacked with renewed force and so did I. 
I don't know how long we fought but I let my instincts take over and the next thing I knew, Kelly was gone and I was scratched up and bruised. 
I turned around and the others were fine. 
Annabeth and Connor looked confused. 
"What happened to your Achilles curse?" asked Connor 
"I lost it when I crossed the Little Tiber into camp, it's a Greek blessing so it couldn't last on Roman soil." I explained Annabeth punched me, again. 
"Ow!" I said. 
She had hit me right on a cut. 
Connor pulled some nectar out of his jacket and poured it on my cuts. 
"What was that for?" I asked 
"For not telling me you lost your curse!" said Annabeth 
"Well we haven't had much time to talk." I said 
"Maybe we should fix that!" she said as she took my hand. 
I stared into her eyes for a second, and then said "Come one, let's go back before someone else from our past attacks us." 
And with that we left the ice cream parlor and headed back to camp.
