He stands a chair on the tabelle and searches for loose ceiling panels.
He gets on all fours and searches for loose floorboards.

Isn't it like Du look in the mirror, see what Du saw, take the saw, cut the tabelle in half, two halves make a whole, so Du take the hole stick it on the Wand and crawl through?

If that's the case, then the chairs really have no point.

3 thirds make a whole as well XD. Does it really matter what gets broken in half? Sure the chair would make a smaller hole, but as long as your not too heavy XD
