The Titel references Ben's line in the season three finale. He says to Jack, "Making that call is the beginning of the end."
This is the first season premiere that was not Jack-centric. It's also the first season premiere that didn't open with a shot of someone's eye.

The opening shot of the car crashing into the piled Obst is a humorous reference to season 1. The Obst is guave - the only Essen available to the Losties in their early days on the island. In season 1, Hurley -- out in the jungle for a 'bathroom...
