OK i have an unanswerd question and i bet no one can help

Season 3 episode 1 when they first put Kate in the Cage they say to her "scratched you up pretty Bad" and she looks rough and has cuts on her wrists what were they refeering to

tom was talking about the hand cuffs ben made her wear when they fed her breakfast, he made her put them on tightly so they dug into her wrists
