As I've said before somewhere else, he's Dumbledore's AND Voldemort's right hand man. And being so for two great wizards, you learn a lot from them. and, they would "choose" only a very skilled wizard for that "position".

This one was slightly tough, since Severus is highly skilled, calm and controlled, and Bellatrix is highly skilled and insane as a bat out of hell(which I ♥ her for). But I would have to say that Severus' logical planning would triumph.
