Damon & Elena Article: Sire bond...or not?

Oh boy...THIS episode had me reeling for hours afterward. My thoughts were basically any other DE fan's that were heartbroken. Honestly I felt for Elena this episode...Stefan and Caroline were REALLY annoying me! It felt to me like they treated her vampirism and her feelings for Damon like it's a disease! Also not only did Caroline not give her the time of day, but Stefan acted in a way that was COMPLETELY uncalled for & put Elena in danger because it seems like they both cannot accept that Damon and Elena's feelings for each other could be real.

The original thoughts in my mind were a lot Mehr vicious than that, but once I calmed down and thought logically, I realized that Stefan and Caroline have a pretty superficial view on Damon and Elena's relationship. They don't get to see what we viewers see of them most of the time. Sure, they saw in Zurück seasons that Damon would do anything for Elena, and that Elena was attracted to him. But unfortunately for them, they don't have the proof to chalk it up to be anything Mehr than that. That's why this new vampire Elena is so foreign to them, because the new Elena is willing to travel down riskier paths and glimpses of the 'old Elena' can be seen in that she has fun with Damon, when not too many seasons Vor everyone was used to Elena despising him and merely tolerating him. What Elena sagte to Stefan in this episode is spot on...

"The Elena you're familiar with died on that bridge, this is who I am now"

Just because Elena listens to Damon, and does certain things he recommends her to do, DOES NOT mean she's sired to him. Elena has slowly realized that Damon's input is important, and that in certain situations Damon can be very insightful too. If Elena were sired to Damon, what would that mean for the obvious feelings she harbored for him before she turned? Stefan and Caroline never got to witness these two enough before this season to know about it. They didn't see their make out in 3x19 when Elena couldn't hold it down anymore, oder feel the tension in 3x06 when Damon's hand felt up Elena's backside and it left her almost breathless. In addition, if Elena were truly sired to Damon, wouldn't she respond to his every beck and call like Klaus' hybrids? Some Fans could argue that perhaps it's a different kind of siring, and a hybrid siring is totally different. The point is though...that all of that is practically IRRELEVANT due to Elena having these feelings BEFORE she became a vampire! Also, if Damon just purely wanted to sire Elena, he could have done it a LONG time ago. He's had plenty of chances, but instead, he didn't even intend to fall in Liebe and now he loves Elena regardless of if she's a vampire oder not. Even circa S1, we see Damon Wird angezeigt his insightful and compassionate side to Elena when he met her in the 3x22 flashback.

Elena was completely her own person in this episode. Sure, she changed her mind about a dress as soon as Damon gave his thoughts about it...but did Du see how Elena reacted to Damon's presence in the room? She honestly reminded me of a nervous schoolgirl reacting around a crush. She adjusted her hair a bit, she looked down bashfully, and what's more...is that Damon made a comparison to what she wore at the last Miss Mystic Falls pageant. Usually, a guy that a girl has feelings for that remembers what she wore to a particular event is pretty flattering. Right after Damon uttered those words, Elena's expression looked surprised to me and I think it means something that the TVD crew continually has had Damon oder Elena react certain ways to each other, oder have their expressions towards another be emphasized. Even circa S4.

In my Ansichten now, this sire bond storyline is purely an obstacle to further strengthen DE in actuality. Remember that we always survive. What is really the point of the writers doing EVERYTHING they have so far for DE's relationship, only to have it fall through the roof as soon as other characters have a suspicion (it's not really anything Mehr at this point) that Elena is not herself because Damon sired her? Like I sagte before, Stefan and Caroline haven't seen how DE just 'click' and make each other better. Caroline still has her Ansichten of Damon in that he manwhores, and in that he used and abused her in S1. Stefan underestimates Damon's ability to be trustworthy and compassionate, and to not be manipulative. They haven't seen a lot of this Damon that's grown because a lot of it hasn't been shown to them just yet, and a vast majority of it Elena oder people such as Rose have seen it from him. This is just my opinion, but personally I think this sire bond business will blow over, and Mehr characters will come to find that both Damon and Elena's feelings are real and that it's mature and unconditional love. Elena realized she liked Damon Mehr than a friend recently, and she realized that she couldn't walk away from it. And when it's real, Du can't walk away. <3

campyvamp Right on sistah! I love this article and I agree wholeheartedly (and yes, I did see how Elena reacted to Damon with The Red Dress scene. There are two ways this could have gone - she agreed about the dress because Damon liked it and she wanted a smile or, she was too flustered that she just wanted a distraction and said the first thing that came to her mouth).

(1) Stefan likes to see the things like he wants them to be, while Caroline is young, denies her own emotional conflict, and has a friendship with Stefan while she was used by Damon at the start. (2) Neither Tyler nor any other hybrid ever FELL for Klaus, while Elena can still say "no" to Damon. (3) Elena has already loved Damon as a human ("consumed" etc.), and now, those suppressed feelings explode [she says herself that she already had those feelings before, while Damon says that he is fine with her EITHER WAY]. (4) Delena had so many parallels and hints that had nothing to do with her form of being; the whole story leads to DE. (5) The show will continue so that another obstacle is needed, while there was no way to delay Delena getting together any longer. (6) So, even if there is a "sire bond", none ever had any emotional influence; and being a vampire makes emotions stronger and deeper, but doesn't change them or create new ones. (7) The death of Elena's parents also changed her, before she could fall for Stefan, but she was drawn to Damon before, showed her true self again on other occasions (Bree's bar trip, motel, washing dishes, cooking chili, ...), and being a vampire also pushes what is inside of a person. I could go on with this much longer: So, DE fans have faith and don't worry, and Crystasorrow, very well done!

PPPopopipop Preach Sister, preach! I agree with every single thought! I also had this assiciation with schoolgirl about the dress - when teenager's crush is around, many people just need to agree on some small things, just to show "we have that in common", "we fit each other", and noone wants to argue about small things with the person you're attracted to... Elena acted so sweet toward Damon! If Julie will actually be going with this sirebond storyline, it will create more plot holes in the show than there ever was, I cannot believe they'd be so stupid...

panther-jewel And Damon didn't TELL Elena that she wants him or said "Sleep with me!" or something like that. His manifestation in her mind told her that they are very much alike, but that wasn't him, it said nothing about who she wants, and apart from that, there was NOTHING (since she turned) of Damon telling Elena that she wants to be with him, and he would NEVER take adventage of her in such a way. Again, I so love your article!!!

Delenafan2 LOVE your article!! I was thinking of getting on here and bringing up the "sire" bond points myself, but you have taken it on beautifully. Another point to mention is that if she was sired to Damon, then wouldn't she have gone and fed on one of the Mystic Grill patrons when Damon suggested it to her when she went to him for help? If she was, then she would've. Instead, he fed her some of his blood in the bathroom becuase she refused to feed off anyone. Elena has had feelings for Damon since their road trip to Georgia and it had only been building since then. She kept fighting it and refusing to admit it. I also found it beyond irritating watching Caroline and Stefan talking during the Delena love scene. The way I see it, isn't Caroline a bit of a hypocrite too? Yeah, she agreed to a date with Klaus, but I think she's drawn to him too and Klaus has done way more bad/worse things than Damon has ever done. The fact that she had to turn her back on Elena for having feelings for Damon shows that she's not a true friend. She's only a friend if Elena acts like the predictable little, mindless automaton and dates Stefan so she can be the "Queen" bee. I mean, christ, doesn't Caroline remember what she was like before her parents died? I think she does because she made a mention to it once about her being "fun" Elena again. I get why Caroline isn't happy with Damon for how he treated her, but she doesn't see what Elena sees in him. Damon never loved Caroline, but he genuinely loves and Elena and I feel that she loves him too, so I don't think any supposed "sire" bond either real or imagined will have any effect on how she truly feels about Damon.

delenaluv and 2 think that damon knew about it is pathetic!! why would he have told elena that she should have called stefan after she stabbed jeremy and then called him himself and then tell her the truth that everything stefan has done he's done 4 her(BULLSHIT!) if he knew or thought 4 one second that he sired her. even if 4 some reason she didn't become sired until after she drank his blood she still didn't listen to him on the bridge and when he 1st told her not 2 go after connor. he only told her 2 kill him when he realized he couldn't stop her from going and that was what elena was gonna need 2 do 2 save her brother. this better end up being a plot device bump in the road 4 them cuz otherwise the holes in this storyline make julie's credibility as a writer look sad!

Crystasorrow Thank you everyone for enjoying my thoughts. *.* @Delenafan2 - And yes, I do agree that Caroline has been showing some hypocritical traits lately. She certainly is intrigued by Klaus. Caroline just needs to sit back and really analyze the irony of her and Klaus with Damon and Elena. The two pairings could be compared in some ways. Klaus is known as 'bad', it'd be considered forbidden to be even so much as a friend to Klaus (in Caroline's mind, because it seems to me that lately Caroline won't even let certain characters open up to see beyond their facades), and now Caroline is seeing a different side of Klaus, much like Elena sees many sides of Damon. Klaus made Caroline laugh, Damon makes Elena laugh. What Caroline needs to realize is that she's basically going through the same thing now that Elena has been for seasons. Everyone else is hesitant to even speak to Klaus...but Caroline actually reminded me of an earlier Elena talking to Damon in a way because she practically bossed the big bad hybrid around and she's getting more of an insight to what Klaus can be. Basically, nobody else sees Klaus the way Caroline has been, much like Damon and Elena's case.

delenasalvatore I've had a lot of thoughts about the supposed 'sire' bond. If Elena was sired, then surely she would have exhibited signs of it sooner, and they would have been much more evident than simply 'Damon said she should feed from the vein, so she can't drink blood bags' etc. When Tyler was sired, he acted really differently and it was obvious that something was up with him. The theory about the blood bond thing has been floating around for a few weeks, and it always sounded like a lot of scare-mongering to me. I hated it because it discredited Elena's feelings and questioned the validity of the love triangle. It just didn't make sense why the writers would do that when they'd spent up to four freaking years to get to this point. It would also fly in the face of what we've been told about vampire mythology so far - they've been telling us since S1 that everything you felt as a human you feel more acutely as a vampire. Elena's feelings for Damon were strong in S3; only problem was, she never actually vocalized them much apart from saying they consumed her. Maybe if she had, people wouldn't be doubting if her feelings are real or not. Anyhow, if this sire thing is real, then there are tons of questions about her earlier behaviour. Even as early as 4x01: shouldn't she have acknowledged that Damon was right to save her first? Shouldn't she have been a bit 'off' with Stefan on the roof because she was remembering the times Damon compelled her and she thought she should be with him instead? There are loads of incidents that don't add up if the sire bond is real, unless it's a different kind of bond and doesn't show itself in the same way as Klaus and his hybrids do. Whatever it is, it has had no effect on Elena's feelings for Damon. Sired or not, her feelings for him are real. Caroline's wide-eyed analysis of the situation felt more like a little kid who was convinced that she would marry her favourite actor after reading an interview in 'OK' magazine. The fact that Stefan is so quick to accept what she says as the truth without questioning her any further says a lot about how hard he's taking it now that, for the first time ever, Elena has chosen Damon over him. He would prefer to believe otherwise. For over 100 years, Stefan believed that his love for Katherine had been compelled, because he simply didn't want to believe that he could genuinely love a woman like that. I think it's the same here. He doesn't want to believe that Elena could genuinely love and choose Damon over him. It's looking more and more likely that the 'sire bond' is just another obstacle for DE to overcome, now that they're finally together. If it turns out that the sire bond is real, then it might be good for us because they have this deep connection that SE don't and can never have. As long as it exists separately from Elena's feelings, and not a result of being sired. Honestly, if that were to happen it would be the death knell of the triangle so I don't think the writers would do that.

panther-jewel So, what if Damon and Elena have to break the "sire bond" to show the others that their love is mutual? What if Damon’s heart-breaking decision is that he will stay without Elena until the bond is proven to not exist, until it is broken, until she is turned back or whatever to prove their mutual love, although he knows that it is real? What if there is a cure and Elena needs time (after becoming human again) to figure out her emotions or even tries to separate her vampire self from her human self completely (although both are alike except for the "blood lust")? [And I don’t know if any of that will happen, but those are possible further delays.] Elena got to know more of Damon’s goodness and unselfishness and got even closer with him, and there is no way back; Elena finally allowed her for so long suppressed feelings (that always were at their extremes around and especially for Damon), and their mutual love will be proven to be real. To pretend that Elena only has feelings for Damon because of the "sire bond" and to make Damon take advantage of Elena’s condition would speak against everything that was in the story so far; Elena already loved Damon as a human and Damon is EXTREMELY unselfish. But this is another chance to underline Damon’s goodness and what a great person he is. Damon stayed for Elena and supported her unselfishly in every way, without trying to conquer her, while Stefan now tries to find an explanation how Elena can love Damon. And the viewers are not shown much of Stefan’s pain (take the heart-breaking and tearful DE call of 3x22 in comparison), it is not about his brother using his former girlfriend; no, the story instead promises to deal with how can Damon and Elena get over this new obstacle, like the main focus always lay on the development of the Delena relationship. There is even an emphasis put on the fact that the others don’t think that someone can love Damon, without anything being wrong with her; and Damon won’t be made "not-love-worthy". We got something to help us hold on until the end, but it is still made painful for us and we still don’t get a longer Delena phase, while also Damon’s suffering continues. But they survive everything, and every mastered obstacle only makes their love stronger and deeper. And all of that proves them even more to be the tragic couple, that is kept apart by the circumstances (and the people around them) until the end, and that has to overcome lots of obstacles until it can finally end up together. And Damon’s goodness, unselfishness and heart-ache as well as our pain make him and us deserve our DE endgame more and more. It becomes constantly clearer that the story leads there, everything works in favor of us, and I feel even more confident now than I already did.

Caroline was sitting on her bed, in the sunlight. Though it was nearly noon she wasn’t dressed yet. The moment she got Home she had jumped into the dusche and stayed there for hours. It wasn’t until her mother threatened to cut off her phone she got out. Liz Forbes was still under the impression Caroline had spent all that time with her father, so as much as she would’ve wanted to curl up against her mother’s warm body and cry, she had to pretend everything was okay. Why Elena and Damon should be together

This is my opinion about why Damon should win Elena:
Damon is a much Mehr complicating character than Stefan. He is strong, intelligent, always wears a mask to hide his true feelings and in the beginning he is being presented to us as the bad guy who is proved not to be so bad after all. In reality, if we look a bit deeper, we will find out that Damon hides much Mehr behind that mask than we know.
One thing is certain: the main feelings are pain and rejection. While still human, Damon was constantly overshadowed Von his little brother, Stefan. He loved his mother very much, yet she had to die...
