I don't quite like the arguments the author uses. You can't go saying "your little cluster of pop culture fandoms sucks and you're an idiot, while my little cluster rocks because I'm awesome!". That's subjective, narcissistic and unfair, to say the least.

That said, I understand some people over 20 getting excited about it for the sake of cheese just like they are excited when the latest chick flick is released. What I don't get is how anyone of any age, especially adults, can go absolutely crazy about a series of books.
