hope you like the harry potter example!

for some strange reason, my favorite characters in books, TV, or movies are never the main characters! they're actually sort of mainish-supportish characters. like harry potter: ron is my favorite. now he is VERY important! he's in the main three! but he's not THE main character, it isn't from his point of view, like harry. same with twilight: edward, HUGE part, but bella is the first person, main character. his dark materials: iorek and lee. big (well sorta big) parts but they're not lyra.

I hardly ever like the main characters in books. Your Harry Potter example is a good one - I loved the series, but I hated both Harry and Ron, and was hoping to have them die... *curses JKR under breath* My theory is that supporting characters have more unknowns. When you know too much about a character, they lose their appeal.

pretty much the same here. characters in HP like luna, neville, and lupin fascinate me!

I´ve only read like two book series where my fave character is the main: Elling series and Fillip Mbergs eventyr, both in norwegian, and both by (The wonderfull) Ingvar Ambjörnsen

It's both for me, so I just chose based on the last book I read, where my favorite character was the main character.

Most books, I tend to like the main character, like Elena Michaels in Bitten, Stolen, and Broken of Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. But in Harry Potter, I liked the Weasley twins, at the moment, the most.

In the books I read, supporting characters are my favorite. But the book I'm reading right now, I like the main character. And supporting.

When you love a main character you have to accept that they have both good and bad sides, which can be hard! But if you can get past their flaws then you learn to really love them:)

I like the generally underrated, sometimes quirky characters. Luna is actually a good example of that.

Depends on the book. In The Lord of the Rings for example most of the characters are main and I love them all but my favourite character, Faramir is a supportive one. In Twilight I hate the two main characters Edward and Bella but I love Rosalie and Jasper. In The Vampire Diaries I love the three main characters, Elena, Stefan and Damon more than the supportive ones. In Harry Potter I love them all and in the Chronicles of Narnia I prefer the main ones. Like I said it depends on the book.
