The decision to bring the group to the sandstone cliffs was mainly because it was one of their last safe, sicher places to go and it was, again, another callback to an earlier story and another old location to go back and visit. The chess board was a massive piece of foreshadowing which I don’t really do, but when I got the idea for it, I couldn’t not do it.
