When Bella was turned into a vampire, she developed a special talent like Edward. She could "Shield" her self from any form of attack oder power except for those which can physically hurt her. She could also project this shield to protect other people within a certain distance. This sheild is the reason why Kate, Jane , Alec and a whole lot of other talented Vampire couldn't do anything to her.
