Robert Kirkman Is Already Teasing Reunions And Major Character Deaths For Season Six Of ‘The Walking Dead’
If you thought Robert Kirkman was going to break away from the talking points and throw everybody a curve ball with
, you were clearly fooling yourself. The writer and creator behind the zombie hit talked a bit about the upcoming sixth season while attending the 2015 National Association of Broadcasters Show and it was more of the same for Rick and the gang.
I mean it was completely new and groundbreaking! Keep watching, America. Screw football.
Kirkman was joined by AMC President Charlie Collier and Stephen Yeun at the event and unleashed a few tidbits about the next season, particularly when it comes to Rick Grimes and the newly arrived Morgan (Lennie James). From The Wrap:
“Having Rick and Morgan together, finally, again is a huge deal, and it’s definitely going to be a big part of Season 6,” Kirkman said.
“Now it’s a very different Rick and a very different Morgan who are going to have a completely different relationship,” he added. “And it’s the questions of how they’re going to interact, how they’re going to work together — if they’re going to work together — and what comes from those interactions is going to be basically the spine of season six.”
Yeah, this version of Rick and Morgan have been through their crazy periods. They’ve built their town-wide zombie traps and talked into their disconnected telephones, so now it’s time for them to bond and get to getting with life. That or fully team-up and take over the entire Alexandria Safe Zone,  despite the presence of the Wolves, the Irish, and whatever White Walkers are lurking deeper inside DC (Deathclaws control Olney, so don’t go there).
It does raise a good question. If it’s these two together being buddies again, what’s that mean for Daryl and Abraham. Are they just left out in the cold as secondary friends? What is the hierarchy of friendship within Rick Grimes world? Where is that infographic?
Elsewhere, Kirkman talked about his plans for Glenn in the upcoming season. This includes the rumored death for the character and how Yeun hopes he ends up going out:
Kirkman also teased “a lot of cool stuff” with Yeun’s character Glenn in the upcoming season, which may or may not involve killing off the fan favorite. Both men played coy when it came to the possibility of saying goodbye to yet another beloved “Walking Dead” character.
“We don’t kill the popular characters,” Kirkman joked, to a chorus of laughter in the room.
“If I go — that could happen,” Yeun said, adding that he’s felt lucky to be a part of the phenomenon.
If Glenn does die, it’s a pretty safe bet he won’t go down without a fight.
“The way that we make the show — the writers and everybody really want to focus on making things poignant and purposeful and meaningful,” Yeun said. “So if it were for Glenn to go, then it’s probably going to be awesome.”
The fact that we know for sure are this: someone is going to die on
. Nobody makes it out in one piece from season to season. Sometimes it is a major character getting their head chopped off in front of the prison gates and other times it is an annoying girl getting shot in the back of the head after she’s revealed to be a rat carving murderer. It happens.
Will Glenn die? Does it matter? I still hold out hope that Daryl is the one who bites the bullet (possibly distraught from Rick’s choice in running partners). Anybody can and will die in this show, much like in life. That’s just how it is. I just wouldn’t hold out much hope in Glenn getting any possible bad ass, fighting ending.
If Sam Jackson goes on record as saying he doesn’t want to die like a bitch in
, yet still ends up dying like a bitch, I don’t hold out a lot of hope for Steven Yeun.
"Robert Kirkman Is Already Teasing Reunions And Major Character Deaths For Season Six Of ‘The Walking Dead’"
Sigh another hot air filled article full of nothing. Oh and yet another male that wants Daryl dead. that is getting OLD!
Get over yourself and your jealousy of Norman Reedus. Good lord guys!
This show like all shows exists for one reason = MONEY and NR is their cash cow so just forget about him dying. No one does more advertising work for AMC than N.R . The guy is on all the talk shows and at a comic-con every other weekend all year long.
Stop telling the world you want Daryl dead. WE ALREADY KNOW THAT.
The show is bigger than any one man it may take a small hit from those that are just Daryl fans but it would also gain by getting Robert Patterson fans so they can afford to kill him off.
First off, I am a “male” who wants daryl dead. Not because I am jealous though… thats the stupidest thing i’ve ever heard. Despite what you believe, Men aren’t typically “jealous” of success of other males.
And saying “This show will end if he dies” is even more moronic.
Did you know the comics were a complete utter success about 8 years before the show even aired? The comics are STILL a success with the assistance of the show of course. But how come they are a succcess? Must be because Daryl is in the comics! WRONG, Daryl is a MADE FOR TV character. So that must mean the comics are doing terrible right?…. Wrong….
Your insight is based on the fact that “Daryl is pretty and he brings money”
Lets me tell you an insight from an actual FAN of the show/franchise.
Daryl NEEDS to be killed off from NEGAN (Leader of the saviors)
If you don’t know who Negan is, then you really should be commenting on “What can end this show”
Anways, Why should Negan get the kill? Because Daryl is the strongest character in this series at the moment and NEEDS to be made an example of. The group needs a HUGE hit. I want to see them struggle without the power house of Daryl. And what better way the through Negan. What better way to introduce the biggest/baddest villian in Walking Dead than to have him kill Daryl and to show that they don’t stand a chance against him.
Trust me, I LIKE Daryl alot. I like all of Normans acting and enjoyed him in his movies (Boondock Saints 1 and 2) but they show needs to rid of him for the sake of the walking dead series.
But knowing Kirkman, they would rather have him LEAVE the group rather then get killed. Which is such a poor move because his death would be so memorable and would make TV history and aswell boost the strength of a villain like no other can.
This my friends, is speaking from a true fan of Walking Dead. Yes I am a male, and no I am not jealous of Norman. I just want some good fucking story telling.
Another female flashing her Daryl fan card. Sigh. Anyone can die to push forward the narrative. Its called story writing. Im a big Carol fan, if she dies I’ll get over it. If you cant watch walking dead without Daryl, then by all means, don’t.
Agreed. It’s like it’s the hipster thing to do, rip on Daryl, rip on his fans, hope he’ll die and it’s laughable because they’re not going to kill him off just so some internet trolls can get off.
I personally cannot wait for Daryl to go.. I am a big fan of his but I am sure it will make for a record breaking show for ratings and such.. Also, just to sit here and watch all the crybabies and bitching about it afterward would be golden! This show is awesome and the fact that you never know who will go next is what makes it that way.. The main characters being swapped around keeps the story going as it would get to be pretty damn boring with the same clowns killing off some zombies every week!
Ryan, I couldnt of said it better! I like Daryl. I dont want any of the main cast thats left to die. But his arc is will and truely over. He’s not as needed as he once was and I believe he’ll be meeting Lucille. Carol76, saying that the show will die if he dies and that people who want him to die are just jealous, is childish and plain stupid! You should be embarrassed to even say something like that! In everything you wrote, you didnt even have one valid reason for him to be kept on the show. How about you let go and realise what the walking dead is really about!
I’m a guy and I do NOT want Daryl to die. I also don’t want Glen to die.
Maggie, even for all her good looks, would be okay.
The deaths we’ve had recently don’t bother me at all (except that they take too long: 30 minutes for the brother?!)
So, all told in VERY happy with the choices made (though cutting off head in front of prison guy was very sad (and surprising!)
What I want is for the group to settle down and live their lives in a safe place (like Alexandria), without messing it up (Doggone! Why can’t Rick stay sane for a whole season?!)
Ummm, I have to respectfully disagree with your final point. Sam Jackson did not die like a bitch in Star Wars. He was about to kill Darth fucking Sidious before Anakin came in and fucked everything up. If anybody died like a bitch in Star Wars, it was Liam Neeson.
In the comic, Glenn gets beaten to death with a baseball bat wrapped in barb wire by a character named Negan, who leads a group of “zombie exterminators”. Recently, Robert Pattinson signed on to play the character Negan in season six. It’s a safe bet the show will closely mirror the comic in this instance.
That’s actually not true, at least not yet. Do a little Googling and you’ll see for yourself.
The Pattinson stuff I mean, obviously you can’t be wrong writing about things that have actually happened in the comics.
I hope he’s been taking his testosterone pills.
Robert Pattinson as Negan was an April Fools joke. There’s no way in he’ll they’d bring him on.
Robert Pattinson playing Negan was an April Fool’s joke….and Glenn dying at Negan’s hand is not really a spoiler alert, even to those of us who don’t read the comics. Just because it happens in the comics doesn’t mean it’s going to happen on the show. I personally think Henry Rollins would make a great Negan.
I don’t know why I was scrolling through these terrible comments, but holy shit. Rollins as Negan is brilliant. great suggestion.
Kirkman has stated that he envisioned Negan as a “Henry Rollins type” when he created him, so it’s no surprise that actual Rollins would make for a great Negan.
Danny Trejo would make a great Negan
Good one with the Irish, but aren’t they and the White Walkers one and the same?
Did Lori really die? I mean for all we know that fat zombie just ate her Placenta right? I wish she had gotten away so they could surprise Rick….
First, the story is Rick’s but Daryl is the most popular and I know that bugs some because it’s the hipster thing to do right now…say how it isn’t the Walking Daryl, that Daryl gets more story and it isn’t fair, that the fangirls of Daryl ruin it for you (how weak are you by the way, letting another’s experience ruin it for you), blah blah blah blah. How you hate hearing “If Daryl Dies We Riot”, as if that will direct how you see it and again, how weak are you to let another’s opinion that is, in no way, affecting you, dictate how you feel. It’s one thing if you’re being directly attacked by some fans and in that case, yes, I’ll sit and condemn them with you. But if someone is simply saying if Daryl dies we Riot or how they’ll stop watching if Daryl dies…big deal! Whoopie doopie on a poopie, seriously. Daryl Dixon is the most popular character on the show. Popular characters make money for whomever owns the show. In this case, not only does AMC own the show but they own Daryl since he’s exclusive to the show. THEY make the final call, not Gimple or Kirkman and honestly they’re not going to let Daryl die just on a whim or out of spite or whatever.
There’s a companion series starting but ever hear of a spin-off? Where you take a character or element from one show and put it in another? Frasier, Mork and Mindy, etc. Mark my words, THAT’S what they’re going to do with Daryl for as long as Norman is game and, if done right, they could make a TON of money with it. They say no one is safe but in reality, it’s those AMC wants safe that are. They have to act otherwise, obviously.
Really.. You think Daryl is more popular than Rick? WOW.. eheheee I cannot wait for them to kill him off just so I can watch you clowns lose it…
Lmao at the hypocrisy of your post, you’re the weak one crying here. First off, AMC has no control over TWD, and doesn’t OWN it, except to air it. If you actually knew anything about the show, or show business, you would know that. Kirkman is the OWNER, and PRODUCER, not AMC. He could take his PROPERTY, and leave. Kirkman makes the final call dumbass, he’s the writer, and again the PRODUCER. You really think he couldn’t go to HBO, or somewhere else if he wanted? Secondly, you and a few others are the only ones crying and moaning like children at someone’s difference of opinion. You are fangirls at best. We are speculating on the obvious. Kirkman has stated several times “No one is safe” only Rick, since the show and comic book are centered on him.
There’s nothing wrong with liking Daryl. I think most people like him. The people who are upset are just scared that it will turn into The Daryl Show, and they have probably been looking forward to the emotional impact his death might make. It would be a shame if it turned into The Daryl Show, because there is so much more story to tell in The Walking Dead than that. As for killing him, no one can really say what will happen, since his character was made for the show and not in the comic, although I am fairly sure that he’ll bite the bullet at some point. This isn’t because people don’t like him, but because it’s what Robert Kirkman does. He makes you care and then he crushes you for it, and this is still Kirkman’s baby, as AMC typically gives their shows near full creative control. But yea no one blames you for liking Daryl, he’s awesome.
I don’t get why everyone wants Daryl off the show..sure an amazing death helps the show but he is one of the foundations of the old group and although I enjoyed this season more than the last two , none of the new entrants can pull this show along..without a good core the show will falter..you want a death let’s kill off ricks son ( his acting I am sorry is sub par) and watching Rick deal with that could be interesting….
Straight up. Shut up. This whole BS talk about who they need to kill and who they shouldn’t. Sit back, STFU and watch the show. If it does not pan out like the comics did, suck it up princess, if your favorite character dies, suck it up princess.. Fact is whatever Kirkman decides to do, it’s the right choice. I cant stand half these comments on the net. Every “fan” constantly bitching and whining about who shouldn’t die and who should. And the whole Pattinson as Negan is laughable and anybody who believes he is Negan or will be, well you’re gullable as hell. Many many names have been teased to us as who will play the role of Negan, and well the only one that caught my eye was Jason Momoa. Would rather see a badass Negan and not some boyband looking Twihard Negan.
Well said. I couldn’t agree more, although it does seem a bit on the angry side.
No, you’re not. I feel like the best way for Negan to make his “example” would be to smash Carl AND Glenn, then take Rick’s hand to boot.
If Daryl Dixon dies, my family will be done with the Walking Dead, It is Daryl, not Rick who makes this show. Our not viewing the show probably wont hurt the show but I am of the thinking there are a lot of people out there who agree with us.
Yea you think that until he does it. Sons of Anarchy killed off one of the fan favorites(oppie), and it turned out to be one of the most memorable moments in recent television. He’s only in like 15 minutes of every episode anyway, so unless you’re only watching for 15 minutes, I think it’s safe to say you like the rest of the show as well ;-). You can see sexy guys anywhere on TV but you watch Daryl on The Walking Dead because the story telling is monumentally good and they make you care about Daryl.
Then repeat to yourself “It’s just a show. I should really just relax.”
Personally I just like it as a show don’t care who dies it all adds to the drama of the show, they could do anything with Darryl cause he’s not in the comics, can ppl not just enjoy it as a show? If u r only watchin it for a certain character a think u miss the point of TV the story is the main draw.
My husband and I are both HUGE fans of the show, but have no plans to read the comics. As far as I can tell, the writers are genius and the acting is amazing. If one of my favorite characters dies, yes, I’ll scream at the TV for a while. But I won’t stop watching the show – because it’s awesome.
Right!? Sexy people are on every show. People watch TWD because it’s incredibly good.
Anyone who says they will stop watching the show if a certain character dies is not a true fan of the show. It’s so stupid and I’m sick of seeing it. I love the show and Rick and Carl are my favorites but I wouldn’t stop watching if they died.
Wow, and here I thought all this “If Daryl dies we riot” was a joke. There’s some vehemence in line with Belieber defenders on here.
FWIW, Daryl has historically been one of the most fun characters to watch on TWD, but acting like we’re all pining for his death because OH NOES ALL THE LADIES LUV HIM is just really silly. We’re pining for his death because we’ve all been jaded by Game of Thrones and can’t feel anything when a character dies unless it’s surprising and brutal– DUH!
That and his character has been pointless for the last two seasons, rarely advances the story any more, and it feels a little like he’s just being kept around to satiate a very oddly obsessed fan base.
If you want a show where the most attractive male star is just kept around indefinitely until girls no longer care– I dunno, maybe try Grey’s Anatomy?
Forget all that I dont want neither of them gone espically Glenn
Whoever they decide to kill off, it will unexpected and shocking. And the whole group will be affected. I think Season 6 will bring us closer to the Alexandrian group…why not one of them? Also, Rick with that new lady?…what about Michonne? I tuink they would make a cute couple!….they are already family! A wedding would be so cool to see! And Daryl would be the best man, of course. I’m just glad they killed off all the ones they did, especially Andrea. She got on my nerves. For being a lawyer she was very naive and stupid. I do miss Hershel though. It will be interesting to see Morgan and Rick together again after all this time and what they both went through. You all are forgetting about Sasha….she’s about to loose it and just became a mommy in real life. She may want to leave…
All I have to say is that this was a very poor article. Next to no information and jabs taken at fan favorite characters just to get people talking. It’s horrible that people make money off of writing thin-air articles like this.
I really want it to be Glenn. I can’t stand Glenn on the show. He comes off kind of whiny. His death in the book was shocking and sad. On the show it will be a relief.
HEY!! I’m a 60 yr old straight white guy, & I don’t want ANY of the crew to die, just for shocking sakes! I’ll get thru no matter who gets bumped off, but I just want to be entertained immensely!!
A lot of people cite the success of the TWD comic vis-à-vis the television show, and I’ve read comments that Daryl could be killed off on the show because the comic is a success without that character. This is comparing apples to oranges. The comic has a circulation of somewhere around 635,000 + per month; the show averages MILLIONS of viewers per weekly episode. The Season 5 90-minute finale did an 8.2 share for the 9 PM showing. Decisions about who lives/dies on the show will be ALOT different than the same decisions made by Kirkman for the comic. As another poster said, it’s about $$$, and the more popular a character is, the more likely they are to survive. Carol is long dead in the comic, yet is alive and well and an important/popular character on the show. The same thing in reverse for Andrea. Killing off a character in the comic is inconsequential compared to doing that on the show, where ratings and advertiser dollars are in play. For example, we all know Negan is going to beat someone to death on the show, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will be Glenn. Bob took the place of the long-dead (on the show) Dale for the cannibal scenario. Don’t be so sure that whoever dies in the comic will die on the series, for the reasons I stated above.
I read the comics and I’m a big fan of the TV show. Daryl and Michonne are my favorite characters and I would be very upset if either one of them were killed off. Robert Kirkman will do what’s best for the story line. This was not a very good article.
It is sooo sad that they either want to kill off Daryl or Glenn!! It really sucks! Why kill off a major pepole!! Kill off them pepole from Alexandria? They are soft and don’t kno how to kill walkers so let one of them die and mot Daryl or Glenn!!
Because killing off minor characters that people have no emotional investment in is not interesting. It does nothing to help the story and would be poor writing.
Actually it’s Steven, not Stephen. Second, another one who wants Daryl dead? Man. Maybe it happens but I don’t think so because the ratings would go down. With Glenn, too but as soon as Negan shows up (in whatever season) we know what happens to Gleen I’d say.
You know great as this show is and I am a avid watcher, it is only a TV show and its not real life and really not getting over heated about!!
Do not, I repeat Do not let Daryl die you will lose mega viewers…
I want Dayrl to kill Glenn on Rick’s command so Rick, now a Warlord of Alexandria, can dress up Jessie and Maggie in matching Princess Leia slave outfits.
Daryl is my favorite, but it’s like his role on this show is being the muscle or a weapon. He is so resourceful (like decapitating three walkers with a rusty chain), so a lot of people like to see him in action. I would like to see them give Daryl more of a story, if not maybe it’s best to put his character out of its misery. Like who is Daryl? I feel like Reedus, if given the opportunity can bring more to the show (he’s a great actor).
This was a crappy article. I am a Daryl fan but everyone knows that no one is safe. Like someone stated in the earlier comments “relax its just a show”. I have enjoyed it since day one. Although I’ve never read the comics I have a few friends that do and they pretty much keep me in that loop. I just live the suspense. Not knowing who’s gonna die from week to week.
Pretty sure Daryl will die at some point anyways, so why bother with the “If Daryl dies we riot” stuff? Sure I like Daryl, but I also liked Oberyn from GoT, Russo from House of Cards, Mike from Breaking Bad…. Spoiler: They all die, but I still love those shows, and honestly, the deaths fit. If you don’t trust Kirkman enough to choose the right time to kill off a major character, don’t watch the show.
This article is a joke, it’s more speculation and writer opinion than actual information. All filler.
Since everybody’s 2 cents counts…. Right? Deanna should have already been dead and Nicholas is a shady character. The entire group that they happened upon should be thankful to still exist!! It makes for many more characters they can kill off without upsetting the masses so to speak. That being said… I am sure they will kill off any one they want. I love the show but when they kill off so many main characters in one season it makes it hard to want to continue to watch. It’s like you see the train wreck coming and decide if you want to watch and perhaps be traumatized.
I was upset to see a lot of characters to go. I would hate to see Daryl go. To me Daryl represents the South. Your traditional Hunter, Fisher, and not some crying little wimp. Lennie James, awesome actor loved him in the Jericho series. Negan we will see him in 2nd part of season 6. Scott Gimple has already said he likes an 8 episode story breakage. Knowing they will stick with close to the comics but change something here and there, a major character will die when Negan is introduced. It seems to me all the fans saying if you kill character “X” I will stop watching the show, you are creating this hate for the character cause of your bullshit. If they kill Daryl, they kill Daryl, if they kill Glenn, they kill Glenn. This is a great show and will continue to be a great show. These actors are getting very sought after and will have to go for other contracts “Bigger Money”.
The comics are NOT the same as the show. We’ve seen that time and again. Personally I’ll be pissed if Glenn dies not only because I’ve enjoyed his progress as a character but also because then Maggie will have lost everyone. But I’ve been mad at a lot of deaths. I don’t take the “hints” seriously cause Kirkman would never give anything away like that. As a side note, Carol can go. I get her role on the show but I’m over her and honestly wouldn’t be sad to see her die. Death by a child would be interesting and quite fitting. Just saying. We shall see when season 6 starts up again way too long from now!
This was a really good thread all the way for thr most part, a few whiners Anyway, my take is anyone can die, even Rick. With that said, lets look at the development of the show so far and the roles, Rick has just become the Rick I wanted him to become and at least for a season I think, he’ll be the badass we saw at the end of season 5 and take the group and new members to a new level, so he’s safe. Carol’s character has just really went to a new twist and she is a necessity at this point as she’ll do the underhanded work, but always loyal to the core group, so she’s a necessity and is safe I would think. Daryl is the soldier and loyal to the core group and has just found some hint of wanting to think future, so I think he is safe. All three of those characters have huge developments coming, so they aren’t going anywhere probably (but that/s just a guess, because I know they could kill one to keep it maddening for us). As for the rest of the core group, I wouldn’t want to see any of them go, but Glen would make sense as his character really is a support role, even though he does have his moments. His wife could go to, or cause her to become a little carol or blame one of the group and cause a divide….
