Harnois was born in Detroit, Michigan, Wayne County. Although she was born in Detroit, Harnois was raised in Los Angeles. She attended St. Mel's School in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, and graduated from Wesleyan universität with a degree in film studies in 2001.
