October 5th, Wednesday, Mel’s birthday
“And you’re sure Du had nothing to do with that?” Mel inquired to Kai while they sat at the cafeteria with Kalie.
Kai shrugged. “Maybe beating up one of their goons made them loose confidence. I mean, I am a girl after all.” Kai chuckled.
“There’s tough girl, then there’s girly girl. Girly girl is what surprises me.” Mel noted.
“And they haven’t done anything to Du at all? Nothing? Not even an insult?” Kalie questioned to Mel.
“Nada-zilch.” Mel replied. “Not that I’m complaining…” Mel groaned slightly, “unless they’re just planning something big and are too busy to notice me anymore.”
“Why not ask them?” Kalie questioned.
“Me?” Mel asked with a surprised look and eye-brow raise.
“I meant Kai. Y’know the one they’re afraid of.”
“I don’t think they’re afraid of me.” Kai said. “They just… know not to mess with me. But I’ll try to once I can find them again. Anyway, did your Mom give Du anything special for your birthday?”
“Yep. These.” Mel pulled up her lange ärmel to reveal that her arm was almost covered in wrist-bands with dozens of colors. “That and some money.”
“… Why so many?” Kalie asked in surprise.
“I dunno. I’ve always wanted to have a ton of wrist-bands, I just didn’t think Mom would let me. And so far, aside from that, I get carrot-cake for lunch. YUM!” Mel took a rather large bite of her meal.
One Stunde and forty-five Minuten later…
Kai quickly found the gang (of which how she was easily able to find them you’ll find out later) in the gym, talking to a suited-mobian… a black-colored mobian, with murky green eyes. Kai recognized the eyes, and quickly hid herself. The athletic-bimbo scaled the Wand and held herself up between the corners of the ceiling above them. From there, she snooped.
“What do Du want, Mr. Mobian?” Luann questioned hostilely. “You’ve got like ten Sekunden to tell us, oder we’ll call the cops!”
“… The brains of the outfit.” Turn sagte sarcastically. “I need your gang to attack Mel Curry, and cut off her arm. Wearing disguises is best, though I don’t care if Du get caught oder not.”
“WHOA!” Reme interrupted. “We don’t want to mess with her! And we don’t cut off arms!”
“I wasn’t asking your permission.” And with that dark statement, Turn pulled out a small device, which took over the gang… all except Gara, who did not react.
“You don’t need to waste your time with me.” Gara informed. “I’ll get her for you. Sounds like fun.”
“Indeed. Fun.” Turn grinned. “You should attack at a Zufällig time, and not on a specified one. There could be eyes watching right now.” There were. “Were” referring to past-tense, for Kai was already gone.
Our main heroin, Mel, was walking Home now. She had gotten out of school a bit early Von using the “It’s my birthday” excuse, which she did not want to have to use but she was quite desperate to leave this time, due to the future-tense excitement.
As Mel made her way to her neighborhood a small spark went off on her arm once again. She stopped instantly, and examined her arm. The bruise from when she originally cut herself was close to being fully healed. Too bad.
She took out a small messer from her pocket and cut open the wound again. Her hand shook a bit, and her face showed how painful it was, especially due to the fact that she was re-opening a wound. When she finally got to her Bones she saw that her idea was correct, oder nearly. Her Bones were pale-red, and glowing slightly.
“What’s happening to me?!” She screamed. No one would hear her. The part of town she was in was a quiet one, and most of its inhabitance were still in school.
“Well I know two things.” Mel sighed as she calmed herself. “I’m not allergic… I’ll have to keep quiet till after the party. Otherwise everyone will freak.” She continued on with her hand healing almost instantly as she went.
The party soon began at four-o-clock. Mel herself wasn’t quite herself. She acted slightly sad, but tried to hide it. Of course Kalie did not know why. Maybe it was because of the lack of fatherhood Mel had.
“Mel, Du okay?” Kalie asked while the two were slightly separated from the others.
“Me? Yeah. Fine. Why?” Mel replied nervously.
“Well Du seem kind of… down… oder something. Did Gara mess with Du again?”
“No.” Mel was thankful that she could be truthful there. But what would she do when asked what was really wrong?
“Is it about your dad?” Kalie asked slightly hesitantly.
Mel’s eyes widened for a moment as an idea popped up. She put on her best sigh and sagte “I guess. I mean it would be nice to have a dad. And I am sixteen today.”
“Well is your mom seeing anyone? Did she ever tell Du about your father?”
“Kalie, I’m adopted, remember?” In fact Mel was adopted. Her mother raised her from birth, but she was gegeben straight after. They sagte the donor wanted to remain unnamed. Mel wish she could find out who. At least then she could get some answers. It made her upset even now, though this was a good thing ironically. The distraction of such a memory was good to keep Mel from thinking about her strange new powers, if they were powers, and calmed her as well.
Kalie was never good with words when it came to comforting, but she tried her best. She placed a kind-hand on Mel’s shoulder, and tried to smile comfortingly. “I’m sure you’ll find out eventually. Hey you’re sixteen! That means a car. Which means Du can go looking for ‘im.”
Mel smiled back with a chuckle. “And wreak havoc on the high-way along the way.”
Kalie laughed as well. “Well anyway I think it’s time for your presents before we leave to the laser-tag.”
“Alright.” Mel grinned as they walked back to the living room. “Wonder where Kai is though.”
Mel received a state-of-the-art Boom-box-system from Kalie, with a microphone built inside, two tape-players, three CD-players, and a port for her L-pad (I-pod). Mel and Kalie loved music, rock and pop above all. They were convinced as young girls to become singers, and while they slowly Lost that dream, they still danced around in Mel’s bedroom when sleeping over.
Nick gave Mel three different-colored bracelets. One was red, one was gold, and one was silver. Not the element, but the color. They were perfect to go on her non-covered arm, though she couldn’t help but notice her now healed wound as she slipped them on.
Kalie’s brother, Tarus, gave ten dollars. He wasn’t told that he needed to give a gift, but he wanted to be nice anyway. Mel appreciated it.
After a quick pizza for the guests, they headed off to the laser-tag. Mel was calm enough. It was rather impressive actually. It was not normal for someone with such a strange set of events happening to them to be so calm and composed. Mel was like that. Usually calm, even under pressure, and good at keeping secrets.
As they hopped in the car, Mel could not help but wonder where Kai was. And not just because she was late, but because Mel felt as if Kai had something to do with this as well.
Kai as one would have it, was actually getting to house at that moment. She had been spending the rest of the time tracking Gara. She had planned to knock Gara out, then get the rest of the gang, but when she hit Gara on the back of her head… something strange happened. Her head leaked a strange glue-white substance that Kai was all too familiar with. She quickly retreated, with Gara not following surprisingly, though Kai knew she wouldn’t.
The bimbo got to the house too late (half an Stunde late to be precise), and no one was home. There however was a note saying “Gone to laser-tag” on the door.
“WHICH ONE?!!?” Kai growled. There were in fact four different laser-tag locations in the city, and Kai needed to get to the right one as soon as possible.
Meanwhile…
Mel was shooting it up with her friends, and some added people who teamed up with them. A boy named Jack, who was only eleven, stuck to Mel’s side like he did his older brother. He was a bit of an easy target, but Mel didn’t mind.
The two tagers rushed Von and shot down two opponents, then continued on till they got to the enemy base, where they quickly shot at the orb in the middle of a cave. Five shots correctly and they would get an extra hundred points, and invincibility for twenty seconds.
*zeeeet* One. Jack looked over to see the enemy approaching.
*zeeeet* Two. The enemy drew near. “They’re coming!” He squealed.
*zeeeet* Three. The enemy was in range.
*zeeeet* Four. The enemy was about to strike. Jack jumped in the air, to block the laser-beam, but it never came.
*breep breep breep breep breep* Five. Jack and Mel’s laser-tag-packs lit up brighter, so signify their invincibility.
Mel turned to give her little ally a high-five, but froze when she saw the enemy. It was a medium-height female grey bat. She wore a suit-like uniform, like one would wear as a uniform for school. She has hair that was drawn back and long, with grey unemotional eyes. She wore no shoes, and no gloves, and no impression of life. She simply stood there, starring at Mel, who was also not moving, but not for the same reasons.
Finally the words came out. “Who are you?” Mel questioned. The bat did not reply. For ten Sekunden it was silent. Mel sensed hostility in this bat, so she pulled Jack behind her and told him to run, which he promptly did.
“What do Du want?” Mel asked. Still no reply. This time however the bat moved. She raised her hand till it was aimed at Mel’s head, then slowly revealed her long, lead-colored, claws.
“MOVE!!!!!” Someone screamed before tackling the bat, who nearly missed Mel’s face with her stretching arm. The person and the bat crashed through the wall, and into the Weiter Wand in. There was a large shriek, then the figure, who turned out to be Kai, went crashing through the wall, with a small groan of pain as she struck through them, followed Von a large crashing sound as she landed.
Mel rushed to where Kai had clobbered the bat. The bat was gone. This scared Mel. She quickly turned to where Kai landed and rushed over. At least she’d be with a Merida - Legende der Highlands person now.
Kai was already on her feet and in front of Mel before Mel had passed through the Sekunde line of wreckage. “WHAT IS GOING ON!?!?!?” Mel screamed.
Kai quickly covered Mel’s mouth. “We need to get out of here now.” Then both of them disappeared. When they reappeared they were a mile away, in a parking lot, right Weiter to a car. One inch Mehr and they would materialized in the middle of the car’s back-door.
Kai let go of Mel, who fainted instantly… then woke up immediately after. She was still falling, and as soon as she regained consciousness, she flipped backward, and landed on her feet. The remark on her face was beyond shocked. “How did I just do that?!”
Mel quickly forgot her Frage when someone behind her sagte “Hello” in a small girlish voice. She turned around to see what looked slightly like a human, but different. The little girl had very large purple eyes, long rosa hair, with purple stripes on them, no nose, grey skin, a grey and rosa hoodie, and a rosa rock with grey pants.
“What are Du doing?” The little girl asked.
“W-we were… uh…” Mel turned to Kai who looked even Mehr horrified than Mel.
“H-Holly…” Kai stammered weakly, “Is your mother close?”
“Mommy? Uh… I dunno. I think so.” The girl disappeared, then reappeared on Mel’s head, and proudly declared “IMMA HAT” giggling childishly.
Kai was not amused. She was terrified.
A black limo pulled up in front of them. Kai quickly pushed Mel behind her, and waited for the rider to come out.
The first to come out was the most surprising. Gara’s gang members. Luann, Carry, Reme, Vale, Gale, ect. Only… they looked different. Their eyes were darkened, their faces looked torn, with glowing red strips going down the cuts, and their hands and feet had mutated into swords and energy cannons.
“Get back.” Kai growled. As she did this, the glowing began to brighten, then faded as the bullies began to turn around and walk away, but then they stopped. They turned back to Kai with an even darker look, and continued towards her.
“I sagte BACK!!!!!” Kai stomped one foot vorwärts-, nach vorn and raised her arms towards the zombified-teenagers. They sparked rapidly, with red and white lights going off everywhere until they finally shut down, and collapsed.
“Impressive.” A feminine voice sagte from inside. The back door opened, and then she walked out. She was a tall human, oder at least she looked like one. Her long straight hair was black, with red highlights. She wore a business suit, with a red tie, black gloves, and high-heel shoes. Her eyes were black, while her pupils were dark red. Her lips were red as well, and her skin was pale. She grinned creepily as she cowered over the three things in front of her.
“Holly,” the woman said, “Inside the car.”
“Awwwwwwwww.” stechpalme, holly pouted. She hopped off Mel and ran into the car, which drove off.
“Wh-who are you?” Mel stammered.
“You may call me Miss Ira.” The woman replied. “I wish to explain some things that I know Du want to hear. oder Du could just let the assassin guarding Du tell you, if she ever does. But she’s not allowed to. She has orders to keep Du stuck here, forever, and never know the truth. Isn’t that right, Kai- I’m sorry. Kenfi?”
“Who’s-…” Mel stopped talking when Kai attacked. She lunged at Miss Ira, who dodged, grabbed her, then shot her out of view.
“Now then,” The villain continued as she cracked her knuckles, “Shall we be going?”
“No.” Mel spoke plainly as she quickly began running as fast as her legs would carry her. Surprisingly she was running much faster than normal now. She was surprised, but had no time to gape over her new power, and continued on past mach-4 speeds unitl *WHAM* Straight into a Wand she went.
Mel regained consciousness five Sekunden after crashing. Her blood covered the ground, but her wound was healing already. Her face did not even have blood-stains, though her clothing did. Standing above her on the oben, nach oben of the building was Miss Ira, who promptly jumped down in front of her.
“I did not want to harm you, and believe me that’s saying something, but I suppose I have no other alternative.” The strange woman raised her arm, and twitched her hand in front of Mel. Weiter she lunged vorwärts-, nach vorn and landed her fingers right on Mel’s forehead, coursing an energy through the poor girl.
Mel could feel the change of what this this woman was doing. Mel’s morals, her opinions, her choices, her side of good and evil began to change. She felt sick, and defenseless, like someone being sucked backwards into a disposal, with their arms already gone.
*BLAM!* Kai struck Miss Ira from the side, shooting the creepy lady across the asphalt till she stopped herself. Mel collapsed onto the floor, not unconscious this time, but immobile. She could not Bewegen at all. All she could was watch as Kai transformed from Kai the Bimbo Overlander, into Kenfi Idens the Identity.
The person in front of Mel was a medium-height rosa cat mobian. She had large ears, green hearts on the ends of her ears, and yellow flower-tattoos on the ends of her arms. She wore a dark purple T-shirt, black pants, and no shoes.
Miss Ira walked up to her opponent with a glare. “If Du are going to reveal yourself, I suppose I can too.”
Miss Ira then changed also. She was now a tall dark-brown lynk, with black stripes, the same eyes as before, the same hair, and a Chinese-style dress. The oben, nach oben was a black vest, with red stripes from the right side, with the same for the bottom. She had long black gloves, and black boots. This was Virus, the Leader of the Anti-Identities.
“And Von the way, sucker-punches don’t count. But I don’t need to get my hands dirty for this… yet.” Virus snapped her fingers, with a spark on the tips, and the corrupted-teenagers appeared.
“WHAT ARE Du PEOPLE?!!?” Mel screamed, having begun to be able to Bewegen again.
“We are in the class called ‘Hellborn’, but our species are called the identities. I am Anti-NICOLE, but Mehr commonly known as ‘Virus’. Moving on.”
The Teenagers attacked Kenfi, thus distracting her while Virus attempted to take control of Mel once again. Mel fought as hard as she could, but she could not keep herself for long.
Kenfi tore the teenagers apart, then charged into Virus just as she, Mel, and now Kenfi disappeared. It was silent shortly after. For twenty Sekunden it still remained silent. Somewhere in between though stechpalme, holly hopped around the area (which was right outside of a restaurant) while trying to catch a butterfly.
One could imagine how the every-day-people were reacting, but to be safe, sicher I shall explain. The people in the restaurant were now under the tables hiding, while calling 911, their parents, their children, and their lawyers, in that order. The rest of the area was cleared off, which was surprisingly quick due to the amount of people that were there right before Virus had crashed.
Finally the silence had passed. All three characters materialized in the middle of the air. Virus and Kenfi had locked arms, and were now battling to take over the other’s will. Mel crashed to the floor immobile once again.
The strained looks on the two identity’s faces was almost terrifying. The event was forcing their entire Nanite-bodies to de-materialize in certain areas, making them spark and fuzz-up like when a TV has static. The two energies between them began to cause an energy bubble, which quickly bursted beneath them, sending them both backwards.
At the same time both Kenfi and Virus teleported before crashing, and ended up landing back to back. Virus made the first Bewegen Von swiping Kenfi’s legs and punching her into the ground while shooting an energy beam from her hands into Kenfi’s face. Kenfi replied Von sinking her foot into Virus’s chest and charging an energy ball inside, which imploded Virus from the inside out.
Kenfi teleported to Mel’s side; she did not have much time. She waved her hands in circles above Mel, which slowly created a gel-like energy circle. “What are you… doing?” Mel asked hazily.
“You’re not a normal teenager, Mel.” Kenfi replied vaguely. The kreis lit up, and out of it came a Chaos Emerald.
Kenfi clutched the item tightly and began to infuse Mel with its energy. Mel felt instantly healed, but at the same time like she was being torn apart and replaced Von something else. She was losing her human genes, and her Identity genes were taking over.
The process was almost complete, but Virus had regenerated, and was two inches from Kenfi. She would have to be careful. If she simply attacked her, Mel could blow up, oder all of them could sky-rocket into the moon. She would have to grab the smaragd as quickly, and gingerly as possible.
Kenfi caught wind of the hand just before it made contact, and threw to the side. Virus growled and kicked Kenfi downwards before teleporting after it. Either way however, the process was complete. Mel was now 100% Identity.
The smaragd was directly above Virus, but a different player caught it. He was a white mobian-based figure, with silver shoulder-armor, boots, gloves, and a silver thin chest plate. His face was white, with silver eyes as well. An upside-down triangle, silver of course, was on his forehead. He was an identity.
The Male Identity quickly took advantage of the power, and transformed instantly. He was super before anyone could blink, with blinding-gold skin, and white armor.
“Why can’t Du stay out of this!?!?” Virus yelled as she and the male landed.
The Male glared. “You are not in a position to make demands, Virus. Leave now.”
The dark Lynx glared for a moment, then began to cackle lightly. “No… I suppose I’m not… not yet.” Without even raising a finger, thirty Identities appeared out of nowhere. “Now, I am in a position to make demands.”
Instant carnage ensued. It was the super-powered Identity Vs. the army of Identity Soldiers and their master. The wreckage was everywhere. Energy beams, explosions, even tornadoes flew in all directions.
Kenfi quickly picked up Mel, who was recovering from the process, and thus now was very unstable, which caused her body to melt slightly. The rescuer would have teleported, but then the others would sense the energy, so she ran. She ran at five-hundred-miles per hour. Behind her were five identities.
Chaos Energy spears flew straight at Kenfi and Mel. Kenfi ducked down, drilling them both into the ground, then drilled back up and sliced the identity in half. One identity tackled Kenfi, but she shot her down and continued escaping, this time Von flying out.
At the fifteen-minute-mark Kenfi realized that they would not be able to lose them, and would have to fight. “Find me at Rex-Diner in Pax-City.” Were Kenfi’s final words before lunging Mel out of the way and flying off with the other Identities right behind her.
Mel landed hard on the side of the road, almost unable to move. It was dark now, and hard to see. Slowly she moved to the desert-dirt area, where the cars wouldn’t go, but after that she Lost all strength. All she could think of was “Go to Pax-City”. She thought of this for a good long while until the thought of her mother crossed her mind.
“She’d be making abendessen for me, and being worried about what might happen at school.” Mel thought. “Kalie… Kalie would be looking for me to hang out. Wanting to cheer me up after a Tag of bullying. But… I-I… won’t be there…” Mel wanted to cry so badly just then, but her strength was so little that even that was too hard.
Unable to even fall asleep, Mel simply sagte there, thinking about everything. What that strange bat was, why Virus wanted her, who the male identity was, and who Kenfi was. Eventually she reached a state that was similar to sleeping.
When she “woke”, it was burning hot, but she felt normal. The sun shone brightly, but she did not avert her eyes. It did not hurt. In fact she could actually zoom in on the sun, and it’s red and orange flares. She got up slightly to position herself better, but felt herself clinging to the floor.
Mel looked down and saw that her skin had actually stuck to the floor like glue. She took her hand and tried to pull herself off, but her hand simply melted off. She would have screamed but her mouth probably would have come off as well.
For a good ten Minuten Mel tried to Bewegen slowly upward. Eventually her backside gave way, and she could stand, but very slowly. She could feel her body sinking and crumbling like sand after hit Von water. The new-born identity remembered how Virus regenerated, and thus concentrated her thoughts on herself turning normal again. When she opened her eyes her wish came true… partly.
She looked like her normal human self, clothed and everything. Mel let a sigh of relief escape her lips as she slowly began walking down the road. After a short while, her leg fell off. She hit the ground with her face, but it only stung slightly, and was quickly healed. Her foot was not. So again Mel concentrated on healing, and again it worked.
“Hmm… my body isn’t connected with my brain I gue-… do I have a brain anymore?” Mel moved her hand quickly to the side, which caused the Nanites attached to collapse, but she saw in their place, just for a moment, a glowing hand.
“Chaos energy.” She gaped. The energy was inside her. She was the energy. The Nanites were her body. The energy was her life-force. Now she would need to connect them.
One last time Mel concentrated on the Nanites and the chaos energy. She pictured them fusing, and aligning, and as she did, her body broke and repaired and shifted and grew and shrunk till finally, it was finished. She could feel it was finished. Her hand felt solid, instead of the sand-like feeling she had prior, but still…
Mel took a step forward; safe. Another step; safe. She began to jog, and it was safe. So she ran. She ran faster and faster, going past her first high-speed. She quickly made it to a city, but it wasn’t Pax-City, it was Orr-City, which was the last city over.
No one could see her yet, which was good. She was a blackish, glowing figure with purple eyes, no nose, no ears, and no clothes. Thankfully she had only outline of her female-body which did not Zeigen any specific parts. “Okay… think human. Think human…” Mel concentrated on a different appearance this time. She couldn’t look the same, but she didn’t want to look completely different.
Her new form was a pale, yet not bland, skin. She was tall, she always wanted to be tall, with red hair that was actually red this time (Mel often complained about only a few things, one of which was why people called orange-hair red, when it made no sense to her.), purple eyes, no freckles this time, a slightly large head, but only slightly, smooth hands, a medium-small nose, normal-sized lips, and normal feet. She decided to dress to match her hair, but she did not want to look too girly. She wore a red scarf, a dark red lange ärmel shirt, dark-blue jeans, and tennies. Simple, but usable.
Mel’s first instinct was to get some food, but she felt no hunger, no doubt because of her new form, so she chose to look for some type of map to get her to Pax-City, and to get to Rex-Diner. (One other thing that would constantly annoy Mel was the fact that a lot of the cities were named with some three-letter-word then “-City”. Her town was called Sector Five, so she didn’t really understand that either. Not to confuse Pax-City and Orr-City with city’s from the Overlander States. They were not part of the same government, but directly Weiter to each other. They had no quarrels, but there was a difference; Pax-City and Orr-City were part of Alderon, which was a similar country to the one of Knuckles the Echidna. It allowed humans and mobians, though mostly it was echidnas. The overlander cities only allowed humans. Mobians were allowed in emergencies, oder when in the matter of a council of some sort, but aside from that they were illegal immigrants if they attempted to stay.) She knew not where a map-stand might be, oder if those even existed. So how would she get her directions?
The young identity, previously human, walked the streets, and became quite distracted Von the many interesting people. The echidnas were the most interesting, as they were the main species there. There were some humans of course, but not many. Fifteen at max that she saw, and most of them belonged to the same families.
As she passed a playground, she noticed that the sky was getting cloudy. It was a good thing she brought a scarf. A small little fuchs toddler slid down a green slide, giggling as it went. It was a very cute little fuzzy person, but the parents were giving Mel a dirty look. She hadn’t noticed how long she had been starring at the child, and since she was human in appearance, she seemed a bit hostile to them, so she walked on.
Still pondering of how to get to the location, an idea struck the teenage identity. She could use the library. No doubt it would be perfectly safe, quiet, and hospitable. The computers were probably only allowed for fifteen-minute use, but she doubted it would take that long to find the location of a speiselokal, diner in another city… unless there was Mehr than one. But either way, a bibliothek seemed a better place to be when things got cold. Mel knew that Librarians could be annoying at times, but she had to admit that Libraries did give her a sense of warmth and safety. Was it the books, the quiet, the couches they sometimes had? Who knew?
She found a bibliothek after almost an Stunde of searching. It was a nice medium-large one, with two stories, and solar-panels all around it. The outside was surrounded Von some trees, while the inside was like a giant carpet, with everything being as tan as the fuzz floor. There were plenty of couches thank-goodness, though Mel did not feel tired. She was beginning to like this new form… slightly.
She sat down at a computer seat, prepared her fingers, and- “THE bibliothek WILL BE CLOSING IN TEN MINUTES!!” The librarian announced. “Crud.” Mel groaned. She typed extremely quickly, her senses moving much faster than normal. In ten Sekunden she had already made a map to Pax-City, and was closing in on the only Rex-Diner there.
*DING* It wasn’t a sound that could be heard “ding”, but for some reason that was the first thing that popped into Mel’s mind when she finished. It was like running for a long period of time, then when passing the goal, a glocke sounding, oder a gun-shot going off to signify your success. Mel felt very successful.
She walked out of the building and found that it was now night. The surprised identity looked upward to the clock on the oben, nach oben of the library. It read 7:00 P.M. It boggled her mind that time could fly so fast even though she had only briefly used the computer. However, Mel did not head this thought long, as she now had a new problem; where she would go for the night.
While Mel could probably very easily walk to Pax-City at night, there was a very large chance of an attacker coming after her. And what about the identities who were after her and Kenfi? Was it smart to try and slip past in the night? Would they not be able to see her? Either way, if she was attacked, she would not be able to defend herself. She knew too little about combat, and would probably collapse like she did the first time if she were to Bewegen too quickly. So Mel looked for somewhere to stay.
Being social was not one of Mel’s better traits. Direction was not either. The Identity walked up to a motel, which was quite clean to her relief. She had no money at the moment, but at least she could know what it would cost to get in, and maybe she could clean up for stay oder something.
“Uh… Hello?” Mel greeted nervously to the man at the front desk.
“Hello. Would Du like a room?” The man asked in a very tired yet positive voice.
“I would… but right now I’d like to just know the price.”
“Well that depends.” The man replied, leaning back in his recliner. “How long are Du staying?”
“Just till the morning. Till it’s safe…” Mel did not mean to let the last part slip, but it did.
“… Are Du in some kind of trouble, kid? Where are your parents?” The man asked in the “Something’s up here” tone.
“… It’s just my mom, and she’s not here.”
“Oh. A run-away.”
“I’m not a run-away!!” Mel sagte angrily. She did not know it but her eyes changed to red when this happened. Thankfully the man was too tired to notice. “I… I’m from the Overlander States. I got attacked Von a bunch of… people, and I was supposed to go meet a friend at Pax-City, but I can’t go till morning.”
“… Did Du call the cops?” The man looked a bit Mehr concerned now, but Mel couldn’t tell if it was the “stalling for time while I figure out a way to get Du away” concerned, oder the “I want to help” concerned.
“N-… Yes, but they wouldn’t believe me.”
“They wouldn’t believe that a bunch of thugs attacked a young teenage girl in the middle of the day? Not trying to insult ya kid, but that doesn’t sound Unglaublich to me.”
“Well they didn’t. How much is a room? I just need it for the night. After that I’ll be gone.”
The clerk turned his head away from Mel. He had to think. It took a while to do all that thinking, but eventually he opened a locked-cupboard behind him, and pulled out one of the room-keys.
“Room twelve.” The man handed Mel the key. “Tomorrow I’ll get Du a map to the City oder whatever, but as soon as Du get there, call the number on the back of the key. If Du don’t Von the end of the day, I’m calling the cops.”
It was a fair arrangement. “Deal.” Mel answered as she started through the hallway.
“One Mehr thing, kid. What’s your name?”
“Mel C-… M-Mel. Just Mel.” Just-Mel jogged through the hallway, passing a staircase as she went. She slowed slightly, and noticed a Male overlander, somewhere in his early twenties oder maybe his late teens, walking down. He had brown shaggy hair, her was tall, with a grey T-shirt, dark jeans, and grey eyes. The boy gave her a strange-looking grin that unnerved her, so she walked a bit faster now. If she jogged oder ran, it might cause him to chase her.
Mel casually looked behind herself and saw that the teen was actually walking in her direction; not running, but still going towards her direction. Mel increased her speed, and actually passed room-twelve. When she realized this, she turned around. The boy was getting closer.
It took a bit of nerve to walk back. Mel turned herself completely to the door of room-twelve, just as soon as the teen came up to her. The nervous identity kept her head low, as if she was trying desperately to get the door open… which she was.
Behind her the boy was still standing. Mel didn’t look at him, she only opened her door, walked inside, and closed it quickly. It took a while after to get the courage to look through the peep-hole to see if he was still there. He was. It was a very good thing that Mel was not able to sleep at night now.
Eventually the teenager left, and that following morning Mel waited till she could find something to be a projectile-weapon before actually leaving her motel-room. The only weapon she found available to her however was a newspaper.
Slowly Mel opened her door, then walked up to the front schreibtisch at a slightly supersonic speed. “Do Du know a boy who was here?” She asked the man at the desk.
“Depends.” He replied. “What did he look like?”
“He was… tall. Had shaggy brown hair… grey T-shirt…”
“Oh him. He checked out a while ago. Why? Is he the person Du had to meet?”
“Uh no. He wasn’t… I just…” Mel spoke a little softer and got closer up so the man could hear, “I was walking to my room and he started following me till I got to my door. Then when I got inside he was standing in front of my door for two hours.”
The man at the desk, who had yet to speak his name, jerked backwards slightly. It seemed like he was about to say something, but he kept silent till Mel finally sagte “Well?”
“… Du need to get to Pax-City, right?” The clerk finally asked.
“Yeah…”
“… I can drive Du there.” Mel would have protested but the man continued. “You have someone after you, Du had that run-in with that punk, and you’re alone. Either let someone help oder I’m going to get the cops.”
Mel would have argued but she knew it was no use. “Alright.” She sighed. Then to herself she thought “If they don’t kill Du along the way.”
They had to wait for another Stunde till a replacement arrived to take the Clerk’s shift. Once that was over, they got in his rather flat-car, and drove off.
Along the desert road, Mel began to notice that her Nanites were changing again. Her hand was back to its black-form that she had originally. This startled her, though she was able to fix it easily. What if this happened when someone was watching?
It was a quiet trip. Cramped, but quiet. The clerk sagte very little aside from “Do Du need something? Restroom? Water?” When they stopped at a store Weiter to a gas-station. Mel of course needed none of these things, but did not want to come across as stranger than she already did, so she pretended to drink a water-bottle the Clerk bought her, which felt much different than it used to. She did not schlucken it. When she tried, a lump of her Nanites fell into her throat that she morphed into position. It felt like wet sand, without the choking oder bad taste. It was almost normal-feeling, but not quite. Mel did not drink anymore water for the rest of the trip.
Pax-City was much like Orr-City, except it was surrounded Von mountains instead of a desert, and was much Mehr downtown-style than Pax-City’s large, yet quiet, kind of feel. There were lights on everywhere, even though the time was only 1:00 P.M. It was surprisingly clean for a downtown area. The litter was minimal, the cigarette-count was below ten, and the air was easy to breathe, though Mel did not require air anymore.
They parked in front Rex-Diner, which was a medium-sized wood-style restaurant, with a large neon sign Lesen “Rex-Diner”. Mel remembered something about someone called Moteri-Rex, oder perhaps it was spelled differently, but that was the only tie she could think of for why they chose that name aside from Dinosaurs.
“Is this the place?” The Clerk asked as they got out of the car.
“Yeah.” Mel replied. Thanks for taking me. Du didn’t have to do that.”
“Hey I’ve got my own daughter, and I know when a kid’s in trouble. There was no way I was leaving Du to walk up here alone. Where’s your friend?”
“Um…” Mel squinted her eyes, pretending to be stressing to find her friend, which in a way she was, but not in the way one would think. Normally they would think that the person would be simply looking for a familiar face. Mel was scanning the heat signatures, body-language, voice-differences, height/appearance-differences, and energy-signatures. She saw no one that matched Kenfi anywhere.
“She’s probably still driving over.” Mel answered. “or she was killed…”
“What?”
“Nothing! Uh…” Mel turned in all directions. She was hoping that Kenfi was near. At least then there was someone who could actually protect her if the Identities were looking for her still. She still found no one with her eyes, but her ears, and everyone else’s, could hear the joyful shriek for miles.
“EAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!” The Bimbo-Kai-form Kenfi squealed. She taube over to Mel and gave her a tight hug. It did not hurt, but Mel subconsciously reacted with “OOF!”
“Why’d it take Du so long, Mel?” Kenfi asked, pretending to be offended. “I was like waiting for-evahra.”
“I…” It took Mel a bit to figure out that Kenfi was pretending, “I got stuck in Orr-City. Thankfully I got a ride.”
Kenfi turned to the Clerk, who was raising an eyebrow at the pink-skirt ‘N purse. Her was even Mehr displeased when Kenfi gave him a most unpleasant hug, but contained his annoyed feelings. When Kenfi let him up for air her asked in concern “You gonna be okay, Kid?”
“Yeah. Thanks again for taking me.” Mel answered. She knew he probably wouldn’t like another hug, but the teenager couldn’t help but give him one for taking her there. It felt kind of like an “almost-father” kind of feeling, seeing how Mel never had a father, and technically never had a mother, oder at least not a human one.
“Well… I should get back.” The Clerk sagte nervously, hugging back lightly. “You be careful. If Du need anything, just call the motel. Du still have the number, right?”
“Yeah.” Mel answered as she let go. The Clerk waved goodbye then disappeared in his flat-car.
As soon as the deliverer was gone, Kenfi’s perky and bubbly-bimbo personality shattered to a serious determined face. “Follow me.” She ordered. Mel followed uneasily. She still had questions.
Kenfi and Mel made their way into the Diner, then to the girl-s restroom. They waited till the last person left, then Kenfi brook off a besen handle and stuck it against the door, keeping it shut. “You’ve got questions, right?” Kenfi asked with a sigh.
“Y-ye-yeah!!” Mel answered nervously and excited. “What am I? Who was that Lynx person? Why can I morph? Was that bat one of Du too? Why are Du helping me? Who are Du really? What are identities? Why did she call herself ANTI-NICOLE? When are Du going to tell me to stop asking questions!?”
Kenfi pondered for a moment, then took a deep breath (though she did not need it) and sagte “You’re an identity, the Lynx person, Viurs, is the bad-guy trying to take over the world, you’re composed of Nanites that let Du change shape, the bat is not an identity but she’s very dangerous. She’s a monster known as Slender, I’ll explain that later. I’m helping Du because I’m a good-guy, duh, I’m Kenfi Idens, an Identity from Iblicis, an alternate dimension of this Mobius, they’re chaos-energy and Nanite-composed beings, because she’s the Moebius version of NICOLE-prime, and pretty soon.” Kenfi finished with a smirk then went back to being serious.
Mel took a while to match the Fragen with the answers. Eventually she had just two left. “What happened to me? From the beginning.”
“The very beginning then.” Kenfi leaned back, a sign that there was a lot to tell. “On a different Mobius, there were two NICOLE-types who fused and made the being Virus. Virus eventually exploded, creating the Identities, clones basically, but with different stories. There were millions originally, now there are… I don’t know how many. The two NICOLE’s, IRON-NICOLE, and ANTI-NICOLE, survived. IRON-NICOLE fell onto a Mobius and befriended a bunch of hybrids. ANTI-NICOLE ended up in a strange dimensional world that she refuses to tell the name of. She got out, and ever since the Identities go with her, Rin, IRON-NICOLE’s new name, oder the male identity Du met earlier.”
“And who was he?”
“His name is Kae. He leads the Rebel-Identities. They don’t like me oder Rin’s side, but they hate Virus’s more. As for you, Du were the last ORIGIN-IDENTITY, which made Du the last possibility for the CHAOS-SOUL identity. As so, Du were sent here. We made sure your parent knew what Du were ahead of time, along with make her use a special compound that kept your Nanites thinking Du were human, and adjusting as such, your allergy pills. It kept your energy signature blank until Du apparently chose not to take them for a while. After that, they sent me to go undercover as a protector. Unfortunately Virus also found you, hence the Acid-Monster. I’m surprised Du knew about those. How did Du find out?”
“Google.” Mel answered with a straight face.
“… Really?” Kenfi asked in complete disbelief. “… o… kay. Anyway, when Du stopped using your pills again, I started to sense your energy signature. I tried to sneak the serum into your cake at lunch, but apparently something with the cake messed it up, and it didn’t work. After that I spent a while doing… other things. In short, Du can’t go home.”
Mel was taking it in hard, but she only had one last Frage now. “What about … them? My Mom? Kalie?”
“… I’m guessing that they sent Slender after them. A way to ‘teach Du a lesson’ oder some-such nonsense. Du can’t go back there.”
“WATCH ME!!!!” Mel screamed.
“I’d let Du try, but Du don’t know how to teleport correctly yet.” Kenfi informed, remaining calm as always. “You need to get to the meet-up point before Virus sends everyone after you. The only reason she hasn’t found us yet is because one of our Identities is pretending to be Du to lead them away, but they’ll figure it out soon, so we have to go.”
Mel did not want to comply. Who was this girl to tell her that she couldn’t go see if her Mom was alright? “I’m only going if Du check on her, and if Du don’t I will.”
Kenfi nodded. “Alright. But Du need to go, now.” Kenfi placed her hand on Mel’s shoulder. Within a quarter of a Sekunde she was sent out of that city, that country, that planet, that dimension. She had traveled to a different zone. It felt energizing, but she kept her face straight. Now was not the time to be drooling over new powers.
Mel found herself in a dark room. It was metal, very large, with lit hallways in different directions. She turned to see a figure walk up to her. It was a male, medium-height, shaggy silver hair, glowing grey fur, glowing blue eyes, with a black hoodie, and grey pants that went over his feet. He looked serious, the type of serious that was calming in a way. He walked up to her and sagte “Are Du Mel?”
All Mel could say was “Y-… uh…huh?”
A very small smile came over the… person’s face. He quickly reverted it back to his serious tone again and sagte “My name is Dimension 4. I’m an ally of Kenfi’s. Are Du hurt?”
“N-no… ally? Don’t Du mean friend?”
“Well I would say friend, but I don’t know if Kenfi has any…aside from at one point someone named Meyra.” Dimension 4 gestured for Mel to follow as he turned back to the hallway.
As they walked Mel asked “Are Du an identity?”
“No.” He sagte without a sign of emotion. “I am a mobian core. I just wear the hoodie because I think it looks cool.” A small grin came on his face. Mel could not help but grin back a bit from the humor.
“Where are we going?” The identity questioned again.
“I need to get Du to a room. Don’t worry, it’s not going to be army-like. Du can… do whatever Du need to do in there till you’re ready to come out. Once Du are, we’ll need to ask Du some things…. Well Kaiya will need to ask Du some things.”
“Kaiya? Not Rin?”
Dimension 4 stopped for a bit, seeming surprised that Mel knew so much already. “No.” He answered as he started up again. “Rin is busy talking… with an old friend.”
