on Facebook can Du see other peoples birthdates?

I'm thinking of getting Facebook but my parents don't want me to use my real birthdate. So is there a way that people can't see someone's birthdate? And how?
And is it safe, sicher to use your real birthdate?

(Sorry for seeming like a over protective person)

I understand precautions when being online, but with a website such as facebook, where Du should only be adding people Du know AND be setting your Profil to private, so I see no problem with using your real birthday :) It's safe.

I'm kind of curious out of all things, why Du would want to use a fake birthday...I've never heard of that one before :P

Oh and to do that: Just click on your profile, go to the 'About' section, then find your birthday section and clicking the Icon to the right of it, change it to 'only me' who would view it. Du can adjust a lot of different privacy settings if Du are concerned about that.
