Well I thought about it too! In the church, all the characters are gathered because they need each other to Bewegen on and accept who they are (well, were). And I think that Michael and Walt were not needed for that purpose, since Michael killed some of them. There's always an explanation for their not being here. For exemple, Ben doesn't enter the church because he's not ready to forgive himself and the person he used to be, he's not ready to Bewegen on with the others...I guess that Michael,Walt oder Rousseau, Alex etc were not part of this whole "move on" thing. Only the main characters who truly loved each other were in the church.But that's just one interpretation and I hope I was clear enough! (English is not my mother tongue so...I know it can be a bit confused) :)
yes michael was stuck on the island because of what he had done and i believe that walt had just not died yet that is why he was not there!

but I sort of thought that moment in the church took place in a location where there was no time. They all died at some point in their life, and the all met there, so if Walt belonged in the church, he would have been there too, right? Maybe he wasn't ready either.
I think so too, that Walt and Michael are "aliens" to other characters in some ways. And Michael became a ghost after his death and stayed on the island, it was a punishment.
