I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Game of Thrones Crew Arrives in Iceland! | Watchers on the Wand | A Game of Thrones Community for Breaking News, Casting, and Commentary
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
The Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon in Iceland / Emstrur, Wikipedia
returning to Iceland for season seven has been a possibility for a while. First of all, it makes sense: Winter is here, as Sansa declared in the appropriately titled season finale,
—And what better location is there to depict the wintry north of Westeros than Iceland on January? Sure enough, in November there were rumors of a location… However, there have been no developments on that front; not a single report or even a rumor, which made us think the production had decided against the hassle of filming in Iceland again. Thankfully, our fears were misplaced!
The fine Free Folk redditors are always on the lookout for Game of Thrones news, and today was no exception. User
crew at the Jökulsárlón glacial lake in the southeast of Iceland:

Interestingly, the crew may not be the only ones packing for colder weather than even Ireland can muster. Especially for a difficult location such as this, it wouldn’t be unprecedented for the crew to film some plates that would later be included in the show, with no need to take any of the actors on location. However, most of the people in these pictures —Katy Taylor, Ciarán Curry, and Sylvia Lovetank— have worked in the show’s costume department in previous seasons (Jen Groundwater alone hasn’t, but she does work in that field and describes herself as part of the
) Costumes mean characters, and characters mean actors —Or, at the very least, extras.
Helpfully, Katy Taylor provides a timeframe for any filming that may happen in Jökulsárlón or elsewhere in the country, as they will be there for two weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if during the next couple weeks we got to see some of the actors involved in the Wolf Hill action sequence travel to Iceland for a relatively brief shoot.
In my view, these are great news. In seasons two and three, the lands beyond the Wall looked so breathtaking for a very good reason: Iceland. Recreating that magic now would be perfect, not only because the story is drawing to a close but because the greater budget may be able to do this beautiful Nordic country even more justice.

Wait, is it confirmed that they are going to film at Jökulsárlón? I’ve been there before, it’s one of the most incredible places I’ve ever set foot.
Ridiculous how beautiful that place is!! Seriously ridiculous!! Can’t wait to see it on screen 🙂
I’m going in March! Can’t freaking wait.
Filming s7 till the end of February. Isn’t that like the longest shooting period for GOT so far? Normally, they wrapped up 10 eps within 5 months. And the season’s shorter by 3 episodes.
Go people! You have the power! Make it happen 🙂
Im looking to plan a trip there within the next year.
I really have a high expectations of the next season.
Ha you linked to freefolk. That’s awesome. The GoT and ASOIAF subbreddit mods will have a temper tantrum when they see you linked to freefolk. It’s not a bad thing though, don’t get me wrong, I just think it’s funny since those two subreddits despise the freefolk one and like to pretend it doesn’t exist and isn’t as important as their subreddits. A few of the mods at ASOIAF in particular will probably blacklist this site now (just kidding), though, given their previous childish outbursts at minor and mundane things…maybe not.
Ughh I’m so jealous…please take me with you 🙁
Seriously, you will have an amazing time! Make sure to take a lot of pictures, the scenery is stunning.
Wow it’s absolutely breathtaking how gorgeous that is, I can’t wait to see it on screen. That blue is so beautiful.

In her post, Katy wrote she’ll be in Iceland for “just a couple of weeks “; and another of her comments rather suggests that she’ll be still there at the beginning of February.
So I guess the team will probably be longer there than only two weeks 😉 .
I heard on twitter from a GOT news account that Liam said at the Golden Globes they are filming S7 until the end of February and will start S8 around September.
Even if his character isn’t in any of the scenes, I expect Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson to be in the background fighting a wooly mammoth, or whatever.
Arya Serious: Ridiculous how beautiful that place is!! Seriously ridiculous!!
It is a pretty unique place: it’s situated right on top of the Atlantic rift, and is some weird tectonic byproduct of it. (I forget the details!) But you can actually stand “on” or “between” the rift in some places. And the rocks there are really unique because of it: in a lot of ways, they are about as “fresh” as rocks can be! And you can get raw, rugged land there like few other places.
At one time, it was hypothesized that it was a byproduct of the comet strike that wiped out the (non-avian) dinosaurs, but I think that they have a better explanation now. I went there on a field trip 25 years ago: I’d love to go again….
But of course, they can’t miss a Thing. 😉
I went diving at the Silfra fissure last year, The Silfra fissure is actually a crack between the North American and Eurasian continents. The underwater visibility in the Silfra fissure is over 100 meters, and it really feels like your floating in a mirror.
Also, it’s so great to see my friend Sylvia on this site ❤️
a girl forgot what name she used the last time she commended
Those are some gorgeous pics!! I would so like to visit these places.
More time to write, more time to shoot and probably more money to spend as well.
Yes, the next season is going to be EPIC! The hype-train has left the station.
