I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Mysterious new Game of Thrones footage popping up today | Watchers on the Wand | A Game of Thrones Community for Breaking News, Casting, and Commentary
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Well, we tried to wait it out and see if the actual video would turn up today, but no dice so far. So, we’re diving into the quick and dirty screencaps and seeing what we find!
Last night, it seems that a new teaser or trailer for
season 6 aired on TBS during the basketball game, around 10:40PM Central Time. Luckily our friend
Manu happened to be watching the game, and managed to catch several images from the trailer and jot down a description of the action happening onscreen.
We’re going to be sharing Manu’s screencaps below (with his permission), along with descriptions, speculation and thoughts, so if you’re spoiler-phobic, this is where you check-out, because there’s some good stuff here!
Update: This video version has surfaced finally! We’ll keep looking for a better version but it’s great to have something!
The trailer’s dialogue/voiceover appears to include three notable sections of dialogue. First, Tyrion, speaking his line about “the great game” that was featured in the first trailer. Then, the High Sparrow speaks with Tommen. Manu believes it was a new line of dialogue. The last half of the trailer was a Jaqen H’ghar voiceover, speaking of giving the gift and adding to the wall of faces. There may have been more small pieces of dialogues throughout.
Manu says, “Trailer opens with Dany, very end of second frame shows someone pushing her confirming captivity.”
Tyrion, Missandei and Grey Worm in the throne room in Meereen:
Next we see figures running in the snowy woods, including Sansa and most likely Theon, just after their escape from Winterfell:
Jaime on horseback, surrounded by Tyrell soldiers. People who have been following spoilers know that this is from the big scene filmed in Girona, involving Margaery.
Brienne attacking men, while on a horse. From the snowy-Northern-forest look of things, this is connected to Sansa and Theon’s scene; she appears to be rescuing them!
Drogon flies over the Dothraki moving into Vaes Dothrak, casting a shadow down on them:
Tyrion- paying a visit to the remaining two dragons, perhaps?
Jaqen H’ghar and Arya Stark, in the House of Black and White. We hear Jaqen’s voice during this:
The trailer contains several quick close-ups (possibly even more than Manu managed to capture):
Theon, with someone. I agree with Manu that this is probably his sister Yara.
Ramsay, before the big episode 9 battle. Manu tells us he also saw the same shots we’ve previously seen of the burning flayed man and charging horses on the battle field.
As we reported exclusively back in November,  we get to see a giant paying a visit to the gates of Winterfell! (Edit: Everyone’s pretty confident this shot is of Castle Black, so damn, Wun Wun is going to be busy this season.)
And there’s a quick flash from the Tower of Joy fight scene! Both men that we can see look to be wearing the Stark leather armor (the one on the right more clearly so). I’d love to get a clean look especially at this shot.  The man just appearing in the far left side of the frame seems to have more armor on and is presumably the opponent, perhaps the Targaryen-armored once glimpsed in the first trailer. (
Edit: now that we have the video, I can see that these are the three soldiers who are all fighting against the Targaryen-armored knight, who is obscured in the center.
And finally, another incredibly exciting moment: a glimpse of the Night’s King grabbing Bran’s arm! This looks to be part of that moment from the first trailer when Bran turns to see the White Walker king, but we weren’t certain if there would be any interaction, since Bran is having visions. This is getting better and better!
Though the footage was fast, Manu says he’s sure he didn’t see anything of Jon Snow, Davos or Melisandre in the trailer.
Thank you very much for the quick eyes and thorough capturing, Manu! Everyone give him a big thanks and be sure to read his Memory Lane write-up that’ll be posted next Tuesday, when Manu pays tribute to one of season 3’s best episodes, “Kissed By Fire.”
We’ll keep on hunting for the video of this teaser. So far, it sounds like HBO has no plans to release it online but maybe they’ll surprise us?

Are we sure that’s the Gates of Winterfell? It fits the spoilers, but it looks more like Castle Black to me
That giant is clearly bursting into Castle Black, not Winterfell.
while its great we have screencaps, why was it that Manu was unable to record the teaser? just curious
I know for a fact the giant bursts into Winterfell. So either A) that’s Winterfell, one of its gates, or B) Wun Wun is busting into multiple gates this season. (Which is not impossible.)
Great catch Manu! Thanks! Where did he see this? As cosca has said, I’m pretty sure that’s Castle Black… Although it could be one of the rampart walkways of Winterfell too…
I don’t understand how no video has surfaced. If Manu could pause, why not record the whole thing? Just curious. We had the game on and my husband and I are both huge fans of the books and show. How could we miss it???
Also, I totally called the Drogon above the horde shot from the first trailer when she looks to the sky. How exciting!
In the EW pics we se a crippled Bran on riding a horse, meaning he left the cave + we saw NW in the cave.
Why would Bran leave his “friend” Blackraven unless …:
Blackraven is Night´s king or is directly controlling him by warging.
That would be quite the running gag for the show to have
Not everyone has the equipment to get something recorded from their television and onto their computers.
That’s Tyrion probably looking at the Dragons, so it’s probably a “show version” of the Quentyn scene in the books. With obviously a different punchline, hopefully.
Maybe it will air during basketball again tonight. I’ll be watching for it.
Love Bran and the Night’s King. Don’t like Ramsay and his army. He needs to get his due this season.
Odd that this footage would air without the usual fanfare. Has it happened in past seasons?
It definitely looks like the Southern Castle Black Gate. Has the same walk way above.
Holy shit, Batman. This keeps getting more and more awesome.
That’s definitely castle black, I googled it to be sure.
I may very well spontaneously combust after seeing this. I previously said I’ve been cool calm and collective in waiting for the new season, but I’m starting to get antsy. Now let’s hear something from George
I saw the “commercial” too. It was on TBS last night during the NCAA Tournament sweet sixteen games. I saw it during the Oklahoma and Texas A&M game. There are two more games on tonight (one starting shortly) so it’s possible we might get to see it tonight.
If this is after the Wildlings find out about Jon getting killed, I foresee a short lifespan for Alliser Thorne and his cohorts…maybe they come in to help Davos while he’s fending them off with Longclaw…LOL

Three Starkmen in the fight pic. You can see a man in the middle of the two prominent Starkmen and to the right of the closest man’s shield. Mostly a man’s arm holding a sword. I think it’s the same colour as the other Starks.
Wun Wun’s gonna destroy them gates this season isn’t he.
So did people read the EW issue where it said bodies pile up on the Battle of the Bastards. That reddit poster claimed something similiar? Unless it was just a figure of speech.
Totally Geeking Out over the NK grabbing Bran’s am during A VISION. Whaaaaaat?
Brienne will kill all those Boltons alone ??? Looks difficult…

Looks more like Castle Black to me, i dont know if im the only one lol. I could be wrong
In a tidbit from WIC, apparently GOT shot 10 days on Calgary this year; this is apparently where they shoot the wolves for the Direwolf scenes in the show…so presumably we’re guaranteed more Direwolf action than the 2 shots of Ghost that we saw last year!
Brienne will kill all those Boltons alone ??? Looks difficult…
Podrick had some training. He will probably help this time
Does Drogon seem bigger to anyone? Judging by his shadow over the Dothraki.
I’ll try to record it if I see it again. Plan on watching games this evening but the ones in which we are most interested in watching are on CBS.
Well this is exciting and great praise to Manu, but it’s not anything significantly new…yet. The hunt continues!!
Special effects guys said the dragons double in size every year, and will double in size specifically in Season 6 yet again.
Season 5 Drogon was about 40 feet long (keeping in mind that this is from snout to tail-point, and dragons are “mostly tail, neck, and wing” (anything more bulky would be unwieldy in the air). Drogon is also officially always about 20% larger than the other two.
So….80 foot long Drogon next year?
Season 6 takes place immediately after the Season 5 finale, so I don’t think so.
there is the umber sigil on the shield behind ramsay.
Maybe it will air during basketball again tonight. I’ll be watching for it.
Love Bran and the Night’s King. Don’t like Ramsay and his army. He needs to get his due this season.
Majority of the fanbase probably doesn’t even know this footage exists.
last year his wingspan was 60ft and yes the VFX team have confirmed that this year his wingspan will be 120ft
I hope they switch sides, I mean they have to have a reason to side with them.
They’re the wardens of the north. Maybe Smalljon Umber doesn’t give a shit about the Starks.
They’re the wardens of the north. Maybe Smalljon Umber doesn’t give a shit about the Starks.
Maybe the Wildlings issue for the Umbers trumps their status as Starks bannermen?
I think there’s an equal chance he’ll just be an ambitious and immoral lord throwing in his lot with Ramsay, but I guess we’ll see
That’s probably correct. So I will ask again: why release it without any hype?
This is something that came up in our discussion group on Good reads; I am hoping the same. It would be something they would do, unless T is part of the three headed dragon, or has some other destiny. Please, I’d lose my shit.
Also, regarding my first comment, I’m not doubting the authenticity, just wondering how, if you can pause, rewind, replay, and take photos, why not rewind and play, and record? Unless he had a Poloroid or old school camera… In any case, TBS is about to have some record ratings tonight!!
Tyrion is a primary character of the series. Dornish Barbeque Boy was not. The rules therefore are quite different.
Wun Wun The Great Gatecrasher. He be bustin’ down them gates like a motherfu…
Damn, that TOJ fight is gonna kick ass.
Rather the latter. Bodies do tend to pile up on a battlefield.
MarthaAnn: Plan on watching games this evening
George: Maybe the Wildlings issue for the Umbers trumps their status as Starks bannermen?
Well, why would they view siding with Wildlings as part of their duties as Stark Bannermen? As Bannermen to the Lords of Winterfell, one of the Umbers’ duties is to help repulse Wildling invasions.
Remember, Jon does tell Ygritte that every boy in the North grows up learning about the 6 prior Wildlings invasions. OK, that’s probably every “high born” boy: but they are the ones that make policy decisions!
That’s probably correct. So I will ask again: why release it without any hype?
Not really sure. Maybe it was a test run, or they didn’t mean to air it yet? It makes sense to air it during the games because they get high ratings. Maybe they’ll air it before Vinyl on Sunday night. They’ve been airing the trailer before it the past few weeks.
I knew it – Bran and NK in an epic Rock/Paper/Scissors battle!!!!
In the books, wasn’t Victarion Greyjoy attacking Mereen by the end of book 5? So, for the Ironborn storyline this season, the first part could be the kingsmoot. You know, meet the new characters, do the kingsmoot itself, and some more character building. THEN – in the 1st trailer, if you caught it, there was a millisecond shot of a bunch of ships at sea in a storm. This could only be the Iron Fleet. Now, if they somewhat carry the storyline from the book, Euron (instead of Victarion) could be sailing to Mereen to try and marry Daenerys or take one of her dragons. This would be super cool, and after all the Battle of Slavers bay stuff is over and IF Daenerys beats the ironborn or makes some sort of alliance with them, she would have tons of ships for travelling to Westeros. What do you think?
This is something that came up in our discussion group on Good reads; I am hoping the same. It would be something they would do, unless T is part of the three headed dragon, or has some other destiny. Please, I’d lose my shut.
Heck, some people have been waiting for a scene with Tyrion and Dragons for years (up close and personal, that is, not the I see a Dragon in the distance like last season), if not decades…LOL. Looks like the show is going to give it to us…
But assuming Rickon is at Last Hearth – if the Smalljon is immoral why hasn’t he just handed Rickon over to the Boltons?
If the Umbers march with the Boltons then they’ll be the turn cloaks ready to turn on the Boltons during the battle.
I wonder if Yara and Theon will take Victarion’s place….I won’t miss Victarion, I’m just concerned about Yara and Theon — will this drastically change their storylines? Problem is that we really don’t know what they’re going to do in the next novel, so we have no way of judging if it is really a drastic change or not.
Having Theon with Dany and Tyrion would be amazing.
They’re gonna have a lot of bodies to burn after the Battle of the Bastards lmao.
wizardeyes: If the Umbers march with the Boltons then they’ll be the turn cloaks ready to turn on the Boltons during the battle.
Not necessarily. It is more probable that their plan would be to turn on the Boltons
the battle. After all, as big of a problem as the Boltons are, the Wildlings historically have been a much bigger problem. And the Umbers would probably think that they need the Boltons to help defeat the Wildlings.
Real history is littered with this sort of thing happening. Just look at WWII: the US, UK and USSR spent the last two years of the war not just working to defeat Germany, but to then take on the USSR or US/UK afterwards.
I thought the other one is the one that’s gold-colored, with the “pools of molten gold”, no? LOL
Total fun. Can’t wait to see how the Bran/BR/CotF/WW dynamic unfolds, especially BR’s ultimate agenda. No way is Bran safe at weirnet central, or in his visions. Damn, the northern stories are going to be extremely interesting.
mariamb: That’s probably correct. So I will ask again: why release it without any hype?
heh, the point of a commercial is to generate “hype” for a product: one does not “hype” commercials themselves! Now, commercials and trailers have started to get “hyped” because of sites like this. (I think that this started with Phantom Menace 17 years ago.) However, that is from pre-existing fandoms amplifying the hype into it’s own hype. So, I guess that is sort of hype squared or residual hype or the Great Pumpkin or something like that….
The real answer is probably that the writers were probably not sure the Umbers would feature much later. From another point of view, perhaps the Smalljon didn’t want to give up a bargaining chip so soon.
I think you’re setting yourself up for disappointment if that’s the case. It’s a hope based entirely almost on the books.
Hoyti Von Totiy: Why would Bran leave his “friend” Blackraven unless …:
There are several alternative hypotheses. One, Bran might be riding a horse in a vision. (There was no indication that he was “crippled”: and the fact that he is crippled means that he cannot easily ride a horse.) Two, if he is really riding a horse, then perhaps it is because the WW have sacked that Old God’s sanctuary. Who knows, perhaps the NK grabbing Bran is linked to their ability to invade. Of course, it could be that Bran is seeing this through the eyes of someone in the past, and the NK grabbed that person, too.
In other words, there are so many possible explanations for what we’ve seen that to conclude anything other than the very basics (Bran will experience interactions with the NK, see himself on a horse, etc.).
I wonder if Yara and Theon will take Victarion’s place….I won’t miss Victarion, I’m just concerned about Yara and Theon — will this drastically change their storylines?Problem is that we really don’t know what they’re going to do in the next novel, so we have no way of judging if it is really a drastic change or not.
I think the Yara kiss in the first trailer was happening in Essos, so yep on the Yara (Asha) and probably Theon taking the Victarion storyline.
All praise be to Manu! Great work bringing us these exciting images! I am beyond happy that finally the first awesome picture of my boy Drogon has surfaced! He looks like a boss and such a cool image.
And of course, Tyrion meeting his other “nephews” for the first time! 😀
The Drowned Goddess:I’m not doubting the authenticity, just wondering how, if you can pause, rewind, replay, and take photos, why not rewind and play, and record?
AND he says he’s too lazy to write about the dialogue between the High Sparrow and Tommen? That sounds all very strange to me… maybe Manu isn’t just an innocent watcher ;-). Smells like a nice marketing coup by HBO to me.
I could see the show version being: -Yara + Theon attend Kingsmoot, lose to Euron
-They flee across the Narrow Sea, hear about Dany, go to join her, hoping she will help them overthrow Euron
-Flees North, gets captured and reunited with Theon, and plans to return to the Islands with Theon to re-press her claim
Those two plots seem to map onto each other well enough. Defeat, exile, return; the show version just puts the Victarion plot into Yara’s exile period, at the cost of cutting her Stannis plot.
This is the key. We are not sure that Rickon is with the Umbers.

Yep, it’d be a way of collapsing the two plots into one and giving it to characters the audience already knows rather than introducing a brand new character (ie Victarion)
I think that is also possible that in the show it will be Yara’s idea to go to Dany. They will find some reason. To save hers and Theon’s life? To find powerful allies against Euron?
I still don’t think that we will see a dragon horn in the show.
The Drowned Goddess: Also, regarding my first comment, I’m not doubting the authenticity, just wondering how, if you can pause, rewind, replay, and take photos, why not rewind and play, and record? Unless he had a Poloroid or old school camera…
My favorite are the people mad at me that I didn’t take a video in my sleepy haze watchersonthewall.com/mysterious-new…
George: Yep, it’d be a way of collapsing the two plots into one and giving it to characters the audience already knows rather than introducing a brand new character (ie Victarion)
I agree. And this will be the case when the show will be more powerful than the books. Introducing Vic in S6 and sending him to Dany wouldn’t do anything for the audience.
But Yara, and Theon there? It will be powerful and memorable. It will show that everything is really coming together in the show.
I think it will be yet another great change from the books.
I thanked him on twitter, but in case he’s reading: Thank you so much, Manu!!! You are awesome for doing this for a desperate fandom!!
afeastfordances: and plans to return to the Islands with Theon to re-press her claim
Interesting possible sync with Theon/Yara but that last “book” bit is pure speculation, assuming Stannis does indeed perish by betrayal or Bolton/Frey attacks and T & Y indeed escape alive during the chaos.
I think that in the scene with HS Jaime will finally find out about Cersei’ affair with Lancel.
I also think that the reason why we saw cCesrei and Jaime so close in the trailer is because D&D want to show their “good times” before their break-up. The last time they were close was S4E10 and that was long ago for general audience.
and it looks like they have equipped him with a GoPro, as well!
cosca: I think you’re setting yourself up for disappointment if that’s the case. It’s a hope based entirely almost on the books.
Jon tells Stannis that if he (Stannis) has Wildlings in his army, then the Umbers will attack Stannis’ army regardless of what Stannis says that his intentions are.
As for the show not mentioning things because they were not sure if actors would re-appear, that would not be the reason. The showrunners know that the audience is not going to remember minor characters for any length of time. So, who they mention in passing is not that important: if a conversation needs names of off-screen minor characters, then it’s pretty much all the same to the audience.
Hodors Bastard: assuming Stannis does indeed perish by betrayal or Bolton/Frey attacks and T & Y indeed escape alive during the chaos.
I would be surprised if they do not escape. After all, GRRM went to a lot of pain to get not one, but two PoV characters into Stannis camp: and two that would not feel obliged to go down with the ship (a la Davos). This way we can read about it without GRRM needing yet another PoV character.
mau: This is the key. We are not sure that Rickon is with the Umbers.
We have no reason to suspect otherwise. That is where they were headed when last we saw Osha & Bran: and that makes this idea vastly more probable than any other.
I still don’t think that we will see a dragon horn in the show.
I thought the horn was out for a long time, but with the Ironborn mission to Dany seemingly back on, albeit modified, something about that whole plotline must be sufficiently important to the endgame to make it into the show, seeing as Asha and Theon are rather unlikely to be journeying there in the book. It’s not the ships (after the number of ships in Dany’s fleet in Season 4 caused a lot of us to conclude the whole Ironborn thing was off entirely), and it can’t have anything to do with Victarion’s personality, seeing as Yara and Theon are very different characters (and neither of them are going to want to marry Dany, which is what Victarion wants). That would seem to leave us with the dragonhorn.
The horn is some unclear part of Euron’s plan in the books. Euron’s in the show. So is Sam’s Oldtown plot, which a lot of people have speculated will dovetail with this particular magic story in some way.
George: If this is after the Wildlings find out about Jon getting killed, I foresee a short lifespan for Alliser Thorne and his cohorts…maybe they come in to help Davos while he’s fending them off with Longclaw…LOL
It’s night time when Wun Wun is busting through the gate, so I’d bet this happens while Jon is still dead. I hope he pulls apart some ‘brothers’ limb from limb like he did the wights at Hardhome.
I set the DVR to record both NCAA games tonight. I’ll fast forward through all of it later tonight. That’s about 6 hours worth – I hope the promo airs. *fingers crossed*
Yes, I thought of that Reddit post when I read the line in the EW article. Things that make me go “hmmmm”.
I think that in the scene with HS Jaime will finally find out about Cersei’ affair with Lancel
I think this makes a lot of sense and would partly explain why after this (episode 6?) He forgets his “it’s us against the world and we’re getting it all back” speech in the trailer and he goes off away from her into the “show version” of the Riverrun Siege plot in eps 7 & 8 (presumably at the behest of Kevan Lannister?)
Yes. I think that Jaime will feel very stupid for saying that after this scene. It will make him even more angry.
Danys position of power even though she’s female will be desirable to Yara after the kingsmoot..
Re- Ban I wonder if being in vision state makes him able to be sensed by other weird beings. So NK could be able to insert himself in Bran’s visions. Bran is able to interact with BR in his visions. Kind of like having your vision hacked.
Can someone please explain to me how the NK is grabbing Bran’s arm.
mau: I think that in the scene with HS Jaime will finally find out about Cersei’ affair with Lancel.
Oh! That’s gonna burn! Jaime abandons her, goes off, perhaps Tommen dies, and
, Cersei goes totally mad. Sets fire to KL. That would be a good arc for her this season.
edit: lol i kept rewatching instead of posting. DROGON!!!
Eeeeeeeeee!!!!! Off to watch it 30 times in slow mo before HBO takes it down.
Thank you sooooo much! I can’t understand what HS is saying to Tommen!
But KL being in S7, does not preclude the Red Keep, or parts of the city from burning. In her vision, Daenerys visited KL and the Keep, though it was just a burnt-out husk. It will probably sustain horrible damage, but barely survive.
Is Drogon following the Dothraki when they have Daenerys captive? And does she know sonny boy is keeping watch from the sky? 😀
I’m hoping that, if Theon actually gains power, he will arrive with help during the last minutes of Snowbowl. At least some Ironborn must be pissed at the Boltons for flaying several of them.
Shit the NK not just touch bran’s arm he grabs it no wonder why the boy is terrified.
I’m glad many people were recording it so we’ll habe it in great quality in a few.
What’s wrong with you people? Here it is, this guy does this very nice thing for the fandom and you’re trying to attach something sinister to his efforts.
I for one have been following his tweets since last night and for most of the day today.
Holy crap that shot of Drogon looks awesome.
Since the visual effects guys said the dragons will double in size this season (Emilia said the same thing), I wonder if that means they will have their “adult” scales. In the season 5 commentary D&D said Drogon was injured in the pit because he doesn’t have his impenetrable adult scales yet. I mean, doubling in size is a pretty serious growth spurt. I inagine that growth spurt would include thicker scales.
I’m having a hard time understanding HS too. Best I can make out, it’s “We are sinful creatures. We deserve death. We all kill.” But I’m not 100% about a few words, especially ‘sinful.’
Brienne definitely saves at least Theon from the Bolton soldiers. He is on the far right side of the screen when she hacks at the guy on a horse.
LOL, Wun Wun destroys those CB gates. He is pissed. Can’t wait!
Poor Theon has tears running down his cheeks. Still can’t make out who is standing in front of him. But it’s most likely Yara.
Is that King’s Guard at the ToJ taking on 3 of Ned’s men. Holy moly!
“We are all sinful creatures, we all deserve death. We all kill.”- High Sparrow
“One way or another, The Gift will be given; one way or another a new face will be added to the Hall”-Jaqen
Oh, and the first part of Tyrion’s “great game” thingy is new “Are you afraid, you should be…”
The Dragon POV shots look very nice, even with low resolution, LOL.
Thank you thank you – to everyone who captured for us crazies!
I freaking detest basketball, so sitting here watching is torture. They’d better show it again >_>
But KL being in S7, does not preclude the Red Keep, or parts of the city from burning.
I don’t think that burning only RK serves much purpose in the story. And D&D said that that scene from S7 was intended to be in the throne room, so no, even RK won’t burn in S6.
Because the Night King has the greensight just like Bran and Jojen. They can communicate with each other.
Will Castle Black be totally torn apart by Wun Wun’s wrath? Everyone who was against Jon torn from limb to limb? I so hope he makes it to the end of the series!
I think by the time he shows up again his scales will be impenetrable yeah. But regardless, he’ll show up at Vaes Dothrak and they can’t carry any sword there. He’ll do some serious damage there if, as expected, he shows up. Unlike against the SoTH, there the Dothraki won’t have anything to hurt him. We’re going to witness the biggest barbecue yet this season lol
Can anyone tell if the Dothraki horde are looking up at Drogon?
I’m actually veryyy pleasantly surprised about the Nights King grabbing Bran’s arm. I really did figure that they were just making it look like he saw Bran, without it actually being true. I didn’t think I could get any more excited for 24 April, and yet here I am. Thanks, Manu!
“In some way” being that both stories have a dragonhorn….
As far as what it means for these storylines, I agree. Since they decided to include Sam’s trip to Oldtown, I feel his story has to include the mysticism of the dragon horn, and hopefully the dragon glass candles.
Thats some huge shadow, they might have seen him. Its too fast though to figure out which were their reactions. The horses should freak out.
You see!! He does look doubled in size! 😀
Wun Wun must be pissed! Maybe he really liked Jon Snow and got pissed about him being killed by his “fellow” Night’s Watch “brothers”.
Cant wait to see Wun Wun kick some more ass! GET HYPE.
I wonder is they aren’t showing Drogon fully close up because they want to save how big he is for the Season.
Rygritte: I would do anything for GoT, but I won’t do that.
In the beginning with that quick clip of Tyrion drinking wine, is that Grey Work in the room with him?
I hope they play this before Vinyl on Sunday night.
In the books, wasn’t Victarion Greyjoy attacking Mereen by the end of book 5? So, for the Ironborn storyline this season, the first part could be the kingsmoot. You know, meet the new characters, do the kingsmoot itself, and some more character building. This would be super cool, and after all the Battle of Slavers bay stuff is over and IF Daenerys beats the ironborn or makes some sort of alliance with them, she would have tons of ships for travelling to Westeros.
The scene with the ships and the stormy night looks like it’s Euron arriving at the II. The other scene in the trailer has him taking his hood off and it’s dark and storming on the rope bridge.
After seeing Drogon moving in that amazing shot, he does look bigger. We need more dragons this season lol.
Wun Wun crashing gates of CB seems interesting. Wildlings will hear about Jon and make quick work with nationalists. Hopefully we’re not going to spend more episodes with Thorne, what to do with Wildlings and this stuff. Jon needs to be resurrected fairly early on. They cab spend one episoded with all the tension between loyalists and nationalists resulting in Thoenr and co killed. Seems like Wildlings care about Jon and not gonna be happy about it.
Umbers siding with Boltons makes sense beacuse of wildlings but real question is if they’re gonna betray Starks and hand Rickon to Boltons.
Bran’s mother grabbed him in an earlier green dream.
Connor: After seeing Drogon moving in that amazing shot, he does look bigger.
Wasn’t it just a short while ago that he had just hatched, and stood on Daenerys’ shoulder, fluffing up his little wings and screaming at the Dothraki in Season 1? 😀 Well, Drogon meets the Dothraki again in Season 6!
Is it just my imagination or that giant is a white?Look at the cold blue snow behind him, just like hardhome when the whyte-walker apeared in the house were jon was..
Like i said it was not a trailer. A tv spot or promo as you like.
Thanks to everyone for all their hard work! There are three other images from the new footage which you don’t have screen shots of at the moment (Dany, Cersei and Tyrion). They are from the end bit where it all goes by really fast. I only got them by watching it on 1/4 speed (which you can set it to play at on Youtube) and hitting pause repeatedly. They are
here, but feel free to stick them into the post if you’d like too 😀
I wonder how much bigger Drogon will be than Rhaegal and Viserion. The books make it clear that a dragon kept in confined places will not grow as big as a dragon out in the wild or one who is able to fly freely. I wonder if the show will stick to that.

There’s also the bit in the beginning with Tyrion drinking wine and looks like Grey Worm in the room with him.
It’s probably Sam and Gilly traveling on a ship to Oldtown.
Geralt of Rivia: Umbers siding with Boltons makes sense beacuse of wildlings but real question is if they’re gonna betray Starks and hand Rickon to Boltons.
The US felt no obligation to share the A-bomb with the Soviets while they were allies against the Germans. Why would the Umbers feel any obligation to give Rickon to the Boltons?
Geralt of Rivia: Hopefully we’re not going to spend more episodes with Thorne, what to do with Wildlings and this stuff. Jon needs to be resurrected fairly early on
These are two separate issues. Yes, Jon needs to be revived by the beginning of Episode 2. However, they do not need to have the Nationalist vs. Loyalist issue resolved then. There is a lot that they could do to drive Jon’s portion of the story if he is on the lam from the Night Watch, and if part of what Jon has to overcome during the season is the stigma of being both traitor and deserter.
It’s probably Sam and Gilly traveling on a ship to Oldtown.
It matched up perfectly with Euron taking his hood off. I think it was Euron’s ship Silence.
That really looks like what we’ve seen as the main gate to Castle Black in that Wun Wun shot, so…is he breaking down TWO gates this season or what?
I just hope Wun Wun doesn’t become to Jon Snow what the eagles were to the Lord of the Rings protagonists.
The shot that hyped me the most was the Night’s King grabbing Bran’s arm. It sure looked like he saw Bran in the last trailer, so this seems to confirm that, along with the added revelation that, not only can he be detected, he can also be touched…which when we’re talking Game of Thrones means he can also be hurt.
Holy crap, you’re right! Oh man, sh*t’s about to get real in Castle Black.
Jack Bauer 24, Thanks for that! As people had mentioned it in the comments I forgot there wasn’t a screen shot. I’ll stick it on with the others 😀
Edit: no I won’t it won’t let me add an image once I’ve shared them and is telling me I have to wait an hour before I can upload another image. Unfortunately it’s 2.30am here and I really have to go to bed, but at least that Tyrion shot is in the normal speed section at the beginning of the trailer so people can see it fairly easily.
Night all catch up with you tomorrow 😀 zzzzzz
In season 3, Catelyn also grabbed Bran and even pushed him of the tree. Jojen also interacted with Bran and supposedly also could touch himt. I think he’s safe in his visions.
Wimsey: The US felt no obligation to share the A-bomb with the Soviets while they were allies against the Germans. Why would the Umbers feel any obligation to give Rickon to the Boltons?
That’s a good point, but I feel like the Umbers are not going to be that involved in the story. Also, how would they feel about having to fight the Mormonts and the Hornwoods? If they wanted to destroy the Wildlings during the battle, wouldn’t that mean that the other houses get wiped out too?
I make is out as “We’re all sinful creatures. We deserve death. We all do.”
I was thinking The white one for Jon, which left the green on for Tyrion … or as you suggest, someone else entirely (Bran?)
I just really REALLY want Tyrion to ride a dragon
That’s definitely Castle Black gates. And if I remember correctly…
When the report hit about a giant smashing through the Winterfell gates after the battle, Jon, Sansa, Littlefinger, Ramsay are present and the report was “the people inside have to fight it off.”
One, with this shot in the trailer, since I don’t think Wun Wun is coming to help Thorne kill Davos and Ghost we can make an educated guess that Wun Wun is probably on Jon’s side. So then, why would Wun Wun randomly smash through the Winterfell gates in what sounds like an all out attack on everyone inside and not jut one person (Ramsay) given the report “the people inside have to fight it off”?
Two, people can bash David and Dan for their writing all they want, but it’s wrong. They are good writers. This shot in the trailer is not something they’d repeat. If it was just plain old normal Wun Wun smashing through the Winterfell gates it’d be a direct copy of what’s in this trailer. What’s the point? They’re just not going to repeat the same plot line 8 or 9 episodes later. If he is to smash through two gates in one season, something significantly different the second time will happen.
I think it is Wight Wun Wun at Winterfell. I can’t come to any other conclusion. There are no other Giants. Why else would they have him repeat the same action twice in one season? Why would the “the people inside have to fight it off”?
Great stuff, obviously we see BR able to interact/touch Bran during the “Weir Tree” visions, so fascinating to see the NK is a bit like BR and able to do the same
Should give some fascinating insight as to whether there is a Weir Tree system in LoAW or if their magical systems criss-cross etc.
Could just be using the same Castle Black gate set for Winterfell?
Seems to be a lot of focus around Ramsay at the battle, instead of Roose. Could be that it is character driven, eg have Ramsay/JS rivalry arc, and a Rickon/Sansa rivalry arc. Though tbf I wouldn’t be surprised if Rickon gets killed because a) nothing is ever straightforward with ASOIF/GoT and b) Rickon death sets up a rivalry between JS and Sansa and the North and the RL
I’ve been watching GoT repeats (for the umpteenth time!) on Sky Atlantic on which HBO airs its programs for the UK (I live in Spain btw) and so far seen ‘Jack Squat’ regarding trailers or teasers for S6. This evening they showed S4 episodes 06/07.
I don’t know if HBO has its own channel in the USA or puts out its shows on other networks? However, I reckon its piss-poor that still nothing has appeared on Sky Atlantic
I want to see this stuff on a BIG TV screen and not on a 19″ PC flat screen monitor 😉
I’m still at a loss as to why HBO doesn’t release it now.
WQhy cant he smash through 2 gates?…he’s a giant ffs…what better use can a giant be than a battering ram First he bashes down the cb gates because the wildlings are on jons side…cuz he saved them…then when they go south for the botb he goes with them obviously and ends up smashing wf gates
The first will prolly be in episode one…the second in episode 9
I think the white one for Tyrion. Viserion is actually cream colored and gold, with eyes like molten gold. Also, when his egg cracked in the pyre, Dany heard a roar. That all points to Tyrion. If Jon gets a dragon, I imagine it would be more fitting if he got the one named after his father. I prefer Bran as Rhaegal’s rider though.
But why would Wun Wun need to smash CB’s gates? He’s already inside. Are you saying he somehow leaves CB, they lock him out, and then he comes back to smash the gate in?
In show-canon the wildlings and Wun Wun headed south of CB to the Gift in ep. 509.
The truly mysterious element in this video, to me, was the ghostly figure who kept appearing in what looked like a modern room, peering through what appeared to be binoculars. Took me a while to figure out that it was the reflection in the TV screen of the guy filming the trailer off his TV set!
I thought the same thing! At least that’s what I’m really hoping.
Tyrion riding a dragon all Atreyu style needs to happen. Also something about Rhaegal’s green coloring and his name make him my favorite dragon I’ve decided. 😀
But why would Wun Wun need to smash CB’s gates? He’s already inside. Are you saying he somehow leaves CB, they lock him out, and then he comes back to smash the gate in?
And before anyone says how would he know what happened to js. Maybe bran saw it through ghost then warged into wun wun.
they say those giants are as dumb as hodor right?
And what happens to Ghost if Jon gets one of the dragons, that’s what I wonder. if the price for Jon getting a dragon is Ghost dying I don’t want it to happen. Better the other two dragons go to Tyrion and Bran.
And why should bran have summer hodor and a dragon too
I thought that was the latest side plot, that it was all the dream of some guy on a couch.
LOL Me. I recorded 6 hours of NCAA tournaments in the hopes of catching the promo ‘cuz I wanted to watch it in HD. I spent 20 minutes fast-forwarding through all that nonsense only to come up empty. I saw plenty of commercials for Batman vs. Superman, The Junglebook, and even The Walking Dead, but no GoT.
The best I can figure is that the promo is only playing in certain regions. The guy who uploaded it to YT appears to be in Southern CA. I’m in Northern CA. I wonder where the other people who’ve seen the promo live. Whatever’s going on, I’m done watching TBS programming. The YT video will have to be enough for now.
Are we sure that Theon makes it through? That looks like it could be Ramsay with his hand on Theon’s shoulder while he’s crying.
That’s why its better that dragons belong with someone who actually did something’s to bring them to life and suffered losses of the lives of her own husband child and brother ..
That’s why its better that dragons belong with someone who actually did something’s to bring them to life and suffered losses of the lives of her own husband child and brother ..it’s fair right
Thank you, Manu, for finding this and sharing with the WOTW community!
could be pod consoling him cuz he thought he was going back to ramsay till Brienne intervened
It is different. He’s not going to be physically able to fly a dragon. He will be able to fly by possessing its mind.
Can someone please transcribe what are they saying in the trailer?
I hate the idea of warging a dragon….you see warging is not mutal …control taken over one unwillingly. Whereas the dragonbonding is a mutual…both dragon and dragon rider have their bond….you see the effects of warging on hodor..there is only one who has bonded with them since they are eggs ..and still have that bond.
“We are all sinful creatures, we all deserve death. We all kill.”- High Sparrow
“One way or another, The Gift will be given; one way or another a new face will be added to the Hall”-Jaqen
Oh, and the first part of Tyrion’s “great game” thingy is new “Are you afraid, you should be…”
I thought it was Brienne looking for more damn candles!
I believe Tormund talks first with “Are you afraid, you should be …”
I’m also surprised by Drogon … he looks bigger … maybe it will take some time to find his mother.
You may be right! Actually, that’s what I heard the first few times I watched it, too. But then I started to hear a distinct “K” sound. But I’m far from certain about it. I’d buy either version, and yours makes more sense.
Hopefully we’ll get a better version and the words will be easier to make out!
With tyrions dialogue in both trailers, its obvious to me that he can only be talking to dany
I guess the third one may not be Bran, though he’s the one most often mentioned outside of Jon.
El-Bobbie: on 5 commentary D&D said Drogon was injured in the pit
dragons skin isn’t impenetrable. in the books many are killed with arrows to the body and they were huge adults. You have watched too much the hobbit.
Big thanks Manu – a man appreciates this endeavour.
I’m most excited for ToJ this season – the fact that it has featured in trailers suggests to me that it is going to be fairly prominent, as flashbacks go, and its significance played up to maximum.
Agree. “The great game” is the game of thrones, and there’s no one else around Tyrion who is a contender for the throne. I’m curious as to when Dany and Tyrion reunite. I hope it’s not till the very end.
hey…….I just thought of who could be the 3rd and why….theon…because after he gets back to the iron islands and after the kingsmoot…..yara and theon steal eurons horn and hi tail it to meereen……and theon get a dragon with his horn no not that horn….he lost that horn..
Very effective tv spot. We don’t need any more footage at this point
Can you tell me why you think it will be Rhaegel? I’m guessing the 2 dragons do have differences in personalities, in the books. How do Rhagael and Viserion (SP) differ?
Wonder where she’d take up residence if she sets fire to her home…
And before anyone says how would he know what happened to js.
Maybe bran saw it through ghost then warged into wun wun.
He can speak and is pretty much a person. Pretty sure bran cannot warg in him. Hodor is pretty much a moneky. Also why are people thinking that bran knows everything? It is obviously not how it works.
The trailer (not this new commercial) is on HBONow here in the states.
Thanks to people who got the stills and the video to us netizens. Now all I need is the episode titles and I’ll be happy to wait until the premiere.
One way or another, the Gift will be given–one way or another the new video will be posted to the Internet.
Yes, which is why Thorne and co. were short-sighted fools for killing the LC after the Wildlings were let through. Jon was the only one they would have even a modicum of trust and respect for there at the moment so what did the NW think would happen when they got rid of the middle man? Was there plan maybe to play it off, act all nicey-nice and then slaughter as many Wildlings as they could?
bran is the 3 eyed raven now….he knows everything
I happened to see it when the hubs and I started a totally unrelated movie On Demand late last night.
it was probably his job to keep the ww’s at bay all these years…but now his mind is failing him….he needs someone to take over with a stronger mind than his…hence calling bran…if he can keep the ww’s at bay then that’s some pretty powerful shit….so i’m gueesing sooner or later bran will be able to do anything…he warged hodor as a r00kie…now he’s had his teachings….theres no reason he cant …they even said u have to be really powerful to do it

I’ve seen the trailer play before Vinyl the past few weeks on HBO GO. I also saw the trailer on HBO after a movie aired earlier this week. It was a shortened version though. It didn’t have the Davos bit at the end.
I don’t think that’s a Giant Wight. Aren’t those wildings behind it looking like they are about to charge with it?
I’m dreading this season now. If the Umbers hand Rickon to the Boltons….oh boy.
Loved Wun Wun’s shot and Bran with the WW. I hope we get Dark Sister.
Oh my, that Kingsguard in Targaryen armor is against 4 people if you pause it at the right time 😀
Are we sure that “You should be” is by Tyrion??
Imagine Theon makes a marriage proposal to Dany in return for the Iron Fleet, she accepts, she marries him, and then on their wedding night, she has an “oh shit” moment.
I’ve got one question regarding this whole plot. If Euron wins Kingsmoot, wouldn’t the Iron Fleet be under his control? In the books, the Iron Fleet is under Victarion’s control, but he doesn’t exist on the show and there has been no suggestion so far on the show that Yara controls the Iron Fleet. So if Yara and Theon were to go to Meereen, they have no fleet to offer her (except one or two ships on which they sail) so what sort of bargaining power will they have with Dany? “Give us your dragons because we offer you… two ships” ?? That doesn’t make sense.
But having said that, I do believe Yara and Theon will make it to Meereen. Tyrion and Theon have met before in Season 1. Through Theon, Tyrion would know everything that happened in Season 5 in Winterfell with Sansa and Ramsay. It’ll be interesting if Tyrion decides to rescue his wife, or doesn’t bother because they never loved each other anyway.
By the way, it would be good for Theon’s self-esteem to see all the Unsullied.
The wolves will come again: In the books, the Iron Fleet is under Victarion’s control, but he doesn’t exist on the show and there has been no suggestion so far on the show that Yara controls the Iron Fleet. So if Yara and Theon were to go to Meereen, they have no fleet to offer her (except one or two ships on which they sail) so what sort of bargaining power will they have with Dany? “Give us your dragons because we offer you… two ships” ?? That doesn’t make sense.
Well, didn’t she command like 30 ships in season two, who she always insisted would be loyal to her to the very end? It may not be Victarion’s Iron Fleet, which are about 90 ships, but it’s something. Besides, Dany already has the Meereenese Navy, which is composed of 93 ships (not a coincidence; it basically replaced the Iron Fleet for her in the show).
Also, I don’t think Yara and Theon will be “demanding” Dany’s dragons, unlike the soon-to-be-dead idiot that is Victarion. If Theon and Yara go East to meet Dany, I’m sure they’ll be offering an alliance, not a demand; we help you with your conquest of Westeros, you make us Lords/Kings of the Iron Islands.
In the books there are several differences in personality. From what I can remember:
– Rhaegal is more aggressive, and Selmy thinks he’s the more dangerous dragon. It took several days to chain him in the pyramid and he burned a lot of people in the process. – Viserion is a bit more attached to Dany than Rhaegal is, he’s always sitting on her shoulder (when he was smaller) and he seeks Dany a couple times when he’s visited in the pit. But at several points all 3 dragons have been able to sense Dany’s moods or worries.
– There’s several instances of Viserion and Rhaegal fighting, so maybe foreshadowing of their riders fighting.
Victarion and his plot is off the show imho, I don’t think we need yet another character to go to Essos, I’d rather have all the ones in Essos come to Westeros. Plus, i don’t want Euron’s election to be legit, but that plot too will probably be left out of the show.
do we think the Nights King will speak to Bran?
I don’t like the idea of anyone using a horn to control a dragon or warging one. That Dany’s line “a dragon is not a slave” is too strong, and both horn and warging don’t sound as if the dragon and dragon rider would have any kind of bond, the dragon would just be manipulated and I hate that idea.
There’s another possibility. Ramsay kills Tormund in battle (or burns him on the cross) and Wun Wun sees it. Wun Wun is technically a wildling so Tormund is his leader. Now Wun Wun wants revenge on Ramsay.
But Euron is going to be on the show, and his main thing is that he wants the throne, with Dany as his queen and her dragons. To do that he sends Victarion to retrieve her. If the show eliminated Victarion then there HAS to be some other way for Euron to send after Dany. I think Theon and Yara are the likely contenders for that task.
George: I think this makes a lot of sense and would partly explain why after this (episode 6?) He forgets his “it’s us against the world and we’re getting it all back” speech in the trailer and he goes off away from her into the “show version” of the Riverrun Siege plot in eps 7 & 8 (presumably at the behest of Kevan Lannister?)
Or maybe the conversation with the High Sparrow takes part much earlier in the season, during Myrcella’s funeral and is the “We can overthrown an empire” speech from the trailer. Also, it won’t be hard for Jaime to learn about Lancel. The whole King’s Landing knows and Cersei will have to explain about the haircut and the whole Sparrows thing to him when he arrives back.
So many of our favorites looking hassled and haggard except that sob Ramsay. Cannot imagine the demise planned for him.
I keep coming back to the idea that there are 2 giants.
In season 3 when Grenn and company kills the giant in the tunnel at Castle Black – Jon tells Sam to “burn all the bodies” when he leaves to “chat” with Mance Radar, who was big enough to burn a giant?
Wun Wun will break down the gate at Castle Black and Mike the Mighty (now a WW) will break down the gate at Winterfell in the finale.
