If Game of Thrones is known for one thing, it\'s death. By now, we\'re familiar with George R.R. Martin\'s sadistic pen as it ends beloved character\'s lives in a fell swoop, and similarly used to seeing our favorite actors in the HBO series with their throats cut, their faces smooshed in, and their bodies thrown down mountainsides.
to grieve - what about the Game of Thrones cast, whose characters had relationships with the now-deceased? To celebrate the release of Game of Thrones Season 4 on DVD and Blu-ray, we asked actors Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), Carice van Houten (Melisandre), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei) and John Bradley (Samwell Tarly) which dead character they miss the most.
spoilers ahead for Game of Thrones Seasons 1 through 4.
Tywin Lannister, without a doubt. That scene where he’s skinning the deer – in the second or first season, I forget which – it’s incredible. And so I guess I do miss his character quite a bit. I’m trying to think who else...oh, Ned Stark. How can you not miss Ned Stark? But then, there’s always new characters being brought in. That’s what makes me feel like a fan. I have my own image of how I picture these characters, and then the actor walks into the room and I think – oh god, that’s so much better.
Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) and Carice van Houten (Melisandre)
Cunningham: Yes, I’ll never forget what’s-his-name.
I still really miss Robb Stark. He was in many ways, the male character in the show that I think probably had the most public support. Just because he’s fighting for his family, he’s fighting to avenge wrong-doing. He just wants to get his family back, he doesn’t want to be dictated to or fit into that political system. He just wants to be with the woman he loves. And I think when you see characters – especially in a fantasy series – with such modest desires, who want to fly in the face of the status quo and just be true to themselves – people establish a real connection with characters like that.
That’s so difficult. I feel like I really miss Pedro Pascal’s character (Oberyn). He was just this…sexy prince, and he is definitely kind to the eye, is our Pedro. So I wouldn’t mind him being back dancing around with a spear!
I miss Catelyn – my mum! I really miss her. She was such a great character and she was both loved and hated by many of the fans. She wasn’t a good guy, but she wasn’t a bad guy either. She was just – she was a woman with her own faults, and beautifully played by Michelle Fairley. And I would do anything to have her back.
