I hear so many people complain about how modern Disney movies ridicule the older ones, but Enchanted is the only one that really rubs me the wrong way with this. I just feel like Giselle is such a disrespectful parody of the original DPs, plus I don't like the idea of a primarily live-action character being a part of the lineup.
Well, it's time for Giselle to go. I like her but she's definitely won't match the DP lineup as she's mostly appear as a live action character, she doesn't end up as a princess but a career woman instead, and also she's just a mix up of the classics + Ariel.
Anyway, I'm going with Eilonwy because the others just fit better.
That means, no Elsa, no Moana, no Giselle.
Of course, the current lineup is fine the way it is.
So I exclude based on "falling in love" being used as a form of "shaming," and hearing the same stupid line over and over.
Disney forced Merida into the lineup to make up for the fact that it was a PIXAR movie, and because Disney thought PIXAR was their holy grail before Frozen became a phenomenon. Sure. You can decide that "ridicule" isn't deserved for excluding something. But don't ask me to vote any differently than I do.
I'm curious though wavesurf, how you feel about Enchanted and Giselle? Do you feel that it was also a parody of classic Disney tropes the way Frozen is?
Elsa had a lot of *um, nerve* calling out her sister for "racing into a romance," when she blocked her sister out of her life for years at the advice of stupid parents--- but the first real instruction Elsa gives her sister is---- "You can't marry a man you just met!" I find it ironic that you've sat in a room for the last ten or twenty years avoiding ALL people, not just men. And the first thing about life you say to your sister is --- avoid a man you just met.
Plus, Disney made Hans the skeaviest, EASIEST douchebag to spot in a million years--- because if Elsa had said that about "a Prince Phillip or Prince Eric-like character," the whole thing would have made her look like a loon.
As I said, I don't love when Disney opts to "diss me" with their pandering to an audience that loves to "ridicule characters." Parodies have their place, but Frozen is SATIRE, just the way Enchanted is. In my opinion, unless Disney Incorp. intends to scrap what Walt Disney gave us in Snow White and Cinderella, they better not put in Elsa.
