"No other advanced nation was as unprepared for the pandemic as was the US." Honestly it's inexcusably embarrassing. This is what happens when someone who isn't qualified to do so runs a country.

"In no other nation have such sub-governments been forced to bid against each another." And this is what happens when your government is unapologecally corrupt as shit.

"Elsewhere around the world, governments are providing generous income support. Not in the US." & "Of the $350bn originally intended for small businesses, $243.4m has gone to large, publicly held companies." Are we been knew statements. This is what happens when capitalism becomes corporatism. Trump is a business man alright. You can tell because he puts the big name companies ahead of small/family businesses and the general public.

"The coronavirus has been especially potent in the US because America is the only industrialized nation lacking universal healthcare." Also been knew. Our healthcare is a joke. I tend to wait until I'm deeply sick before going to get help. I gotta make sure I'm actually sick before wasting the money. And even if I am sick sometimes I'll weather it out because it's not that serious.

"America is also the only one of 22 advanced nations failing to give all workers some form of paid sick leave. " More corrupt capitalist bullshit. If capitalism hadn't shifted into whatever the hell you call what we have, this might not be an issues.

"But the calamity is also due to America’s longer-term failure to provide its people the basic support they need." And boom! There it is, the root of the problem. If a country can't provide basic needs in regular times, then it sure as hell can't during crisis times.

Sometimes I wonder how America is still considered advanced country; especially when it comes to healthcare. It truly is embarrassing.
