Edible cones have been mentioned in French cooking Bücher as early as 1825, Julien Archambault describes a cone where one can roll "little waffles". Another printed reference to an edible cone is in Mrs A. B. Marshall’s Cookery Book, written in 1888 Von Agnes B. Marshall (1855–1905) of England. HISTORY OF ICE CREAM

The origins of ice cream can be traced back to at least the 4th century B.C. Early references include the Roman emperor Nero (A.D. 37-68) who ordered ice to be brought from the mountains and combined with Obst toppings, and King Tang (A.D. 618-97) of Shang, China who had a method of creating ice and milch concoctions. Ice cream was likely brought from China back to Europe. Over time, recipes for ices, sherbets, and milch ices evolved and served in the fashionable Italian and French royal courts.

The History of Breyers Ice Cream.

In 1866, as America recovered from the Civil War, William A. Breyer of Philadelphia hand-cranked his first gallon of ice cream. It was a special ice cream consisting of rich cream, pure cane sugar, fresh fruits, nuts and other natural flavors - some of the very same ingredients used today. He sold it to his neighbors with the promise that his ice cream was made the altmodisch way. Word spread quickly, and Breyers Ice Cream was soon declared Philadelphia's best.
