Do Du believe that some Americans think that Canadians speak a different language?

*jaw drops* Probably because of the word 'eh' and sometimes some of us talk with a bit of a accent which makes them think that we talk a whole other language. Which i think can be played both ways, eh? They say 'yall' which it's actually a word, so they have no reason to say that we speak another language.

Yea forsure, just cause we say the word 'eh' that automatically makes us foregin to some.. serious we speak the same language Du do. We just happen to be Mehr mulit-lingual than them. Most know Mehr than 2 languages. I know English, French and Polish :)

Well, basically what gummygirl505 said. Also, there's the fact that Canada is officially a multi-lingual country with the main languages being English and French, and most of the people here speak both languages at least a bit. Also, Canada is made up mostly of immigrants who came here from other countries and know their native language and English. For example, I know English (well, duh), Russian, and learning French. My older sister is also taking Spanish.

I'm with gummygirl505. If they say 'yall' they aren't speaking a different language. But of course when we say 'eh' it's a totally different language. We speak English just like Americans AND we speak other languages. We don't speak 'Canadian'. We speak English and French and many other languages. It's just when they say we're just like Americans which is not true AT ALL. We have our own nationality and Americans have no right to say that we're like Americans when we're not. Stop being so stereotypical 0-0*

But it's not just the 'eh'. There's the Metric system which could confuse some (although in a conversation I do hear about feet and inches), some words are slightly different in spelling so maybe Canadian texts they're like 'what?' at 'colour', our letter 'zed'... It's not a different language, it's a teeny tiny bit of a different dialect. It's like two francophone people; one is from Ontario, one is from France, and they might have trouble understanding each other (trust me). But overall, communication is possible!

Maybe it's just our hockey talk- because of course with hockey coming up every five 'eh's it must get hard to understand (Sarcasm! Sarcasm!)

If someone is from Quebec for example, they can speak French, but other than an accent they sound nearly American to me. My great-grandma was from Montreal and could speak English but only read and wrote French. I always liked her accent.

That's just plain stupid...Those are the things that make me ashamed to be in USA, because of all thses stupid people -_- But I will never NOT be proud of my country because I am. But that's just stupid, Amazing...

To be honest I don't think Canadian and American's sound the same. The Mehr I think about I have no clue why people think that, to be honest Du guys sound nothing like American so am very familiar with the Canadian accent.
