Something was wrong. Very wrong.
Penny stared at her map at the edge of a Japanese forest with uncertainty, while Bolt lay at her feet on the wet grass. He sighed a deep, doggish sigh and shifted his paws into a Mehr comfortable position. Bolt and Penny had had a rough time of late.
It had been about three months since Penny’s father had been kidnapped Von the malicious Doctor Calico, oder the Green-Eyed Man, as Bolt knew him. Since then, Bolt and Penny have been on the run from Calico’s henchmen, not having a decent meal oder sleep for a while now.
“It’s not here, Bolt,” Penny sagte heatedly. “It’s not here at all!” Bolt sensed Penny’s anger, and sat up and placed his head on her lap. “What are we going to do, boy?” Penny had been gegeben a map that apparently revealed the location to one of Calico’s bases, on which Penny’s father was being held. She thought about it; who was it exactly who gave her that map in the first place? In her desperation, she’d forgotten to ask their name. Ah, she thought, what if it was a trap? It’s very likely, knowing Calico…
Bolt suddenly tensed.
“Bolt? What is it?” Penny stuttered. Surely she was just being paranoid, right? Bolt stood up quickly, his ears pricking in the direction of the wind. He sniffed the evening air with caution gleaming in his burgundy eyes. Gingerly, Penny followed Bolt, who was padding slowly towards a nearby bush. It rustled unusually fast in the calm breeze. Bolt placed one paw into the busch –
“Holy shit! Bolt!!” Penny yelled at the oben, nach oben of her voice as a jet-dressed henchman pounced out of the busch in a cat-like fashion onto Bolt. Bolt rolled over with force and clasped his jaws around the henchman’s wrist. Bolt growled deeply, lifted his head and twirled the helpless man round his head like a lasso, then let go and left him to fly off into the trees with a scream.
“Good work, buddy,” Penny said. “That was bloody close, I’ll tell you. This must be one of the bases then, if that guy was waiting in the busch on guard.” Bolt barked in approval and looked into the trees and beyond the horizon. The sun was setting fast, and time was running out. “C’mon,” Penny said, picking up her bag and slinging it over her back. “Lets go, Bolt. I’m sure we’ll find the base Von sunrise. Calico’s a Zeigen off; he’s bound to make his base large and intimidating to his other bad guy competition.”
Bolt and Penny trudged onwards through the thick foliation, with thoughts of Essen and a comfortable bett keeping them going. Penny listened to her iPod part of the way; she liked Tagträumen to the Musik and getting little mini films to play in her head according to what song she was listening to. She only gave up on this idea because she didn’t look where she was going during one very appealing and mind-shrouding daydream and walked straight into a massive, solid vine tree.
Bolt could amuse himself quite easily while trekking through the forest. There were so many mysterious and playful creatures he could chase and intimidate and bark at in the midst of the trees, and a world of smells to discover around him. He was quite happy to keep on walking forever, taking in the scene and environment around him. That was until they found it.
“Bolt… Look at it…” Penny sagte with tired frustration as they observed Calico’s hidden base.
As Penny had predicted, Calico’s base was vast in size, and seemed to be laughing in it’s own intimidating-base way. It was also virtually impenetrable.
Bolt thought about it. Why do I need to be worried? Bolt thought to himself in his head. Has Penny forgotten I’m a Super Dog? Bolt broke out into a trotting run up to the base. It was so thick from the outside that Calico probably thought he didn’t need henchmen outside it.
“Bolt, what are Du -?” Penny started, but Bolt interrupted her with an impatient bark. He spaced out his feet, stuck his tail up, pushed his ears behind his head and stared hard at the wall. Abnormal green lasers shot out of his eyes in a continuous stream, bleeding through the reinforced metal with extreme force. A ghostly green light emitted around the pair in the darkness of night, and Bolt moved his head round in a large circle. He blinked, and the lasers stopped.
“Well?” Penny sagte with a shrug. Bolt looked at her over his shoulder, then turned back again. Bolt stood up on his hind legs, then with a shaking might, slammed he ground with his front paws. A mini earthquake shook the ground and trees around them, and Penny tripped up. The force of the pound dislodged the cut in the metal wall, which came falling to the ground with a thunderous thud.
“Ah,” Penny said, getting up and dusting herself off. “Good thinking, boy.” Bolt barked again, which was his way of saying, “Yes. I think that was, thanks.”
Bolt led the way into Calico’s base. Inside, coldness spread over them in a wave, and an eerie darkness surrounded them. A row of limette, lime green flashes was the only lighting. Except for one thing. Another green light bobbed in mid air in the pitch blackness.
“Bolt… What’s that over there?” Penny whispered to her white Alsatian friend, who whimpered with fear. Suddenly, a horrible noise ripped through the air. A shrill, cackling laugh echoed around them, and Penny gasped; Bolt growled and the lights blazed as they clicked on around them. They flashed into existence in a massive kreis around the base, and just as the last one clicked on, Bolt and Penny realised what the mysterious green light was. It was the eye of Dr Calico.
“Penny!” Calico sagte in mock happiness. “How nice to see you!” He emphasised his sarcasm on the word ‘nice’. “And the pleasure it brings to see your sorrow when I tell Du your father is not even here!”
“What!?” Penny screamed. “No! Du effing liar! Where is my dad?”
“He’s not here, Du stupid girl!” Calico hissed with immorality. “He got exported to London yesterday! Guards!” Calico waved a hand at his cat-like henchmen waiting round the edge of the scene. “Seize them!”
All around them, about twenty oder so black-dressed henchmen crawled out of the shadows and crept round Penny and Bolt in a massive circle. They were trapped. oder so the henchmen thought…
“Bolt.” Penny sagte boldly. Bolt looked up at Penny with a determined expression across his white face. “Speak.”
Bolt turned to face the henchmen, who had gone pale with anxiety as to what he was going to do. Valiantly, Bolt placed one paw forward, and one foot back. Bolt dipped his head, growled deeply, then threw his head vorwärts-, nach vorn with an almighty earth-shocking bark. The ground rippled with the sonic volume, and the henchmen flew backwards at alarming speeds, coming to smash into the solid metal walls with a ghastly crunch of bones. Calico soared with them, his fall being broken Von the injured henchmen.
“Bolt!” Penny yelled at Bolt, and waved a hand frantically at the hole he had made in the exterior of the base. “Let’s get the bloody hell outta here!” Penny ran for it, and Bolt stayed for a moment, watching and making sure all the henchmen were down. When he was absolutely sure, he sped after Penny.
Bolt was even Mehr vigilant than usual, sensing the way the ground thudded as he pounded out of the base; the way the wind shredded his pelz as he ran; the suddenly amplified cries of the exotic Japanese birds as he disturbed their sleeping patterns.
“London, Bolt,” Penny sagte exhaustedly as they and Bolt found a nice open spot of land in the centre of the forest. Penny sighed deeply, then collapsed to the floor. She was so tired; she had to sleep. Bolt lay down beside her and let her run her fingers through his warm, soft, crystal-white fur. Bolt knew she needed a rest, if they were to travel to London to rescue her dad from certain peril. Bolt dozed off to sleep with Penny at his side, as the sun began to rise over the Japanese country. It had been a long day, and it was going to get worse.

Remember to read Part Two to find out whether Bolt and Penny manage to save Penny’s father once and for all!
