Well, if I am being nice to someone from the start and they are mean to me then why should I waste my time on them? But if I never knew that person and they just started being mean to me out of nowhere, then I would still ignore them.

I'm never outright horrid unless it's someone I know quite well, otherwise I tend to ask them why they are acting like they are or just leave their presence ASAP. But that's only if I'm in a slightly foul mood myself, otherwise I'll just try my best to be nice.

It really depnds on how long it has been happening and how often I deal with this person. Probably if it is an ongoing problem then I would just start to ignore them after awhile, but at first I would ignore their meaness and be nice to them hoping they would take a hint :)

I usually give them a chance, but when they don't give up I stop playing nice and use my acid-tongue.

well i ignore them because they dont deserve to waste my time on them , but if i know them and they are not usualy like that i walk talk to them and find out the problem

Useing a mean toungue doesn't really help you just keep snapping back and fourth till you don't know what your argueing about.

true, but I only use it for special occaisions. I generally just try to be extra-nice so they take the hint.

professionally im in sales and interact with all kind of different people all the time. Even if someone is not nice with me still i would have to be nice with them anyways.

But if someone gets rough i wont hesitate to call security on him ;)

kinda depends on the situation. well at work when people are rude to me I HAVE to be nice, so yeah.

I'm polite and indifferent, not cold. A girl once hated me for no reason and I'd always really liked her. So one day (before I knew she hated me) she posted on her blog that she was depressed so I told her she was a great person and that she had a wonderful energy about her (which is still true). Somehow that made me hate her more. And then her best friend told me she hated me. I just shrugged it off and stopped trying to befriend her. Somehow, this still made her angry. I realized nothing I could do would make her happy so I really stopped caring after that.

I like to stay nice, the conflict gets solved faster.

I'm more like a sarcastic jackass.

i'm actually incapable of getting mad.. people have tried, but I came to the conclusion that I never get angry...I get hurt/annoyed, but never angry.

I'm always nice to anyone I meet, it's a respect thing. But if you do something to lose my respect, I'll still be polite, but not friendly.

You may set an example from being nice back to the person even if they were mean to you back.

If someone's mean to me, I simply ignore them intill they're ready to be nice.. If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.. (Yes, it would be better to be nice and set a good example, but sometimes if they're extremley mean, you'll end up blowing up at them, and maybe they're just being mean because they want the attention.)

I try to use long words because for some reason they just don't understand it!!! I try to be polite and nice as much as I can!!! I don't like being mean to people!

My goal is to "Be EXTRA nice, they may learn from the example"

I try to show them that I'd like to be ignored, too... unfortunately they don't really get it

Or 'Be polite, but still cold to them'. I tend to use a lot or sarcasm when my mood is bad. =P Otherwise, I ignore them sometimes.
