Barnabas and Julia--Love Du Forever

susanleabartelt What was wrong with the writers of this show? They knew what the viewers wanted!# It was so frustrating!# They had Jonathan Frid kissing on every young, pretty woman. Barnabas never kissed the woman he really loved and who really loved him. From the way things looked between Jonathan and Grayson-the chemistry they seemed to have, both on screen and off, I believe Sam Hall was one smart cookie! He was protecting his marriage. In other words, he knew better than to let Jonathan kiss Grayson, on screen. It might have led to something offscreen.

hollynivy I love Jonathan Frid, Grayson Hall, and Barnabas and Julia, but at the risk of sounding politically incorrect, I think Grayson and every other female was probably safe from anything like that occurring.

jolyonforsythe I believe that Barnabas and the Sweet Young Things was more Dan Curtis's idea than that of any of the writers.

samgracesmom He didn't kiss every young woman. If we are talking characters, Barnabas never locked lips with Vicki, Maggie, or Rachel. And his only kiss with PT1970 Roxanne happened in Julia's dream. Overall, I would say JF wasn't the kissiest of soap leading men.

susanleabartelt You bet. I was very young, but watching the show, now, there was just something about Jonathan Frid's manerisms. He was so charming. I think that he and Grayson were the best of friend both on and off the screen. It grieved me when she died.

susanleabartelt Hollly, I think you are wrong. I think there was another reason Jonathan Frid became a confirmed bachelor and I think his decision was made in the 1960's, or 70's(wink, wink).

nightandday They were friendly during the run of DS, and Jonathan Frid was often at the Hall's home. But they lost touch once the show ended. Sadly, this is often the case with actors. According to her son, the only DS co-star Grayson continued to see was Nancy Barrett. Jonathan did make some less than charitable remarks about Grayson toward the end of his life but as they were a 180 degree turnabout from what he had said before, I simply put them down to old age and failing memory.

susanleabartelt Yes, I do believe that Jonathan Frid became irritable and crotchety in his later years, due mainly to his failing health. The negative comments he made about Grayson Hall were indeed a complete turn about from the things he had said about her in 1968. To quote some of his exact words, " I am very fond of Grayson...we have a lot of fun....she is a ball." I believe the reason they did not hang out, together, and the reason they lost touch after the show ended, was because she had her family and he was a recluse. Grayson Hall and Jonathan Frid had very different personalities. Perhaps that is why they had so much onscreen chemistry( Opposites do attract.). It is also why they did not " hang out." She was a partier( very charismatic) and he was quiet.
