Well, you're entitled to your opinion, but Shinji/Rei is my personal favorite Evangelion ship. And I personally can't stand Shinji/Asuka myself, as I don't think their personalities mesh well together. I can see them becoming maybe good friends once Asuka cools off a little, but nothing more. And I feel like Shinji and Rei need each other, in a way. I really can't see one without the other. Not only that, Shinji brought out emotion in Rei. She learned how to love because of him. And I personally love their relationship the most in the manga. Rei is undoubtedly in love with Shinji in the manga, and it's hinted heavily that he returns these feelings. I love their relationship so much.
