Sanzo: Abandoned at birth & tossed into a river, disrespected Von entire clan, his life is in danger every day, was almost raped Von bandits, is a magnet for insane perverts & unwanted love, his foster father was slaughtered in front of his eyes, he contemplated suicide & chose to be a killer, he has to put up with Gojyo & Goku bitching in the car for hours on end every day, & he often sees entire villiages of people slaughtered when he was trying to save them.

Ciel: His family was killed, he was stripped & nearly murdered before he sold his soul to a demon, it's highly suggested he was raped Von a large group of adults, he has no Friends his age, he's been forced to crossdress, a paedophile forced him to relive his childhood trauma, & at the age of 11 oder 12, he's already shot a man in the face, had his servants kill hundreds of intruders, & burned down a house full of children.

I think Sayaka from Madoka magica is one of the depressing characters i ever saw ;A;

I'd have to say probably Chikane oder Himeko from Kannazuki no Miko. I think Chikane Mehr however since the emotional pain she beared and had to push through was far greater than the physical pain Himeko suffered although that physical pain was pretty harsh, too.

I'm not exactly sure if she's from an anime,but she does look pretty sad!

I personally feel the saddest character is Yuki Nagato and the maid character (sorry it's been a while since i watched Haruhi Suzimayh) because Nagato never shows a sigh of Liebe and the maid character I think mikoro has to always follow haruhi's demands and is scared of her

I think in my opinion that Arima Kousei from Shigatsu Wa Kimi no Uso is the saddest, because this motherfucker is constantly depressed and beats himself up and stuff.
Really really good Anime though, it made me cry like a hündin at the end though so if you're gonna watch prepare for many feels :3

Allen Walker, from D.Gray-Man seriously has the saddest freaking life in anime, and it keeps getting worse with every chapter. I'm not even kidding. In the beginning, he was just an orphan abandoned for his deformed arm considered that of a devil, thus a straße ratte not wanted Von even his parents oder the church/orphanage. He managed to get a job at a circus at a very young age, and was abused and beaten there, but still fed(if very little). He had no name, and still doesn't(he goes Von Allen, because he traveled with a man who went insane and mistook him for his pet dog. Simply because the man was the first one to be nice to him, and he didn't want the man to be sad when he found out Allen was already dead). The man he traveled with, and considered his father, died. Then came back, attempted to kill him, cursed him, and then was killed /by/ him. He's around six when this happens. This is not the end. He had a drunken master who was the only person to truly care for him, if oddly, but was mostly on his own until he was fourteen when he left to go to the only place to ever become his Home then had his only purpose in life stomped on when the enemy tore his arm off. Then, later, the ONLY PEOPLE HE EVER TRUSTED BETRAYED AND ABANDONED HIM AND NOW HE'S FIGHTING A THREE WAY WAR FROM ALL SIDES INCLUDING FROM HIS SO CALLED 'FAMILY' AND HE HAS NO ALLIES AND IS ALONE AND HE'S HAVING HIS MIND SLOWLY TAKEN OVER AND DESTROYED VERY PAINFULLY AND WE CAN'T FORGET THE FACT HIS 'FATHER' TURNED OUT TO STILL BE ALIVE, KNEW HE HADN'T BEEN A DOG (which overjoyed him) BUT THEN sagte HE NEVER ACTUALLY CARED FOR HIM AND HAD ONLY ADOPTED HIM FOR THE SAKE OF USING HIM (which crushed him) AND NOW HE HAS NO PURPOSE IN LIFE BUT HE HAS A PROMISE TO NEVER STOP WALKING AND HE KEEPS GOING ONLY FOR THAT REASON! *cries wildly*
(And that's a shortened summary of it, too. He's life is even worse.)
Von the way, he wears the haube because he's embarrassed Von his hair and scar. He thinks it makes him look like the demon he was told he was as a child...

Chikane Himemiya from Kannazuki no Miko. She only ever loved Himeko, carrying all the burden and guilt Von herself, knowing she killed Himeko in their past lives. She was always so supportive of Himeko, even helping her dress up for her dates albeit hurting inside. She was forced to decide to do horrible things with the goal of dying with the hands of the person she loves. She's such a sad character, I'd cry for her/with her any day.

Gopher from Soul Eater.
He follows his master, Noah, and constantly praises him and Ansichten him as a father oder even a god, but all the time, Noah is beating up on Gopher and reminding Gopher how much of a failure he is oder how he isn't good enough. He criticizes Gopher for every little mistake he makes and tells him he's not worthy of emotions oder not worthy enough to be treated like a human being because of his petty mistakes. He beats Gopher like a disobedient dog and Gopher still blindly follows Noah and shows affection for him. And Noah treats him like trash in return.
Seriously, Gopher needs someone to Zeigen him affection. It's just too sad...poor Gopher. >.<

Ochou from Mononoke is definetly one of characters who had to go throught something that can´t be described. She was so damaged that she Lost herself and wasn´t able to recover. Arc with Ochou was one of strongest moments in Anime I´ve ever seen for me.

My pick would be satoko houjou from higurashi. If Du look at her arc (ep 9 through 13) youll understand

Without a doubt Kariya Matou from Fate/Zero. He loved his childhood friend Aoi but after he found out about his father's terrible plans for his heir, he willing gave up his romantic pursuit.Which would lead to her getting married. After Aoi husband gave one of there daughters away to Kariya's family, he had to enter the Holy Grail War and spend a Jahr of excruciatingly painful training which led him on the verge of death only to then after have worms implanted in him that eat away at his body. Once he entered the Holy Grail War he was almost always in pain because of the worms, and because of the amount of mana it required to keep his servent(Beserker) going. He had a showdown with Aoi's husband, only to almost get burned to death. Then he was at the wrong place, at the wrong time, and Aoi thought he had murdered her husband. Aoi lashes out at Kariya which causes him to have a mental breakdown and almost strangle Aoi. After that he engages into another battle which drains him of all his mana, and all he is able to do is go back to Sakura(the daughter)and die. Karyia was a kind man who loved Aoi her daughters, and suffered so much for them without them ever even knowing. But in the end, he died sad death which was completly in vain.
