It was a happy family of five. Mauri and Kasume Higashi were the proud parents of Filicity, Damien, and Victoria. They were rumored to be the last of their kind, being decendants of prehistoric birds. They lived in a forest at the halfway point between city and country.
Filicity loved music, Damien loved to read, and Victoria sang and drew, but she loved to read as well.
When the couple knew the children were asleep, they began to fight. It was never a small thing that started these fights, always things that Mauri did. One night though, he did something that would start a chain reaction: he killed Kasume with a bullet to the head. The children flinched at the sound of a gunshot.
There was no investigation, since Kasume never really had friends, and she worked on the computer for a living.
The Weiter day, Damien stayed in his room all day, not even coming out to eat. Felicity and Victoria went to check on him, but instead of seeing him there, they saw a trail of blood leading to the open window. Victoria covered her mouth in fear and cried softly. Felicity's eyes shot open, and she shook with terror.
Later that night, Felicity and Victoria were asleep. Felicity's bedroom door creaked open, and standing there was Mauri Higashi, butcherknife in hand.
From Victoria's room, she heard Felicity screaming, and pulled the covers over her head. She heard a Cling as the messer hit Felicity's bedroom floor. She then heard footsteps and knew who it was. He was coming to her room. The door creaked open and he walked in. With bloody hands, he took the blanket off of Victoria, then pulled her hair back. He whispered in her ear, "You're next, my dear. But first, Du must do something for me...pleasent dreams..."
He left with Victoria trembling with fear in her bed. She didn't sleep at all.
The Weiter morning...
"Wake up, Victoria..."Mauri called from the doorway. Victoria slowly sat up."Breakfast is ready.."
Victoria had no appetite. She just had a question.
"Daddy...when am I gonna die...?"she asked in a hoarse voice. Mauri smiled cruelly.
"Soon enough, child. Just not yet. Du should have eaten. Du wouldn't be hungry later..."
He stood, then grabbed Victoria's hair and pulled her outside to the cellar. He threw her in there, then slammed the trapdoor. It was dark in there... And Victoria could hear the rattlesnakes. She felt one slither up her arm, and she sat perfectly still. The snake then did something incredible... It spoke.
"Higassshhhhhiiiii. He treeeeated youuuu crueellyyyyy. We will be your friendssssss if Du don't hurt ussss, but we can't hurt yoouuuu if Du betray ussss."
Victoria nodded."Ok.. I'll be your friend as well."
"Good girrrlll..."
