"Are Du sure Du want to patrol Gotham Von yourself?" asked a very concerned Erica.
I sighed. "How am I ever gonna practice my new moves if Du never let me do anything on my own?"
I heard her laugh on the other line. "You're right. Have fun, but be careful."
I put the phone in the left pocket of my new costume, feeling proud. I had it made based on Batman's costume--black all over, with a few pockets to hold my belongings, but no cape.
I stepped away from the edge of the building, not wanting to fall. Tonight, Gotham was quiet.
Huh. Maybe I don't have to patrol tonight after all. I was about to leap to the Weiter building when a bank alarm thundered through the city.
The Bat Signal shone in the sky, intimidating me.
I grabbed the glider from my leg pocket and spread it open. I flew through the sky, headed for the bank that rang the alarm.
I landed on the ground and ran inside.
"FREEZE!" yelled a man in a blue suit with a helmet, then pointed a gun at me.
I gasped. "Mr. Freeze?"
He smiled. "I expected Batman to be here, but life isn't fair." He hit the trigger, which sent a full blast of ice my way.
I jumped over it, kicking his chest. "Who needs Batman when you've got me? The Nightfury!"
I clapped my hands together and sent him flying to the Wand with my Air. I made the ground shake, making all the robbers trip and fall.
"Ha!" I snorted. I was about to help put the money back in the vault, when Mr. Freeze shot his ice gun at my feet.
I tried jumping, but my feet were glued (or Mehr literally, iced) to the ground.
Mr. Freeze ran for the exit, with the loot slung over his shoulder. "Who's laughing now, ROOKIE!"
Grr... I struggled to get my feet moving, but they wouldn't budge.
I took my glider from my pocket and whacked the little ice mounds, but I was wasting my time.
"Help!" I yelled, feeling stupid.
As if an answer to my call, Mr. Freeze and his minions were forced against a wall, stuck under a net.
A man in a red suit with a quiver over his shoulder spun the ice gun in his hands. "Looks like Du just Lost to a rookie."
Mr. Freeze frowned, but stopped struggling.
A moment later, the police arrived, always too late.
The red-haired man came up to me and kicked the ice. It shattered into a million pieces, making my feet fall asleep.
I brushed myself off. "Umm... thanks."
He smiled. "Don't mention it." He looked at me closely, as if he was examining me.
I sighed. "I'm the Nightfury, the new Avatar."
He raised an eyebrow. "If you're the Avatar, why didn't Du use feuer to melt the ice?"
I looked around, trying to find a way out. "I...gotta go." I ran out of the bank and used my glider to soar to another building.
I shoved the glider into my pocket and sighed. "Phew, that's one conversation I'm glad I avoided."
I turned around, and shrieked.
The red-haired guy was leaning against the door to the hotel building, smirking. "So?"
"That's personal."
He stepped toward me, and held his hand out. "I'm Red Arrow, Green Arrow's ex-partner."
I ignored it. "Ex?"
"I'll tell Du if Du answer MY question."
I sighed. "I wanted Erica to teach me Firebending, but she didn't want to. Megan read her mind and told me that it made Erica depressed that she didn't have her powers anymore."
"Oh" was all he could say.
"Yeah," I said, to make it seem less awkward. I looked into his mask, and wondered what color his eyes were. "Know any Firebenders around here?"
He rubbed his chin, thinking. "I hear there's a Marvel hero named Firestar, who lives somewhere in New York."
I smiled. "Great! Glad I ran into you."
He flashed a set of brilliant white teeth. "And me you."
I blushed, then tapped into the team's communicator. "Batman, Red Tornado, get the portal open, I'm heading to base." I could never get those things to work.
A blue-ish portal appeared in front of me, thanks to Batman.
I looked back at Red Arrow. "I guess I'll see Du around?"
He saluted me. "You could count on it."
I smiled one last time, before entering the portal.
I had a new feeling sprouting from inside me, but I couldn't pinpoint it. But then, I realized.
Was I in Liebe with Red Arrow?
