“I'm so glad Du all could be here. Seeing as this is your last day, we may as well make it short.”
“You're a monster Amber. Du always were!”
Becca cringed at the sound of skin hitting skin. She grinded her teeth together, letting a low growl peep out.
“Amber, Du better NOT have just slapped her,” Becca warned menacingly.
“What can Du do warrior? You're bond just like-”
Amber suddenly cut herself off with a laugh. Becca wished she could close her ears.
“Oh no. This is...this is too good! Devin!”
Amber laughed again as an air of confusion fell into place. Each person waited till the sound of Amber's laugh died away.
“Oh Devin. This brings me so much joy! I can't believe Du did this! The halskette from him was one thing. But this? Not only do I get to see Du die for good, but I also get the joy of playing Du AND marrying your love?”
Amber laughed for a third time. Becca felt a shift in auras.
“Hey Amber? Do all the Fallens look as ugly as you?” Becca interjected.
Laughter stopped and Becca braced for the slap that was sure to come. But it never did.
“Why speak so boldly little warrior? Du of all know the price of this failure.”
“How would Du control our powers?”
“What?”
“Our powers are gifted to us, right? So wouldn't they fall away with us?”
“You speak boldly and truly. Maybe it is best to get rid of Du first.”
“Might I abide Du for one last question?”
“So be it.”
“Why are Du so stupid?”
Pain hit her flesh before she knew what had happened. Tears formed in her covered eyes and she clenched her hands into tight fists.
“You're worthless! Du have no real power! Du were sagte to be destined! But Du are not! Du are a fool, Becca Stevens!”
“I'm also a great distraction.”
Amber turned her head to find Devin gone. She screamed in anger and frustration.
“Where is she?!”
The brackets holding them down unlocked and the visors slid away. Becca rubbed at her wrists and pulled free her escrim sticks. A familiar smirk lit her face.
“So. Who goes down first?”
