Why X-Men Fans Should Be Excited About Colossus In Deadpool 2, According To The Actor
With three shared comic book universes currently making up the world of film production, it feels like superheroes are just about everywhere. And while many critics fear superhero fatigue, where the genre will become so saturated and predictable that they\'ll blend together, there are certain installments that defy expectations for the genre. Chief among them is last year\'s surprise hit Deadpool, which challenged the format and storytelling of superhero movies, while also proving that an R-Rated romp could still make tons of money at the box office. The highly anticipated sequel will no doubt deliver on laughs, but it\'ll also reportedly give one X-Man the respect and screen time he deserves: Colossus.
Actor Stefan Kapicic played Colossus in the first Deadpool film, and recently spoke with THR to tease what\'s coming up in Deadpool 2. The metal mutant will reportedly have an expanded role in the sequel. He said,
He didn\'t have time at all in the X-Men movies, and he\'s one of the iconic characters. He needed that space, and thank God [director] Tim Miller and Ryan and Fox decided to give him a spot, which will continue to grow. That\'s the thing I can say ... the sequel will answer many questions, which people are asking right now. Because all the questions I can see on the net are answered in the sequel.
The man has a point, and it\'s great to know that Colossus will finally get the screen time and respect that he deserves in Deadpool 2. Considering the character\'s wonky history with the original X-Men trilogy, this seems like just desserts.
In the X-Men franchise, Colossus was a tertiary character played by Daniel Cudmore. He made his debut in X-2, as a student at Xavier\'s who helped his fellow mutants escape when Stryker\'s forces arrived to round them up. The role was slightly expanded in X-Men: The Last Stand (aka the biggest stinker in the franchise\'s history) as a full fledged member of the team. And while he was present for all the action sequences, the character got minimal lines and literally no character development.
But the Deadpool films are changing this. Colossus was a scene stealer in the first film, as his no nonsense attitude was a great foil for Deadpool\'s shenanigans and foul mouth. Colossus also repeatedly attempted to recruit Wade Wilson onto the team of mutants, trying to make the fourth wall-breaking psychopath the hero we know he can be. It should be interesting to see how these relationships continue to grow in the highly anticipate sequel, especially when new mutants Cable and Domino join the fray.
