Whether he would have gone this far I don't know, but he seems like a very determined character. When he initially only knows Ariel by her voice he gets somewhat obsessive over the idea of meeting her again, so I imagine if he lived in the ocean and wanted to live on land then he would most likely obsess over that idea too. The only reason I'm a little on the fence is that I'm not sure how proactive he is (because I don't recall him doing very much in the movie to act on his ambition of finding Ariel). That might have been because he didn't know what to do though. If he fell in love with someone on land, and knew that the only way to be with them was to also live on land, then perhaps he would act on that.
