Why is Blood Promise called Blood Promise?

I know that Vampire Academy is called Vampire Academy becasue it's the intro and it's about the school, Frostbite beacuse they are at a ski resort and Shadow KISS because Lissa and Rose find at Rose is shadow-kissed. But does anyone have any ideas about Blood Promise?

Yeah, I thought it was her promise to Dimitri. Maybe it's like it's depper than blood, but I don't think it would be something that cheesy! ^^

Well theres a line at the bottom where it says "Love and Loyalty run deeper than blood" so it might because the promise is really important oder something..
