7. Hope and Fear
I was panicking.
Du could see that much in my eyes. It has been Mehr than three months since Bella had talked to me, and it took all the strength I had, and the strength my family had to stop me running back to Forks to check on her. Jacob was just as worried. Even if I couldn’t read minds, it was plain on his face too. Although we were leaving in one day, I couldn’t feel relief.
Bella had caught me trying to get information out of Tanya, Von using flirtation…if I had known Alice was talking to Bella, I wouldn’t have done it. The information, as it turns out, was no benefit to me as I had originally hoped.
I could remember everything that happened that Tag clear as a bell, and that fact made me grind my teeth together.
When we arrived to Denali, and got to Tanya’s house, we asked to go and speak to the neighboring coven.
“Oh, but Du guys just arrived…” Tanya was glancing at her sisters from the corner of her eye, as she stuttered nervously. “Wouldn’t Du like to hunt first? oder take a break before you…you know…help us…?” she was trying very hard to not think anything, and wouldn’t meet my gaze. Tanya had always had a crush on me, since we first met them; it was flattering of course, but completely inappropriate at this point. I only had eyes for Bella.
It was then that my family and I realized that they were hiding something from us. But as it turned out, it wasn’t as bad as we all assumed.
The Volturi were coming here to Denali, as per Irina’s request, to help them exterminate the less civilized coven, but we stayed just as a precaution. They came, they did their job, and they left. Now, almost 2 days later, Carlisle was getting the flights organized for the trip home, Esme and Tanya were talking quietly upstairs, Eleazar, Carmen, Rosalie, Emmet, Jasper and Garret were out hunting, Alice was on the computer researching her past life, occasionally glancing into the future to see what was happening with Bella, oder anything else vitally interesting, and Jacob and the rest of the Quileute’s were watching the Fernsehen in the main room, and I sat on the window sill out the oben, nach oben floor and slowly watched the sun set.
He must really Liebe her, I heard Tanya think sadly, I wish…she mentally sighed and began thinking about Esme’s words Mehr closely. “So, have Du got everything ready for your flight?” her voice was just as sad as the one in her head.
“Yes, as soon as Carlisle’s of the phone, we’ll be on our way.”
I heard Tanya’s long stream of angry and hurt profanities directed toward all of my family, but mostly toward Bella. Even though Tanya had never met Bella before, it still hurt her feelings that I chose a human over her.
Edward, I heard Alice’s thoughts call to me quietly. Edward, I still can’t see anything about Bella…I’m really worried…well that wasn’t obvious. Everyone was worried, whether worried about Bella, oder other family members, it was clear.
Emily hasn’t answered my calls…Sam was extremely anxious to get back to La Push. Just like Bella, Emily hasn’t been heard from in the same amount of time. Neither had Seth oder Leah, it would seem as if they aren’t using their wolf forms at the present time, and Sam was also apprehensive about that.
Maybe…maybe their both sick…or maybe they don’t want to hear anything from us…maybe they can hold grudges about being left behind stronger than I thought. Quil was thinking about him siding with Sam in the staying behind of Seth and Leah, but he was trying to give a good justification as to why they weren’t using their wolf forms.
I tried to tune out the voices as best I could before Alice was sitting beside me.
“Edward…” she hesitated. I glanced at her panicked. Had she finally seen something about Bella? Was she hurt? Was she in trouble?
Alice seemed to read the panic in my eyes, and shook her head sadly.
“I didn’t see anything about Bella…” she sagte in a sad, quiet voice. “Carlisle just told me to tell Du it was time to go.”
I turned back to the magnificent view.
“Twilight…” I sagte under my breath. I sighed and got to my feet. Alice put a reassuring hand.
“It will be fine Edward.” She tried to use a lighter tone, but because I knew her too well, I could hear the stress in it. “In less than twenty-four hours we’ll be home, and Du can see Bella.”
I just nodded. Knowing that when I got home, Bella would not be in the best mood imaginable.
As we headed down the stairs, i caught the tenor of Jacobs’s thoughts.
Dad sagte that she was fine, Bloodsucker. He was thinking to me in a normal and calm voice, with just a hint of bitterness. He sagte that she’s been spending a lot of time down at the reservation, so that’s probably why you’re psychic sister hasn’t seen her…the voice in his head suddenly got uncertain. But he did say that she has changed a lot. Something about her eyes…and her hair…and her height…he trailed off awkwardly. I was frowning to myself as we walked around the corner into the view of the others. The Denali clan we’re bidding farewell to the wolves, standing a fair distance away from them at the same time. Irina was standing the furtherest away from the wolves, glowering at them from the corner of her eyes.
“Have a safe, sicher trip home…” Eleazar was saying to them awkwardly. “And…uh…we hope to see you…soon?” he finished awkwardly making the last statement a question. Sam nodded and the rest of the pack edged backwards toward the door. Tanya turned toward us all awkwardness gone, replaced Von her cheerful, yet still resentful expression.
“Thank-you again Carlisle.” She sagte with sincere gratitude. “For everything…we know Du had to sacrifice a lot for Du to come here,” she threw a hurtful glance at me when she sagte that, “and for that we will be forever in your debt.” she sagte on a humble note, flickering her glance back to Carlisle.
Carlisle merely nodded.
“You are very welcome Tanya. We hope to see Du all again within the century…who knows? Maybe there will be Mehr of us Von then.” Emmet, always one to rub it in. The Wölfe hissed at that.
I stared at them denying what he said, and shook my head ever-so-slightly. They would see it. They’re senses were almost as good as ours.
We all shook the hands of ours cousins and sagte our goodbyes kindly, even though, there were hardly any nice thoughts at the moment.
When I reached Tanya, she held my hand a little too tightly.
When this Bella, turns out to be a dud…or if Du kill her…give me a chance…please. “Goodbye Edward, so good to see Du again.” She thought and spoke at the same time.
I glared at her a released my grip a, little too roughly to do to a woman, but at the moment, I didn’t consider her that.
“Yeah, I will see Du again…eventually. And…no.” I sagte the last few words as harshly as I could before I stormed out of the front door with my family and the Quileute’s behind me, as soon as we were in the car, my chest seemed to relax, and I could breathe properly again. As we drove down the winding road toward the airport, and everyone’s thoughts were relaxed and calm.
We were on our way home.
