As Edward sagte it wouldn't have been long before he broke down and came to bellas window begging for her to take him back.

he would totally have come back because he loves bella with all his heart. he thought he was doing the right thing but it was killing him to be away from her. obviously she wouldnt have had to save his life but he would have come back because he cant survive without her. team edward all the way :)

I think Edward would've have came back to check on her without letting her know he was there.. (ex.- like when he was following her around port angeles and only interferred when he knew she was in danger) But i think if he would have seen her happy he wouldn't of came back but if he saw her depressed as he was he would've
