Kate's power is not physical. Her power works like Jane's. She is not actually running an electric current over her body. She is just creating that illusion in your head and it gives Du a VERY powerful shock, enough to incapacitate a vampire.

But in the book pg. 598, "Heavens knows i've been working on it for centuries and the best I can do is run a current over my skin." p. 600 "It used to be just in my palms, ...I can radiate the current all over my body". From what Kate says, her power sound physical

It could be that it works like Aro's and has to have physical contact and she projects it so that it doesn't matter where Du touch her Du still get the illusion.

I think it's mentioned somewhere in Breaking Dawn that it does work from her mind. I'll try and find it. But right now I agree with alice_cullen21

idk if i am right because i was just as questionable as Du but have Du ever considered that Kate's power is similar to Janes, that it only makes the mind think that it's in pain? now idk if it is right but thats wat i considered.

IT works because what kate dose is create the illusion of shock, so when she shocks someone it's really all in there head.
