‘Vampire Diaries’ EP Caroline Dries Reveals New Details On Alaric’s ‘Tragic’ Arc

Things are not looking up for Alaric. Jo may be back, but she’s not herself. ‘TVD’ EP Caroline Dries previews that the next few episodes for Alaric are going to be both ‘tragic’ and very ‘interesting.’

Can’t Alaric (Matthew Davis) just catch a break? The guy lost his wife and his children, but now his wife’s back — sort of. Alaric and Jo (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) have been reunited, but there’s trouble brewing.

executive producer Caroline Dries teases that Alaric’s arc is going to continue to be “tragic.” Grab the bourbon.

Bonnie (Kat Graham) brought Jo back with the Phoenix Stone, but Jo’s not exactly Jo. Her life is totally different now, and Jo’s going to have to adapt or else.

“The mystery for the next episodes will be how Faux-Jo can integrate into the world that we’ve created in Mystic Falls and at Whitmore,” Caroline told HollywoodLife.com and a group of reports. “It’s the story we’ve dealt with in the writers room of how do you handle someone who looks exactly like your dead wife but isn’t? It became this question. A lot of writers had different takes on it. Some of them were like, they should fall in love, and some people were like no gross! That undermines the actual character of Jo.”

Don’t expect things to go well for Alaric. The teacher’s sad story is going to continue. “I think it will play out in an interesting and tragic and also bittersweet kind of way for Alaric,” Caroline said.

As we’ve seen in the flash-forward, Alaric has twin girls, so some good has come out the darkness. Is Jo the mother? After all, Jo and Kai were twins. Let’s just hope that Alaric gets a girl that doesn’t die on him.
