Posting this one on the US version is most likely going to get the bigger US vote, lol.
I just feel worse and worse for the people around them. Important note, when this happens, it isn't even funny; it feels like somebody took my heart, and dropped it into a bucket of boiling tears. And, at the same time, somebody else is hitting my soul in the crotch with a frozen sledgehammer. And then, a third guy walks in and starts punching me in the grief bone.
for me, watching the office U.K. is like that
And although I adore Michael, I think David Brent is better. Ricky Gervais is just a genius. He is SO annoying but that's part of the reason why its funny! What's made the US show so good is they've made Jim and Pam's roles a lot bigger and they're such a huge part of the US show.
And in the UK show its more about David because he's just better. You have to admit you get sick of Michael after a while and you just want to go back to Jim and Pam. David is so interesting and embarrassing and hilarious. I have the first season DVD which is only 6 episodes and I can watch it over and over again because he is just so amazing!
Having said that I think Michael's way sweeter and he's more like a kid in a 45 year-old's body. Which makes him way more likeable so I see where everyone's coming from.
Sorry when there are so many people against a show I love I have a tendency to want to defend it.
however, the UK version is outstanding, hysterical, captivating, etc etc and youre an IDIOT if you dont think the UK version is one of the greatest and most important shows in television history.
The American version is typically American, and yeah that type of humour can be funny (I love many American shows)
But the idea of the office is that it's subtle humour, which many of you don't seem to pick up on.
The person who said they're not a fan of british accents? How would you feel if I said I wasn't a fan of american ones? I'm sure they'd all switch their accents if they knew they were annoying you, I'm sure they don't know that their british accents offend. I'll promptly change my accent to suit the US. shall I?
Sorry, I'm sounding rude. I really don't mean to, But anyway, there are several different british accents!
At least in british shows we dont all have butlers and talk in a very snobby way like british characters in american shows.
The UK version is so much better, on so many levels that I can't be bothered to explain further.

but i just prefer the US one,
i guess i don't have the 'british sense of humour' or something?
because when i watch our version, well actually, i can't watch it, without wanting to cry, and i realise that's half the point, but i don't like feeling like that lol.
whereas, as soon as i'd starting watching your version, i thought i was going to faint from laughing too much... i do like feeling like that lol
- i just realised how many times i used the word "as" lol
but i don't like the way that everyone on here is just completely gunning down everyone else.
ricky gervais and steve merchant produce both the programmes.
and they each to your own taste.
and also, the US office is obviously going to get more votes on the US office spot lol
The storylines in the US version have me hooked. I think the producers have done an amazing job at using office politics to affect the relationships between the characters. And it's not often you can have a show with a cast of 15+ and find yourself wishing that everyone could get more screen-time.
The reason the characters are more developed is because it's a longer show. Plus, they're general office people, everyday guys. You're not supposed to relate to any of them but Tim and Dawn, who you empathise with.

When people get nasty on here it makes me laugh sooo much!
Crooked teeth and tea and crumpets? How could you stereotype so much? When does anyone on the Office eat crumpets, eh? And how many have bad teeth?
I'm British and I have perfectly straight teeth and haven't had a crumpet in forever. You wouldn't like it if I said all Americans were fat and stupid, would you?
I wouldn't say that, because I don't stereotype. :)
oh, and if American TV is better than English (Which I don't think it is), then why did they bother to steal our shows?
When do the British make versions of your shows?
Even if US TV was better, who cares? Not all life is about TV.

please shut up, you really are making a fool out of yourself and you can call Americans fat and stupid as much as you want because we are, but you don't see us denying it. we accept our imperfections and frankly, the english should too. (nasty-ass, yellow, crooked teeth)
I am an American ex-pat.
And oh yeah... I have no teeth.
Now, there's absolutely no even considering contesting the fact that...
Ricky Gervais is brilliant
and hilarious. And the uk version was brilliant of course, but the us version is better because it is able to continue its brilliance and maintain longevity. Uk couldn't keep up the humour and lost it all in only the second season. It ended up making weak jokes and sacrificing all the subtlety that made it so fantastic. The US version was more 'mainstream' but at least it could continue the hilarity after 3 seasons... and come out strong in the 4th.
Also Jim is better than Tim, and I'll tell you why. Because, while I love Martin Freeman far more than John Krasinski, Krasinski's character has a little more class to his humour than Tim's shouting 'cock' at gareth.
And of course, everyone loves a show more if the will-they?/wont-they? ends with the couple together!
The UK version did it's thing and then stopped, 2 series and a 2 part christmas special. And I love the series all the more for it. They quit while they were ahead. And I'm not saying the US version is dull because it isn't, by making more of them the US version has become more sitcom like but at the same time has developed it a lot more. That's fine, it's great, it's funny. But with that comes the danger of taking it too far.
They'll always try and get one more season out of it whether or not it needs one more season. Gervais had the good grace to step down, but will NBC?
but at this point, even gervais agrees, the us version has surpassed it..
i watched the entire UK version before i even knew there *was* an American version, and i loved it. Ricky Gervais really is a genius. the style of humour is certainly very different, and it's understandable why a lot of Americans don't find it as funny. American television relies on obvious, slapstick humour whereas the British have always been about subtlety and dry wit.
the writers on both shows are brilliant, and it's really hard to choose between the two (for those of us who don't have any trouble understanding British accents). i had to go with the American version simply because of its sustainability. The Office UK worked for a couple of seasons, but i don't know if they could have kept it going; whereas the Office US still has plenty of workability left.
But I agree, the US version has expanded and developed the characters more. It's not just focused on the four main characters.
i dont get british humor
and the characters in the us version, you can relate to them better, and you can actually do nmore than hate them!
I do feel thast the UK version has much more intelligent humour and is more real, but that makes it so difficult to watch.
There's less of a feel-good factor and some of the things that happen are SO well written but can also be horribly depressing or cringeworthy.
I thought I'd hate the US version- I expected it to be all fake tan and fake smiles, but instead I loved it. Dwight is fantastic (not to mention hilarious), Jim is adorable and I'm seriously fascinated by Creed.
So although I think the UK version is better written and realistic, the US one is more enjoyable, and I suppose that's what counts.
hey but isn't that one dude from the british office the same guy who keeps losing his eye in Pirates of the Carribean? the guy middle left on the front row? I think it's him.
My least favorite is how everyone seems to get sex toys for their birthday. What is that about?
I've seen both. They're BOTH good. But the fact that the UK one was the original doesn't mean anything.
They are an unbeatable all-star cast.
I just find the Brit one a little more relatable and Ricky Gervais is just immense.
It's just so excruciatingly cringey and you just feel so embarrassed for the guy, which I just adore. I don't get that with the US one. But thats just opinion and I do love them both.
I think it's also possiby the fact that I saw the Brit one first and therefore feel eternally loyal towards it.
