Dan went quiet.

"Ops, sorry," Amy and Dan's mom and dad died when they were really

small.

I could start at any point in my short miserable life to prove it, but things

really started going bad last May, when our sixth-grade class took a field

trip to Manhattan____ twenty-eight mental-case kids and two teachers on a

yellow school bus, heading to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to look at

ancient Greek and Roman stuff.

"That must be torture," groaned Dan

I know_____it sounds like torture. Most Yancy field trips were.

"I am so smart, I am the smart part," singed Dan

"You are so annoying, can you cut it?" demanded Amy

"No, because I am smart,"

"What a weird brother," murmured Amy

"I heard that!"

"Ah, never mind,"

But, Mr. Brunner, our Latin teacher, was leading this trip, so I had

hopes.

Dan mouth dropped open, and said"What is good about him?"

Mr. Brunner was this middle-aged guy in a motorized wheel chair. He

had thinning hair and a scruffy beard and a frayed tweed jacket, which

always smell like coffee. You wouldn't think he'd be cool, but he told

stories and jokes and let us play games in class. He also had this awesome

collection of Roman armor and weapons, so he was the only teacher whose

class didn't put me to sleep.

"Ha! Now you are not smart any more,"smirked Amy

"I will love to have Mr. Brunner as my teacher!"

"Remember, this is fiction,"

"Alright,"grumbled Dan

"So are you going to start collecting weapons?"(Dan is a collector. He has a collection of stuff.)

"Yeah,"

"And get in trouble by the police?"Amy smiled

"No, there's no way you can do that,"

Amy rolled her eyes and said"I can call the police right now, dweeb,"

I wasn't aiming for the school bus, but of course I got expelled anyway.

All the way to the city, I put up with Nancy Bobofit, the freckly, redheaded kleptomaniac girl,

hitting my best friend Grover in the back of the head with chunks of peanut butter-and-ketchup

sandwich.
