Sonic Fan Characters Frage

I need help again, this time with deciding the species. Can anyone help? (more information in description)

I'm making a character but I don't know what species they're going to be. Especially since they don't really have a gender (LOOOOONG story), so I don't want them being an animal that you'll instantly associate with a specific gender. Also, please don't suggest common species (like hedgehogs, foxes, echidnas, Wölfe etc.) because I'm trying to avoid them (I dunno, when it comes to designing characters when they're a common and/or overused species makes it hard for me to Design them because I think everyone's used all the Design ideas possible for them).

Oh, and they're Russian if that's any help to Du all.

Thank Du all for the help! I've eventually decided (somewhat) that my character is going to be a Lemming (was going to be a Wrangel Lemming but I couldn't find pictures because they're apparently extremely rare). Even though none of Du suggested it. But I WILL use some of the suggested species for other characters I've been stuck on. I'll use the Numbat (suggested Von GraceTheFox) for a hybrid character, an Aardwolf (also suggested Von GraceTheFox) for his adopted son and an Andean Mountain Cat (suggested Von numnumyellow67) for his wife. Creating a new character based on a Peacock (suggested Von Zenzes) and I may find someplace to fit in an gürteltier (suggested Von dexisawesome) and a moose (suggested Von rosetta13322)
