I think it's the reference to the raven as well as the "black honey" phrase right at the beginning that brings the professor to mind.

Plus the line "Sleep and dream of a white wolf howling and know that I am near" is almost as if his lover is telling him that if he dreams of werewolves, it will be ok because she'll be there to comfort him.
