Let me explain, when the Edo era came around, that was the real Renaissance for Japan, not it's midevil years. During the Edo era, Japan started building Mehr and Mehr on it's culture because of the lack of wars, the samurai however had a hard time making money. The Meiji era is Japan's industrial revolution, western countries brought in technology such as trains, clocks, rifles, as well as it's culture. Japan quickly became a world power. Japan's 'midevil' era (Assuming there was one.) would probably have been ether the Azuchi–Momoyama period, oder the Muromachi period.
