William and Kate have made a very concerted effort to maintain their privacy, recently scripting a stern letter directed at the press, calling for paparazzi to refrain from using extreme tactics to snare pictures of young George and Charlotte. And now they will no longer have to worry about any overhead visitors, as the U.K. government has ruled that the air space above their Anmer Hall country-house residence—where the couple spend a large amount of their time—is going to be deemed a no-fly zone.
“The Secretary of State has decided that it is necessary in the public interest to restrict flying in the vicinity of Anmer Hall, Norfolk, having regard to the security considerations associated with this location by reason of it being the residence of members of the Royal Family,” the order reads. Specifically, planes will not be allowed to get within 2,000 feet, vertically, from the house, for a radius of 1.5 nautical miles (get those protractors out to estimate where the analogous no-fly zone would exist above your desk, to scale, if your cubicle were Anmer Hall).
This is not atypical for royal residences, as there is a no-fly order in effect above Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham House, as well as above Highgrove House where Prince Charles lives. (So maybe the surprising thing here is that there wasn’t already a no-fly zone in place above Anmer Hall before now?)
There was no further comment from the government agency or William and Kate, per
