The episode begins out with Ash, Brock, and Misty walking through Dark City. A little boy is seen running out of a nearby house until his mother tells him to stay inside (the reason is because the two gyms have an ongoing rivalry and the only way for them to settle this rivalry is to have a straße battle). Three young boys suddenly toss pebbles at Ash, Brock, and Misty. Out of frustration, Pikachu shocks them in self defense.
