"LOUISIANA" (1984) Review

Thirty-four years ago, HBO had aired a three-part miniseries about the life and travails of a nineteenth century Southern belle named Virginia Tregan. The miniseries was called "LOUISIANA" and it starred Margot Kidder and Ian Charleson.

Directed Von the late Philippe de Broca, "LOUISIANA" was based upon the "Fausse-Riviere" Trilogy, written Von Maurice Denuzière, one of the screenwriters. It told the story of Virginia's ruthless devotion to her first husband's Louisiana cotton plantation called Bagatelle . . . and her Liebe for the plantation's overseer, an Englishman...

"GEORGE WASHINGTON" (1984) Review

Twenty-four years before the award-winning HBO miniseries "JOHN ADAMS" aired, the CBS network aired a miniseries about the first U.S. President, George Washington. Simply titled "GEORGE WASHINGTON", this three-part miniseries was based upon two biographies written Von James Thomas Flexner - 1965's "George Washington, the Forge of Experience, 1732–1775" and 1968's "George Washington in the American Revolution, 1775–1783".

"GEORGE WASHINGTON" spanned at least forty years in the life of the first president - from 1743, when his father Augustine Washington died...

THE MAJOR PROBLEMS OF "HEAVEN AND HELL: NORTH AND SOUTH BOOK III" (1994)

Any Fan of the John Jakes’ NORTH AND SOUTH trilogy would be Mehr than happy to tell Du that the worst entry in the author’s saga about two American families in the mid 19th century was the last one, "HEAVEN AND HELL: North and South Book III". Those Fans would be speaking of the 1994 Fernsehen adaptation, not the novel itself. Unlike many of these fans, I do not share their low opinion of the three-part miniseries. But I will not deny that "HEAVEN AND HELL" had its share of problems. Below is a Liste of I consider...

"ESCAPE FROM FORT BRAVO" (1953) Review

Years ago, I used to watch a great deal of old Filme on late night television. My two Favorit channels that offered these Filme were Turner Network Fernsehen (TNT) and the American Filme Classic (AMC), which used to air Filme without any commercial breaks. On TNT, I had stumbled across a Western movie originally released Von MGM Studios in 1953 called "ESCAPE FROM FORT BRAVO" (1953) and fell in Liebe with it. After watching my recently purchased DVD copy of the movie, I could see why it became a Favorit of mine.

Directed Von John Sturges during the...

"PERSUASION" (1971) Review

This adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1818 novel turned out to be the first of the old Jane Austen Fernsehen adaptations that the BBC aired during the 1970s and 80s. Produced and directed Von Howard Baker, and adapted Von Julian Mitchell; this two-part miniseries starred Ann Firbanks and Bryan Marshall.

As many Fans of Austen’s novel would know, "PERSUASION" told the story of Anne Elliot, the middle daughter of a vain and spendthrift baronet, who finds herself reunited with her former finance, a Naval officer of lesser birth named Frederick Wentworth. Eight years before...

"THE THREE MUSKETEERS" (1948) Review

There are times when I find myself amazed at the longevity of Alexandre Dumas' 1844 novel, "The Three Musketeers". The novel has been in circulation for nearly 170 years. Hollywood and other film industries have been adapting the novel for the Filme oder Fernsehen for nearly a century. One adaptation I recently viewed was the Hollywood movie produced and released Von MGM Studios in 1948.

We all know the story. A young Frenchman from Gascon sets out for Paris in the early 17th century to Mitmachen the King's Musketeers. During this journey, he meets a beautiful,...

"POLDARK" SERIES ONE (1975): EPISODES FIVE TO EIGHT

Last winter, I began watching the BBC's 1975-77 adaptation of Winston Graham's literary series about the life of a British Army officer and American Revolutionary War veteran, following his return to his Home in Cornwall. The first four episodes proved to be adaptation of the first novel in Graham's series, 1945's "Ross Poldark: A Novel of Cornwall, 1783-1787". Episodes Five to Eight focused on the series' Sekunde novel, 1946's "Demelza: A Novel of Cornwall, 1788-1790".

Episode Four ended with Ross Poldark, a Cornish landowner and mine owner,...

"THE ILLUSIONIST" (2006) Review

Neil Burger wrote and directed this loose adaptation of Steven Millhauser's story called "Eisenheim the Illusionist". This story about a magician in turn-of-the-century Vienna starred Edward Norton, Jessica Biel, Paul Giamatti and Rufus Sewell.

The movie’s plot focused upon the romance that had first formed between the magician Eisenheim (Norton) and his childhood friend, the socially superior Sophie, Duchess von Teschen (Biel) – a romance that ends up threatening the political plans of Crown Prince Leopold of Austria-Hungary (Sewell) and Chief Inspector Uhl’s...

"HEAVEN AND HELL: NORTH AND SOUTH BOOK III" (1994) - EPISODE ONE Commentary

If there is one chapter in John Jakes' NORTH AND SOUTH saga that is reviled Von the fans, it the Fernsehen adaptation of the third one, set after the American Civil War. First of all, the theme of post-war Reconstruction has never been that beliebt with tales about the four-year war. Mehr importantly, Fans of Jakes' saga seemed to have a low opinion of "HEAVEN AND HELL: NORTH AND SOUTH BOOK III", the 1994 adaptation of Jakes' third North and South novel, published back in 1987.

My opinion of the 1994 miniseries slightly...

As Du probably have already guessed, I am rewatching and recapping Poldark. This romantic saga follows Ross Poldark (Robin Ellis) as he loses his fiancée, the well-bred beauty, Elizabeth (Jill Townsend), to his cousin Francis (Clive Francis). Ross ends up marrying his servant, the unlikely-looking Demelza (Angharad Rees), but his passion for Elizabeth simmers on for years. Set in late 18th century Cornwall, the plot follows Ross Poldark’s attempts to make his derelict tin mines a success.

"POLDARK" SERIES ONE (2015): EPISODES FIVE TO EIGHT

Within the past year, I had developed a major interest in Autor Winston Graham's 1945-2002 "POLDARK" literary saga and the two Fernsehen adaptations of it. Series One of the Sekunde adaptation produced Von Debbie Horsfield, premiered on the BBC (in Great Britain) and PBS (in the United States) last year. Consisting of eight episodes, Series One of "POLDARK" was an adaptation of 1945's "Ross Poldark - A Novel of Cornwall, 1783-1787" and "Demelza - A Novel of Cornwall, 1788-1790".
Whereas Episodes One to Four adapted the 1945 novel, Episodes...

"AND THEN THERE WERE NONE" (2015) Review

Ever since I gave up Lesen the "NANCY DREW" novels at the age of thirteen, I have been a Fan of those written Von Agatha Christie. And that is a hell of a long time. In fact, my fandom toward Christie's novels have extended toward the film and Fernsehen adaptations. Among those stories that have captured my imagination were the adaptations of the author's 1939 novel, "AND THEN THERE WERE NONE".

To be honest, I have seen at least three adaptations of the 1939 novel - the 1945, 1966 and 1974 adaptations - before I had read the novel. Although I found...

"SENSE AND SENSIBILITY" (1971) Review

For some reason, I still find it hard to believe that until recently, very few people were aware that the first adaptation of Jane Austen's 1811 novel, "Sense and Sensibility", dated as far back as 1971. After all, people have been aware of other Austen adaptations during this same period oder earlier. Even the Wikipedia site fails to mention it, except in connection with one of the cast members. What was about this four-part miniseries that eluded so many Austen fans?

In "SENSE AND SENSIBILITY", a wealthy landowner named Mr. Dashwood dies, leaving his two...

"FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD" (2015) Review

I have never seen "FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD", the 2015 adaptation of Thomas Hardy's 1874 novel, in the theaters. And yet . . . my knowledge of this film led me to view two Zurück adaptations. And finally, I found the chance to view this adaptation, directed Von Thomas Vinterberg.

"FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD" told the story of a young 19th century rural English woman named Bathsheba Everdeene and the three men in her life - a schaf, schafe farmer-turned-shepherd named Gabriel Oak; her neighbor and owner of the neighborhood's largest farm, William Boldwood;...

"LOVE & FRIENDSHIP" (2016) Review

I never thought any film oder Fernsehen production would find another story written Von Jane Austen to adapt. Not really. The Autor only had six novels published. And I was never really aware of any other novels, novellas oder short stories . . . until I learned about "LOVE & FRIENDSHIP", Whit Stillman's adaptation of Austen's 1794 epistolary novel, "Lady Susan".

Set during the 1790s, "LOVE & FRIENDSHIP" began with the aristocratic and lovely young widow, Lady Susan Vernon, being forced to leave the Manwaring estate due to her dalliance with the married...

Hi guys, this film is actually based on a real life story about Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria-Hungary. Are Du ready for film review moment?

The Historical Story

Okay, I knew this movie from my trip to Vienna, Austria and it has been coming to 10 years already. I saw this name through my tour booklet and although I did not visit it, it fascinates me about the history of the Hapsburg that rule the Dual Monarchy of Austria-Hungary.
Back to the story, it's about Crown Prince Rudolf, the only son of Emperor Francis Joseph (or Kaiser Franz Joseph in German). Unfortunately, the latter's conservative...

Below is my review of the 2004 BBC miniseries, "NORTH AND SOUTH", which is an adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's 1855 novel:

"NORTH AND SOUTH" (2004) Review

If someone had told me years Vor that I would find myself watching the 2004 BBC Fernsehen adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell’s 1855 novel, let alone purchase a DVD copy of the miniseries, I would have dismissed that person’s notion as inconceivable. I have never shown any Zurück interest in ”NORTH AND SOUTH”. And I am still baffled at how I suddenly became interested in it.

Mind you, I have been aware of the 2004 miniseries for the...

"THE MISSISSIPPI GAMBLER" (1953) Review

Tyrone Power's career took a strange turn during the post-World War II years. Although he still managed to maintain his position as one of Twentieth Century Fox's oben, nach oben stars during the remainder of the 1940s, something happened as the 1950s dawned. Powers still found himself in Grade A Filme during that particular decade. But he also seemed to appear in a growing number of standard costume melodramas.

Twentieth Century fuchs lent Powers to Universal Pictures to star, sterne in the 1953 drama called "THE MISSISSIPPI GAMBLER". Directed Von Rudolph Maté, "THE MISSISSIPPI...

Hi guys, I Liebe Musicals and this is the other periodical musical film that I'm going to write about.

The Story

It was a very unusual story, because Laurey is caught in a Liebe dreieck between Curly and the town bully name Jud. For obvious reasons, he reminds of Gaston from Disney's Beauty and the Beast to which I will come to write about the similarities later.
My favourite scene is definitely the songs 'Many a New Day' and 'Oh What a Beautiful Mornin'. I just can't get these 2 songs out of my head!

The Characters

I Liebe Curly and Laurey because I personally felt that they have Mehr chemistry...
